Chapter 122: The Plea
“Welcome back, boss.”
Marcus received Blaze’s laptop bag as the latter stepped out of his car, worried that his boss’s mood might be sour after returning from his late father’s remembrance ceremony.
“Thanks, Marcus. I trust everything has been running smoothly in my absence?” Blaze demanded, taking a long stride towards the reception entrance.
Marcus was rendered speechless for a few seconds. Did his cold, grumpy and ruthless boss just say, thanks or was he hearing voices?
“Marcus…”
“Oh, sorry sir. Yes Sir.” Marcus quickened his pace to catch up with Blaze.
“What is the state of the AZ Realty company acquisition.”
“It’s at the final stage, Sir. We will have complete control of the company assets and operations by Thursday, this week.” Marcus reported.
“Put a hold on it for now.” Blaze walked through the automated sliding door, casually acknowledging his employees, whose heads were lowered as they greeted him and continued with their work.
“What did you say, sir?” Marcus’s eyes widened in shock. He couldn’t believe his ear. He dramatically stuck his right forefinger into his ear and wiggled it a little.
“I’m certain you’re not deaf.” Blaze strode towards his private elevator and Marcus quickly hurried in front of him and pushed the open button. He waited for the boss to get in before following behind him.
As the elevator door slid shut and started ascending Marcus asked again just to confirm Blaze’s instructions while inwardly praying that the latter would not snap at him.
“Sir, please pardon me. Just to be sure I heard you correctly, you want me to place a hold on the AZ Realty company acquisition owned by Senator Gregory Shawls?”
“Yes.” Blaze gave a monotonic reply as he scrolled through his outstanding phone message, furrowing his forehead at some unpleasant reports.
“For how long.”
“Until further notice.”
“Until further notice?”Marcus’s jaw dropped.
“Do you have a problem with that?” Blaze peeled his eyes away from his phone temporarily, shooting Marcus a cold glare.
“No, Sir.” Marcus lowered his gaze. “I’m sorry sir.”
“You better be.” Blaze returned his attention to his phone.
“What the hell.” Marcus echoed in his heart.
Standing behind his boss, he checked the back of Blaze’s head to ensure he didn’t bump it against a hard surface. But there was no swelling or bandaged part on the sleek dark brown hair.
‘What the hell happened in that countryside?’ Marcus queried his thoughts. ‘Did the boss suddenly grow a conscience or was there something else he wasn’t saying?’
This acquisition.- set to cripple the senator’s finances – was the first in a series of attacks meant for Senator Gregory to completely ruin him. Blaze has not only spent time perfecting the process but resources in ensuring that the acquisition was foolproof.
‘What went wrong? No, I have to do something?’ Marcus decided.
“Sir may I give my opinion concerning the acqui…”
“No, you may not.” Blaze rudely cut him off. “And what is this rubbish about the senator acting delusional?”
“We think the senator is been unknowingly fed some kind of recreational drug by his wife and younger brother. According to our spy planted within the mansion, he has been acting delusional after the birthday party. It was speculated that you tackled him and knocked him out for slapping your wife, sir.”
“What!” Blaze let out an evil chuckle as the elevator bell dinged.

“Yes, sir. However, when we reviewed the secret micro camera planted around that section of the mansion, we discovered that Jerry Morgan was responsible for the attack.”
“Interesting.”
Blaze checked the time on his Rolex wristwatch as he stepped out of the elevator. It was a few minutes before nine and he didn’t want to be late for his meeting. “You will continue with the debriefing after the meeting. Are the board of directors seated?”
“Yes, sir.”
“Schedule an appointment for noon with Mr Brown from the IRS. Also, inform Echo to suspend uploading those criminal charges against the senator as earlier planned. Have all the recorded videos on every captured exchange that took place in that mansion over the weekend compiled and sent to me. I need to know what I’m dealing with.”
“Okay, sir,” Marcus replied, still in shock as he watched his boss turn his back and leave.

Upon arrival at her company, Amelia spent the first few hours of the day in her offices going through some departmental prepositions and signing different documents. Afterwards, she paid a brief visit to the production department to validate the final production stage of the new cosmetic line that was set to be displayed later in the week.
Amelia was in the middle of work when she was alerted by her secretary that she had a visitor waiting at the reception.
When Amelia discovered that the visitor was no other than her aunt Judith, she instructed her secretary to send her aunt to her office.
