The Calm Before a storm…
Above the city.
“Hmm… I don’t know why he would try to attack four grade-2 mages all alone… Could it be that he has more friends nearby?”
Seeing that the death knight was buried under the gigantic meteor, Shin glanced all around but couldn’t find any other strong individuals.
Even with his detection, he wasn’t able to find anyone who could help the death knight.
Aside from Abella, Norton, and Zero, there are no high-ranking individuals on the other side.
Most of them are just mindless summoned beasts of grade 3 or lower.
These weak monsters were not in Shin’s consideration at all.
He didn’t think that these weak monsters could help Norton in any way during this fight.
(Grade-3 monsters aren’t weak; it’s just Shin, and others are too strong…)
“Keke… If things are done here, then how about I take a few monsters for myself… Kekeke, I have a lot of new methods that I need to test on the monsters…”
The grade-2 earth magic user, Gazid Bultak, has always had a creepy and weird personality.
His words caused Shin to frown a bit, but he didn’t say anything.
He didn’t want to interfere in others’ business, and he had no reason to try to protect these human-eating monsters from Gazid’s hands.
In excitement, Gazid raised his wand and licked the gem above it.
“Kehekeheheh… I will skin them and bisect all muscles one by one… How exciting would it be!!”
At the university, Gazid teaches earth magic and monster physiology.
He has vast knowledge of the weaknesses and strengths of monsters, as he has encountered and experimented with thousands of monsters in his career.
Instead of a dorm room, he lives in a lab, where all of his test subjects are kept locked in enchanted cages.
Gazid is also responsible for teaching interrogation and threatening methods to the students, as he has amazing mastery over these things.
He knows many horrible torturing methods, and it’s his hobby to read books related to ancient tortures and punishments.
He’s definitely crazy in his head.
Just like Jareth is Mark’s idol, Gazid is Risa’s idol!
Moreover, he favors her a lot, as he can see her talent and crazy personality.
Risa gets full marks in her subjects, as she is just as crazy about learning these things.
This is the only subject in which her grades are better than Mark’s.
Risa frequently borrows torture-related books from Gazid to read and pass time. (There’s a reason why Jareth doesn’t want to get involved with this crazy girl…)
…
Just when Gazid was smiling like a villain, the grade-2 water mage, Yoseh Uneme, clicked her tongue and said,
“You never learn; last time you nearly ended up getting sued by government officials for conducting dangerous and cruel experiments…”
“If you get caught, then don’t beg me to help you again like the last time!”

Yoseh is a member of the Uneme family, which is famous for its devotion to the army.
Most of her family members are either in the army or in the police.
She has a lot of connections; that’s why she was able to keep Gazid from being sent to jail.
(The government only asks for compensation; they don’t dare send a grade 2 mage into jail as they don’t want them to turn into terrorists..)
Hearing Yoseh’s words, the excitement on Gazid’s face vanished in an instant, and he smiled awkwardly while scratching the back of his neck.
“Haha… no, no, I don’t do any illegal things, Ms. Yoseh; believe me, I am innocent and pure like milk!!”
When Shin heard those words, he frowned and said,
“Innocent and pure, my A*s! You b*stard like to trick students into buying your heinous research papers that contain horrible torture methods! You are corrupting the children!!”
Gazid also had thick skin; he wasn’t going to admit his wrongdoings at all. He smiled shamelessly and said,
“Cough… Mr. Shin, you misunderstood me! I just sell those things for ‘research purposes’! Reading them can help the students understand the anatomy of monsters in a much better way!!”
Gazid immediately began to act as though someone had wronged him.
“I even give refunds if the students want to return them, but the students like those research papers so much that they never return them… You can’t blame me for it…”
He wiped away the non-existent tears from the corners of his eyes and shook his head, as if he were truly experiencing mistreatment.
Yoseh couldn’t stand it anymore, and she kicked the guy in the back.
“F*ck off! Your skin is as thick as a city wall! How can someone be so shameless! Ugh…”
Gazid then started to pretend to be hurt.
“Ugh! You broke my spine! Ms. Yoseh, no man will marry you if you are so aggressive!”
Blood veins appeared on Yoseh’s forehead after hearing that shameless guy’s words.
“Whatever! It’s not like I want to marry so soon!”
