Chapter 136: Resentment
Over the years, the Beauty South Chardin Conference has always held its remarkable annual gathering of legendary beauty entrepreneurs and business icons. This gathering served as an enlightenment to beauty brands in the southern region of the continent and their client worldwide. It was aired by various media companies and live-streamed on the Internet, with millions of viewers all over the country and beyond.
Consequently, when the handsome Blaze Anderson known for his private lifestyle, unofficially confirmed his marriage to Amelia Shawls, the first daughter, of Senator Gregory Shawls, the announcement was greeted with a groundbreaking ovation. It went viral within seconds, topping the chart of every search engine, as netizens sought to get more information about the couple, digging into their past and present.
Beautiful pictures of the couple holding hands and walking out of the conference venue were uploaded by different bloggers. This was followed by millions of likes, comments and shares.
While thousands of Amelia’s fans, congratulated her on hitting the jackpot, wishing her a happy married life, some anti-fans who supported her ex-husband castigated her for being a hypocrite.
They claimed that she wasn’t as innocent as she painted herself to be, calling her a double face backstabbing lady for secretly practicing the same thing, she accused her ex-husband of.
“Look at her….” Regina stared at the television, jealous and resentful of the way Blaze and Amelia were holding hands in public and walking into their car amid flashing camera lights. She wished she could go into the television and asphyxiate Amelia to death. “She thinks she’s on top of the world now, acting all classy and important.”
“Not for too long sister! Not for long. Her days of marital bliss are numbered. When we are done with her, she would wish she had died that night before her wedding.” Pearl swore, hissing like a cobra as she stood up and walked towards the television.
“What are you planning to do?” Gwen asked sharply, her head still bandaged but her face was no longer swollen, except for some fading bruise marks.
“Turning off the television of course. I don’t want you to be affected by that tramp’s disgraceful antics.”
“Leave it. I’m not affected by her. I only feel sorry for her. She’s dining with the devil without even realizing it.” Gwen sneered even though she was secretly envious of Amelia’s bubbling relationship. She had seen the way Blaze had acted protectively and possessively around her, giving the inclination that he may be in love with her.
“Her downfall is going to be epic,” Regina said, stroking Gwen’s hand, when she observed a hint of sadness flash across her daughter’s eyes. “Everything is already in motion and sooner than later all this media attention she is enjoying is going to turn into her worst nightmare. I promise you that.”
“Yeah! I can’t wait to gloat over her misfortune.” Pearl grinned slyly.
“Any word from Jerry?” Gwen turned to look at her mother, her heart still bleeding from his sudden disappearance. Seeing her step-sister all happy and with someone who loved her evoked a deep sadness in her eyes, making it turn moist.
“No darling,” Regina replied, lifting her hands to Gwen’s cheek and wiping away her streaming tears. “Your uncle is still searching for him but I will advise you to forget about him.”
“I can’t.” Gwen looked down on her slightly protruded tummy, heartbroken by her revealed secret.
Gwen had been very careful since the day she realized she was pregnant from a one-night stand. She planted the pregnancy on Jerry hoping to start a life with him and forget about her past mistake. So how the hell did his younger brother know that the child wasn’t Jerry? She hadn’t told a soul, not even her mother. How she hated her life right now and wished she could go back and make some corrections.
“Please don’t tell me you are still in love with that jerk.” Regina’s voice was laced with a hint of anger.
Gwen shot her mother a sharp look before rolling her eyes and looking elsewhere.
“He betrayed you, Gwen.” Pearl butted in, uninvited, taking her seat beside her niece on the bed. “He stole your money and ran away. As if that is not bad enough, that useless brother of his had you beating up even in your condition.”
“You don’t have to remind me about that. I remember everything that went down vividly.” Gwen hissed, turning her face upwards to hold back her tears.
Regina sighed.
“If it’s about the baby, there are a lot of good men out there that can father your child. You still have your youth and you are very beautiful. Any man will be stupid to turn you down.” She said softly.
Gwen smiled bitterly at her mom’s last statement. Didn’t Jerry just turn her down after everything she had given to him?
“I could even arrange one of the rich men for you that will love you and spend on you.” Regina continued “Forget about that loser. All we have to do is get back every cent you’ve spent on him and then trash him.”
“Yeah!” Pearl concurred.
“And end up just like you?” Gwen sneered.
Regina’s gaze narrowed and darkened. She stood up and walked away from Gwen’s bedside, trying her best to contain her rage.
“I’m sorry Mom. All I’m just asking is for a chance to sort out things with him before Uncle Matt hurts him. I promise I’ll get back my money from him but I need to know if there is hope for us.”
“Hope?” Regina chuckled bitterly, her back on her daughter. “Just focus on getting better and leave hope for the hopeless. I need some air.” With those harsh words, she left the room leaving Gwen crying in her aunty’s arms.

Meanwhile, at the Capitol, the senator kept receiving congratulatory messages and antagonistic calls from his political friends and business partners over the secret marriage of his daughter.
One of such friends, who happened to be Amelia’s godfather, even called him to express his anger, accusing the senator of being very heartless, for not inviting him to his goddaughter’s wedding.
Although Senator Shawls was against the marriage, he couldn’t bring himself to reveal that Amelia married a man he disapproved of. He couldn’t tell anyone that his son-in-law was a ruthless psychopath, with a killer instinct. He couldn’t confide in anyone that his home was divided because of this unsanctioned marriage. He couldn’t even bring himself to tell anyone that he didn’t get the sole privilege to willingly give his daughter away to her new husband.
All the senator could do was accept the congratulatory message and swallow the bitter pill of Amelia’s betrayal, while planning to dissolve the marriage and get his daughter.
After a while when the calls became too infuriating to receive, the senator was forced to switch it off, venting angrily inside his office. He sat down on his executive chair, fuming, his face contoured like rumpled paper. His rage could be compared to that of a steamroller flattening everything in its path.
The intercom in the office rang, forcing the senator out of his excruciating thoughts.
Heaving a sigh, he picked up the intercom.
“Didn’t I say I don’t want to be disturbed?” He boomed over the intercom.
“I’m sorry sir but, Engineer Van Cobalt is here to see you.” The secretary said in a trembling voice.
