Chapter 33: Mark: Peaceful life? What’s that?
While walking over to the classroom, Jareth’s face remained as cold as always.
None of the passing-by students noticed anything different with him, in fact, his aura seemed to have vanished in thin air, and only those who ‘saw’ him noticed his presence.
Others didn’t even notice him passing by.
This was all thanks to his newly gained talent ‘Mana singularity’.
An individual’s aura is a result of the disturbance their mana causes in the atmosphere.
Usually strong wizards suppress their aura by stopping the mana in their body to influence the surroundings around them.
The control over aura differs among everyone and it depends on the individual’s mana control ability.
But With this talent, Jareth’s control over mana has reached an extreme state.
He can literally command mana to stop influencing the mana in the atmosphere and this way he can conceal his aura as easily as breathing.
If not for the fact that his face is now famous all over the world and even little children know him, other’s might even mistake him for an ordinary person,
‘Phew, this talent is handy in many ways, I easily avoided getting surrounded by the excited students who wanted to know more about me…’ (Jareth)
Jareth’s mouth doesn’t know how to speak kind words, if those students block his way, he will likely say harsh things and that would make him look too rude, thus the best way is to simply avoid such situations.
As they say: The best way to avoid trouble is to not get involved in the event in the first place!
While walking several thoughts came to his mind.
‘But still, to think that crazy girl will transfer to the university so early… wasn’t she supposed to arrive after the mid-term exams or something…’ (Jareth)
‘Did I cause this butterfly effect somehow?’ (Jareth)
Jareth knew that with him surviving, the story of the game would start to change in subtle ways and the butterfly effect would definitely happen eventually.
*DING*
Jareth glanced at his smartphone and the principal seemed to have sent a message to him.
Jareth opened the message:
[Message From: ‘Old fossil’] (Yeah he changed the principal’s contact name to ‘Old Fossil’]
[A new student will be transferred to your class today, I have sent the details in this document below…]
[Click to open ‘doc.69’]
‘Here it is…’ (Jareth)
Jareth nodded his head and sent ‘Okay’ as a reply, then he closed his phone and placed it back in the pocket of his coat.
‘I already know everything I need to know about that character, so don’t really need that document to figure things out…’ (Jareth)
Although there have been some slight changes in the story due to his activities, he isn’t too worried about all this now.
‘Now that I have a way to become strong myself… I don’t need to worry about these small changes…’ (Jareth)
‘I just need to steal a few more chances from the protagonist and things will be in my favor…’ (Jareth)
Jareth felt no guilt while plotting to steal the chances of the protagonist.
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
He knew that as the protagonist was a son of the heavens blessed by insane luck, he would certainly get some other chances.
The world revolves around the protagonist and can produce any number of opportunities for him, so there’s no need to stay weak and watch as others try to kill you.
Jareth knew how weak he was at the moment.
Any random thing can easily blow his cover and the result will be his death.
Thus, instead of thinking about what the consequences will be for stealing the chances of the protagonist, it’s better to figure out a way to survive.
After all, who doesn’t want to live longer, no one wants to sacrifice their life like a hero for the sake of others.
Only someone selfless can do something like this, and Jareth certainly isn’t a selfless person.
‘If I can survive by stealing things from the protagonist, why would I not do that? Obviously, I will ensure my own survival first before thinking about others…’ (Jareth)
In this world Jareth has no attachments to anyone, the only person he loved for his whole life has been left behind in the previous world and now there’s nothing that binds Jareth to the world.
He can always be as selfish as he wants, he doesn’t need to worry about getting his loved ones involved in his matters, as he doesn’t have any to begin with.
…
Inside the class.
All students maintained pin-drop silence when Jareth entered the classroom.
This has now become a regular thing and no one thinks there is any problem with it.
But unlike usual, Jareth didn’t immediately start the class today.
He glanced at the students and announced in his usual cold tone.
“A Transfer student will be enrolled in this class today…” (Jareth)
Jareth then glanced at the door and said:
“You can enter now…” (Jareth)
The door opened a beautiful girl with dark black hair and pupils walked inside.
A cute smile hung over her face and she seemed elegant and cool-headed.
No one could think that she was messed up in her head and was trying to attack Mark just a few minutes ago.
“Nice to meet you, everyone, I am Risa Shadowfallen…” (Risa)
All the students who were from commoner backgrounds didn’t notice anything amiss, but those who were from noble households immediately recognized the name ‘Shadowfallen’.
Many students started to gossip quietly all of a sudden and the atmosphere became tense.
The ‘Shadowfallen’ household is very infamous all over the empire for raising deadly assassins who are extremely skilled at carrying out shady jobs.
Jareth glanced at the girl and said in his usual cold tone:
“You can sit there, right beside Mark…” (Jareth)
“W-what!?” (Mark)
Mark was bewildered at Jareth’s decision to make Risa sit right beside him, even though he had already seen her trying to attack him earlier.
Jareth tilted his head in confusion and said:
“Is there any problem, student Mark?” (Jareth)
Being stared down by Jareth’s cold eyes, Mark had no choice but to comply.
One of his lackeys who was sitting beside him got up and moved to some other seat and Risa made her way over to him with a happy expression on her face.
“Also, Student Mark will be responsible for showing Student Risa around the whole campus… dodging this matter will result in punishment…” (Jareth)
“Ugh…” (Mark)
Seeing the defeated look on Mark’s face, Risa smiled and whispered in a silent voice:
“See, even professor can recognize my love for you… hehe” (Risa)
Although Mark was indeed frustrated he didn’t refute her words.
“He likely mistook that something is going on between us when he saw us earlier… ugh…” (Mark)
“Hehe…” (Risa)
Risa seemed to be giggling in happiness, but Mark was annoyed and frustrated by the fact that his image in Jareth’s eyes was destroyed.
…
Time passed and the class ended, Jareth left the classroom and all of the students finally heaved a sigh of relief.
Jareth’s deadly stare makes them all feel very nervous thus they can only relax after he leaves.
If it was usual all the students would have flocked over to talk with the ‘transfer student’ but the name ‘Shadowfallen’ was just too big of a wall for them to ignore.
None of them wanted to get involved with a girl who came from a shady household like her.
But they were still curious and didn’t leave the classroom early either.
Mark’s lackey who had to move away earlier came over with an excited look and asked Mark in a questioning tone.
“Hey hey, boss! Do you know that girl? Even Professor Jareth made her sit right beside you? Can’t you tell even your loyal followers about this?”
All of Mark’s lackeys flocked over beside him with excited looks to hear the story behind this interesting event.
They all knew their ‘boss and friend’ Mark all too well, he had never been involved with girls in his school life and had always focused on becoming stronger.
His lackeys even started to mistake that he had no interest in girls like other boys of his age, but today they saw a golden opportunity.
Certainly, if their friend can walk out of the dark shadow of never getting a girlfriend they will also feel happy for him.
(They may be his lackeys, but they consider Mark as a brother and friend. Otherwise, why would they sacrifice their lives for him when he goes against the protagonist?)
“That-” (Mark)
Before Mark could even say anything, Risa got up and declared in a loud voice.
“Mark is my Husband!” (Risa)
*Dead Silence*
“J-joking! She is joking guys! We are only engaged! We aren’t officially married yet!!” (Mark)
*Dead Silence*
After a few seconds of silence, shouts of sheer shock rang out in the whole class.
No one expected the most handsome guy in the university who was being considered the ‘best boyfriend material’ by the whole girl’s community to be actually engaged!
This was so shocking for some of the girls that they even fainted from heartbreak on the spot.
