First Demonic Dragon - Chapter 938
Chapter 938: Lucky
Kanami awoke to the feeling of something slightly heavy on her chest.
She slowly opened her eyes to find herself staring at an unfamiliar ceiling: a fan spinning round and round above her head.
‘Oh, right. That human’s home…’
Kanami tilted her head up so that she could deduce the passenger lying on top of her breasts.
She showed her first smile, and Fat-Face smiled back.
“…Hey, girl. Were you worried about me..?”
Kanami warmly scratched the drooling beast behind her ears.
She wasn’t necessarily a big pet person like her brother. She had a locust, but saw that as more of her partner in battle rather than something she wanted to cuddle with and take care of.
Fat-Face was different. A certified cutie-patootie if Kanami had ever seen one.
Kanami sat up fully and looked around the room.
Her husband was sitting in a chair at the foot of her bed. He was slumped over and sleeping while holding onto her foot.
In the corner of the room were her brother and sister. They were leaning against each other while they slept as well.
Kanami saw her phone on the nightstand. She grabbed it and checked the time and date.
3 a.m. Four days after she had gone through that fight with Mammon.
No wonder everyone was crowding around her like this. Kanami wasn’t really the kind of person who slept in a whole lot. It drove her insane.
While she sat up, she noticed a person phase through the door like a ghost.
She and Lailah locked eyes with each other, and she saw instant relief wash through her sister-in-law’s face.
“…I did tell them to try and keep her off of your bed, you know? She was drooling on your bandages.” Lailah smiled wryly. “I had to finally run and get waterproof ones.
Kanami looked down at herself and realized that she was, in fact, heavily bandaged from the neck down.
“…Believe me, I don’t mind. This little one just wanted to lend me a little bit of moral support, is all. It’s helping me to feel a little bit less pathetic.”
“You are not pathetic, Kanami.” Lailah urged. “From what your brother tells me, you were on your feet when he found you. There is still not a force alive that has been able to best you.”
At the sound of all the chatter, Hakon finally stirred.
As his eyes fluttered open, he found Kanami sitting up on the bed with a large bulldog in her lap.
“Look, Fat-Face. Say hello to Papa..” Kanami lifted Mimzy’s paw so that she could wave at Hakon.
The grey-skinned Nevi’im wasn’t the only one to wake up.
Abaddon and Malenia finally stirred, and they too looked instantly relieved.
“No need for you all to start looking at me like that…” Kanami muttered as she turned her head. “It’s just insulting if you thought something like this would be enough to take me out.”
Hakon stood up and wrapped his arms around his wife’s neck. Kanami didn’t seem to mind almost being suffocated in the slightest.
“Whether we thought it would kill you or not, we were never going to take your life for granted.”
Hakon was by nature a man of few words. But after several lifetimes spent together, Kanami had learned to read him perfectly.

He was far more worried than she initially thought.
After he kissed her and let her go, Kanami turned towards her brother, who had been sitting in the corner of the room quietly.
“It was Mammon.”
“That doesn’t surprise me.”
“He was different. Percival must have taken genetic material from Behmoth and Ziz before he left them for dead.”
“Kanami.”
“They had eldritch DNA, too. But it was pure-too pure to not have come from a-”
“Kanami.” Abaddon repeated. “I know. That’s not important for right now, sister.”
Kanami swallowed her pride as she slumped back into bed. “So… what’s the prognosis?”
Lailah shook her head as she sat on the edge of the bed. “Well, like your brother said, you won’t die.”
“That feels like a low bar.”
Laialh ignored her and continued. “The substance permeating your body. Like with Apophis, it’s somehow tricked your body into keeping the wounds open under the guise of healing it. You’re not getting worse, but… you’re not recovering either.”
“Meaning you’re not at full strength.” Malenia said gently.
Kanami’s heart sank to the bottom of her feet. She could feel it now. Sickness still coursed through her like a river.
Her pierced heart began to beat more wildly. Everyone in the room could hear it.
“W-What about the rest of my power…? What I left behind at home?” Kanami suddenly asked.
Lailah smiled at her softly. “That’s the one bit of good news I have. The sudden influx of your power should be enough to give you something of a jump-start. I’d bet my lab that you’ll make a full recovery.”