Ten minutes later, Amelia joined her aunt in her executive office.
“Hello, sweetie.” Judith put aside her glass of pineapple juice, as she stood up to greet her niece.
“Hello, Aunt Jay.” Amelia strolled over to her and embraced her briefly before taking a sit beside her. “I hope I didn’t keep you waiting.”
“Not at all and I am sorry for coming unannounced.”
“It’s fine.” Amelia waved her hands dismissively. “How’s Uncle Anthony, and my cousins.”
“They are doing great.” Judith scrutinized the way Amelia was radiating with an unusual glow. “What happened to you?”
“How do you mean?” Amelia looked down at his purple suit jacket, wondering if she had a stain on it.
“You are glowing baby girl,” Judith said beaming, still checking her niece out. She was radiating with so much beauty unlike she had ever seen before.
“Oh… You got me thinking something else. But thanks..” Amelia took a piece of her aunt’s cookies and started munching on it.
“So what’s the secret?”
“What secret?” Amelia rolled her eyes, blushing at the way her aunt was scrutinizing her.
“Oh come on, Amy. This didn’t happen overnight. Moreover, I recall you telling me you were expecting your husband’s grandparents for the weekend. How did it go? Were they as grumpy as the young fellow?”
“Far from it, Aunt Jay,” Amelia said dropping her half-eaten cookies and facing her auntie, her excitement evident.
“Blaze’s grandparents were simply exceptional. They are the most amazing old folks I have ever encountered in my life. They made me feel very special and loved. I can’t remember being this happy for a long time since the death of Mum.” Amelia ended her statement with a sigh.
“Hey! Don’t feel that way. At least now you have people who genuinely love you. Not like those crazy people from your father’s side of the family. Which brings me to the matter at hand.” Judith turned all serious.
“What is this I hear about Blaze knocking out your father cold.”
“What!” Amelia was stunned. “Who told you that?”
“Your dad,” Judith replied, staring at Amelia’s puzzled reaction.
“Dad said that?” Amelia’s expression turned cold.
“Yes, he called me and started venting his anger and frustration, saying that not only did you disobey him, by marrying a man he told you to stay away from, but you brought him over to the mansion to beat up everyone. He said he had been bedridden for days due to this incident and he swore to come after your husband with everything he’s got. He wouldn’t even listen to me after I tried talking him out of it.”
“Is that so?” Amelia stood up laughing bitterly, anger sipping through her veins. She crisscrossed the room, pacing like a caged animal seeking release. Her neck muscle bulged with rage and a vein throbbed like a tiny stream in the center of her forehead.
“I can bet a million dollars that Regina put Dad up to this.” Amelia spat out between gritted teeth, clenching her fist in anger. “She and the rest of those lying scum plan on ruining Dad’s relationship with me. They are trying to cover their tracks because for as long as I could remember, I was the one who stopped Blaze from going berserk on Dad after he saw the slap hand print on my face.”
“Wait a minute, Gregory slapped you?” Judith’s eyes widened in shock.
Amelia’s eyes turned moist as memories of that faithful night flashed across her mind.
“He didn’t just slap me, but he watched that snake he calls a wife and that backstabber I call a step-sister humiliate me over and over again. He didn’t even give me a chance to explain myself. Even after I sent him proof of Gwen’s wickedness, he didn’t reply to my email. Rather he barred me from ever reaching him through calls or text messages. Tell me, is that fair?” A tear drop escaped Amelia’s eye but she quickly cleaned it not wanting to waste her precious tears on someone who didn’t care about her.
Judith sighed, rising up to her feet. She walked up to her niece and held her on the shoulder. “No, it isn’t. But remember you said it yourself, your father and Nana are innocent. They may have turned against you based on the plot by other members of the family. But whatever you do, don’t let your anger destroy them. You need to find a way to make peace with your father and explain things to him. I’m sure he’ll have a change of mind once he listens to your own side of the story with proof of course.”
“How?” Amelia felt frustrated. “How do you expect me to convince him and Nana when they both see me as an enemy.”
“Let me be the connecting bridge between you two.”.Judith pleaded. “I know I can get Greg to listen to me. I will set up a meeting between you two. Okay.”
Amelia nodded her head, hugging her aunt.
“By the way, I’ve given consent for your cousin to go to her music festival. She’ll be leaving on Friday.”
“That’s great. Thanks, aunt.”
