Chapter 188: The Nest… Part-3.
‘There it is… took a while to find it, afterall the map is bigger now…’
A massive, dark and seemingly bottomless pit was right in front of Jareth at this moment.
If it was still in the game, it would have barely taken about ten minutes to reach this place but now it took Jareth several hours to get here despite having enhanced speed along with his strong body.
He could have reached here faster, but there were several hordes of those lesser demon creating mutants blocking his path.
He had no choice but to deal with them as he couldn’t take a detour to avoid them.
If he lost his path just to avoid those weak enemies, then all his efforts would have been in vain.
‘Ah, there’s the ‘fake’ lift calling pillar…’
Jareth glanced at the giant stone pillar located nearby which had a round indentation in it and several mysterious carvings were visible on it.
It was shining with a greenish glow brightly from time to time as it was made from a very rare type of glowing stone that shines in darker areas.
Looking at the pillar, Jareth couldn’t help but remember the prank that the develpers played on all the players who came to this place.
In the game, when you first arrive at this place you are bound to notice this pillar.
It gives you hint that you would need to find a circular medallion to make it functional and then summon the Cloud Step Lift using it.
Your player character will not jump in the pit and an invisible barrier will keep you at a hair’s distance from jumping down.
(It’s that barrier that blocks your path when you reach the edge of the game map or try to access places that are still locked…)
Once you get the clues, you will have to search through the entire vast barren land to find that medallion.
And as it turns out, the medallion is divided into three different pieces and each piece is located behind a mini-boss fight.
You need to go and conquer the three mini-bosses located in the west, south and north edge of the vast barren lands.
Then after collecting all three pieces of the medallion you will need to make your way back to the eastern edge where this massive pit is located.
Not only finding the locations of these three bosses is a very tedious task, it’s very difficult to beat them too.
The whole barren land is shrouded in dark fog and it’s difficult to determine the directions which makes it very difficult to navigate and makes it easier to lose your way for a long time.
There’s no minimap function in this game to guide your path so don’t even bother thinking about relying on it.
And even if you make it to the boss monsters, each of them is strong and has unique abilities.
It will take several deaths and retries to even get used to their various movement patterns.
After you collect all the parts of the medallions and put them in the pillar, you would expect your efforts to have paid off right?
But that’s where the prank of the game developers comes into play.
The medallion turns out to be completely useless as the lift never comes up because it’s already been broken since long ago!
There was chance of you boarding the lift from the very begining! So there was literally no point in collecting those medallions!
They are literal useless garbage taken extra space in your inventory!
And the most infuriating part is that the ‘Barrier’ that was blocking your character to jump inside the pit before collecting the medallions, now gets deactivated.
You can now just jump inside without any problems and your character will sustain literally ‘Zero’ damage as the place underneath is flooded with water!

In other words, you could have entirely skipped those infuriatingly hard boss fights and that time that was wasted on finding the location of the bosses could have been saved too.
But no! The developers had to make it this way so that the player’s efforts would go to complete waste just because of that impenetrable barrier!
If there was no boundary barrier locking the pit before collecting the medallions, the player could have just directly jumped in the pit and all those grueling hours of wandering in hell could have been skipped directly.
This prank from the developers was so brutal that the players were raging all over the internet and countless abusive words were thrown at the Developers.
And the developers never fixed this prank at all even after all this.
Even after getting so much hate they never fixed this so as to make more players suffer from this.
‘Sometimes I wonder if the people who made this game were hardcore ‘Sadists’ or something like that…’
This event made the game popular over the internet as the ‘Game of Masoch*sts’.
Only those who had no jobs, no life and liked to torture themselves with completely unfair game conditions liked to fully complete this game.
This bad reputation of the game was one of the reasons why Jareth also quit this game later on as he didn’t want to be caught playing it by his friends from school.
Afterall, he didn’t want to get called a ‘Masoch*st’ by his own friends.
‘Thankfully I know about this place beforehand, otherwise even I would have been deceived by this fake pillar…’
Jareth directly punched the pillar and broke it into pieces.
That did relieve a lot of frustrations from the past.
[Basic Magic: Float!]
Jareth cast his float magic and flew down into the pit, there was no barriers stopping him as this is reality and not a game so he could go ‘out of bounds’ easily without any problems.
Jareth was pressed on time, so he didn’t bother going to collect those medallion fragments as they were completely useless.
And as for those three mini-bosses… they are completely irrelevant to the main plot, Jareth didn’t even bother fighting them as they won’t give him any good loot or even Credit points.
[Basic Magic: Gloating Mana Orb!]
Although it couldn’t provide much brightness in this place where dark fog shrouds everything, it surely could help Jareth reflect the water below once he reaches it.
After flying down for a few minutes in the pit, Jareth finally reached the bottom where the water had floodded everything.
As the water was quite clear, Jareth could even see the massive broken lift at the bottom submerged by the water.
‘To think developers tricked people into thinking that collecting those medallions will help bring this broken lift back to work again… truly laughable…’
Jareth shook his head and glanced around to look and sure enough, there was a small crack in one of the walls.
*Boom!*
Jareth floated towards the crack and punched it lightly, directly breaking a hole in the wall which revealed a hidden corridor behind.
He floated inside and landed on the floor made out of the same rare glowing stone that was used to make that lift calling pillar above.
Even though the place was located so deep underground, it was still dimly lit due to the brightness of the glowing stone floor.
And it was just enough that Jareth could see the amazing ancient desings and inscription on the walls and the floor.
He poured more mana in the glowing orb and used it to illuminate the area even more, which helped him see the inspcriptions more easily.
There were pictures of the once glorious underground city inscribed on the walls of the corridor.
Jareth walked further and saw even more inscription on the walls.
‘These must have been one of the greatest arts of their time…’
Even Jareth was a bit mesmerized by the beauty of those masterpieces.
The only thing that quelled the angers of the players from this huge prank was these amazing peices of pure art.
Now that Jareth could see them in reality, these colourful inscriptions looked even more beautiful and detailed.
Jareth was quite sure that these must have been created by someone who was extremely skilled in his craft.
‘The Abyss Altar Area is filled with hidden treasures… for an artist these inscriptions would have been nothing less than priceless treasures as they have literally involved the ‘Law’ of ‘Art’ into them.
Whoever created these, poured so much effort in them that it impressed even the ‘Laws’ of the ‘World’ itself.
This is likely the reason why these peices of art are still intact even after so many centuries, they are protected by the ‘Laws’ of the ‘World’.
Jareth didn’t look for too long and decided to leave.
He doesn’t have much knowledge in this aspect so he can’t actually figure out the finer details in the picture, all he can do is look at them once and appreciate their beauty.
As Jareth reached the end of the corridor the last inscription on the wall showed a massive meteor falling on the ground.
The impact of the falling meteor was so strong that it directly shattered the crust of the Earth and got buried deep into the ground after causing a massive shift in the tectonic plates of the planet.
Then a giant pitch black dragon burst out of the meteor and reigned terror on the world.
The final artwork seemed more ordinary and it seemed like the creator was suffering from some physical problems as there were many mistakes in the inscriptions.
‘This inscirption is what helped the lore enthusiasts find the hidden lore behind Konda ‘The Empty Shell’…’
By the time the creator made this inscription, he was likely also affected by miasma and was losing his sanity along with the skills that he had mastered over the years.
Likely the creator of all these masterpieces met a sad end too.
Miasma doesn’t spare anyone, it’s a horrible and twisted power that likes to torment the weak.