Gazid wasn’t going to stop there thought; he continued talking while maintaining that harmless smile on his face.
“So soon, you say? You are already past 30! Children will start calling you grandma soon-”
Before Gazid could finish his words, Yoseh punched him in the face as her expression twisted in anger.
“Who are you calling a grandma!!”
As the two were arguing, Shin shook his head,
“Tch, how childish…”
Thomas looked at Shin with complicated emotions after hearing those words.
‘You bicker with Jareth like children too, you know…’
Thomas wanted to say that out loud, but he didn’t want to get in unnecessary trouble, so he didn’t say it.
…
An underground church, location unknown
In the center, a small magic circle appeared, and Norton instantly teleported above it.
Without wasting a single second, Norton bent his knee and saluted the cult leader, whose figure was hidden behind a black mist.
“Master… I have returned…”
The cult leader nodded his head and said,
“Good… It seems you have succeeded…”
Norton nodded his head at those words and replied,
“Yes… I did as you ordered…. Bought enough time, the plan has succeeded…”
Indeed, Norton was ordered to just buy some time if things went south, but when he was buried under the massive meteor, he sensed that the altar was already complete and there was no need to stay there any longer.
He used a teleportation magic scroll to leave the area, and his presence disappeared.
Shin and others misunderstood the disappearance of his presence and thought that Norton had died after being hit by that massive meteor.
Yoseh’s water magic enhanced the meteor’s speed, resulting in a massive impact that created massive shockwaves and even cracked the ground far and wide.
“Good… Did you add ‘that’ to the altar?”
Norton nodded his head and replied,
“Yes, I did it…. without alerting Abella…”
Hearing Norton’s answer, the cult leader burst into hearty laughter.
“hahahaha…. Good good! Now we can move forward to the next step! It’s our victory!!”
The cult leader then waved his hand at Norton.
“You have completed your mission; you can go…”
Norton gave a salute to his master before departing.
“Understood!”
…
Above the city.
“Hmm… why do I feel that I am forgetting about something…”
Shin rubbed his chin and tried to remember what he was forgetting about.
At that moment, Thomas said,
“It’s Jareth… He got separated from us, and we don’t know what happened to him…”
Shin waved his hand at Thomas’s words and said,
“No, not him… You don’t really think that he will be in trouble, do you?”
Even Gazid and Yoseh nodded their heads.
“Yeah, he is strong; we don’t need to worry about him…”
(These guys are literally misunderstanding him to be a super strong guy who can deal with any difficulties that might come his way… so they aren’t planning on going to his side…)
Just then, Shin noticed the altar in the corner of his eyes and immediately remembered what he had forgotten.
“Ah yes! We have to destroy that altar!”
Shin glanced at Gazid and Yoseh and said,
“You two go and deal with the rest of the monsters that are left in the city; me and Thomas will go and deal with that altar…”
Gazid and Yoseh both nodded their heads and flew away in two different directions to deal with the monsters.
Thomas and Shin instantly increased their flying speed and arrived near the gigantic altar.
“Ugh… Fortunately, I am using a mana barrier; otherwise, I think the smell in this place must be horrible…”
Thomas also nodded his head at those words.
Thousands of human skulls decorated the altar, and he could see muffified bodies piled up everywhere.
“This place is horrible…”
[Grade 3 Frost Magic: Ice Rain!]
Shin used his frost magic, and gigantic icicles fired at all of the monsters nearby, killing them in an instant.
Shin cleared all of the monsters from the central area with a single spell.
But what surprised him the most was that his attack had no effect on the altar.
When the frost icicles were about to hit the altar, a barrier made of pure soul energy appeared and protected the altar from Shin’s magic.
“Ugh… It’s this type of restriction…”
After Nathan, Thomas is the most knowledgeable about barriers in the entire university.
He quickly identified the type of barrier on the altar.
“Ugh… This barrier is the self-repair type; it won’t break unless the energy stored inside the altar runs out… but I am sure the energy reserve of this altar is definitely massive!”
Ten thousand souls are being used to generate energy for this altar; obviously, it has a massive energy reserve.
“Breaking this altar is going to be troublesome…”
Thomas and Shin couldn’t help but frown at this situation now, as they were both out of options.