Audrina popped her head out of the shadows like a sexy groundhog. “Wow, really? You really must be in good hands, K. She loves that place more than us.”
Abaddon silently nodded along in agreement. Lailah rolled her eyes and didn’t bother to dignify either of their jabs with a response.
“Anyway. You got lucky.” Lailah finished. “If the venom had gotten into your system while you had your full power, then I’m betting the substance would have adjusted to that level of power, and an infusion wouldn’t have helped you.”
“And then..?”
“Your brother or Lillian would have had to make you a new body.” Lailah admitted.
Kanami shuddered at the thought.
Her blood began to boil as she thought of her Uncle and the humiliation he had put her through.
“I already know what you’re thinking about, and you should probably stop.” Abaddon interjected.
“I should have been able to crush him with ease.”
“You weren’t defeated.”
“I wasn’t victorious either. I was bailed out.” Kanami hissed at the memory. “It was disgraceful. I’m better than that.”
Abaddon rubbed his temples in exhaustion. “The only thing that you are right now is fucking annoying.”
“Is that anyway to talk to an injured soldier, dickhead!?”
“Hardheaded ones.”
“Dick.”
Abaddon started to retort, but Malenia wisely decided to cover his mouth. “As we were saying, we’re just glad that you’re alright, sister. But then again, we never really had any doubt.”
Malenia smiled at her sister proudly. Abaddon rolled his eyes at the obvious favoritism.
“O-Oh, that reminds me…”
Kanami shifted Mimzy in her lap nd held out her hand. After a bit more concentration than normal, a familiar relic appeared in her grip.
Malenia covered her mouth as her eyes threatened to water. “I.. that’s-”
“I would have never let him take it.” Kanami grinned. “I know how much it meant to you.”
Malenia finally couldn’t help herself and nearly tackled her and Mimzy both with a crushing hug.
For a moment, it didn’t look like Abaddon was going to join them, but two fierce glares from his wives quickly told him that wasn’t the right call to make.
As Abaddon wrapped the two in his embrace, he unknowingly squeezed the two of them a bit harder than he realized.
Of course, he was worried about his sister. Ever since she had come back, he hadn’t thought of anything else.
Knowing that she was alright was a huge weight off his shoulders.
“Well, ahem…” Abaddon slowly released them both. “Hakon is going to take you home. You should get some more rest even when your powers come back.”
Kanami opened her mouth to refuse, but judging by the look on her husband’s face, doing so probably wasn’t the best thing for her marriage right now.
“…Fine.” She conceded.
Hakon’s eyes became noticeably less intense.
“Don’t worry, we’ll be behind both of you shortly.” Lailah squeezed her hand. “Just a few loose ends to tie up before that.”
Hakon started to help Kanami out of bed and helped her pull on a robe. “Loose ends, huh…? How many of our relics did you manage to get back…?”
Abaddon paused with his hand on the doorknob. “…Twelve.”
Kanami nodded slowly. “So… there are four still missing then… Do you think that-”
“I think that for once in your life, you should go home and rest. Maybe getting acquainted with your new family member will be just what you need.” Abaddon cut her off and pointed to the pup in her lap.
Hakon looked down at the dog in Kanami’s arms. For some reason, it felt like they were about to bring a new baby home.
The thought terrified him to his core.
“Just one last question.” Kanami insisted.
Abaddon sighed and looked back at her.
“What do you think that they want with our relics..? I know you’ve spent some time thinking about an answer.”
Truthfully, Abaddon hadn’t considered what Percival’s forces wanted with the old trinkets. Because, thanks to Beelzebub and Lucifer II, he knew exactly what Percival wanted.
And the idea made his very blood run cold.
Abaddon took his hand off the doorknob and went back to his sister.
He gave her a kind kiss on the crown of her head and squeezed her shoulders gently.
“…I’ll see you at home, sister. Rest.”
He vanished without any further comment. Audrina followed swiftly behind him.
Silence fell within the room. Lailah tried to mitigate it.
“I’m sorry about him…. He’s just-”
“Things are that dire, huh..?” Kanami said quietly.
Lailah wasn’t good at lying to her family. So instead of trying and failing, she decided it was better to say nothing at all.
