Chapter 140: Interrogation
“Amelia!”
Jerry echoed in his heart, his chest tightening, as a wave of guilt and horror washed over him. The freezing air around him seemed to have dropped a few degrees lower as he felt a cold shiver run down his spine, causing more goosebumps to appear on his skin.
‘If Amelia was here- where ever the hell this place was, – then her husband must also be beside her.’ Jerry’s pounding heartbeat quadrupled.
As if in response to his thoughts he heard that cold dangerous and vicious voice echo inside the room they were in.
“Take off his blindfold and untie him.”
“Yes, sir.”
Jerry winced in pain as a pair of hands roughly untied something at the back of his neck and removed the shackles binding his hands behind the chair. The thick rope which held his body in place was also released giving him the freedom to move his body at will.
He squinted as his eyes were assaulted by the overhead bright white light illuminating the room when his blindfold was taken off.
Massaging each of his hurting wrists intermittently, he closed his eyes temporarily to adjust to the brightness of the room and slowly opened them, his breathing heavy and raspy.
“Aren’t you a sight for sore eyes?” Amelia asked, scowling at the man seated before her, disgusted by his presence.
Every being in her wanted to launch forward and shred his face to bit for daring to raise his filthy hands on her father. But she kept her cool, especially after promising Blaze that she wouldn’t allow her emotions to get the best of her while interrogating Jerry.
“Amelia…”
Jerry’s lips moved but no words came out of his mouth. He was scared of calling her name out loud, terrified of what the dangerous devil standing beside her would do to him.
“So you think you can run away and start life afresh after the mess you’ve created back in the city?”
“No…” Jerry shook his head, his eyes darting between the couple standing in front of him like two immovable mountains. They were both glaring at him like hungry tigers who were about to have their fleshy taste of sweet revenge.
Jerry’s eyes darted towards the open unguarded door, the thought of escaping his nightmare clouding his thoughts.
His hands had been set loose, his legs were free, and the door was open and unguarded. Aside from the unarmed couple standing before him, only three dangerous-looking bodyguards were standing at various strategic positions.
What were the odds that if he made a run for it, he wouldn’t be caught? Probably one out of ten chances.
Every instinct in Jerry told him to get up and run. But for some weird reason, he couldn’t stand up. His butt felt as though it was glued to the chair, and his leg felt as though there was no energy left in it.
As if reading his thoughts, Jerry heard Amelia’s sweet voice echo in the room.
“Go ahead. Make a run for it.”
Jerry’s trembling gaze slowly tilted to look at her, his body trembling like an autumn leaf in the wind.
“Go on. Take this golden opportunity. It will only be given to you once. The door is open. Your legs and hands are no longer bound. No guards in this room will stop you. So, take the bold step and make a run for it while you can.”
A devilish smirk slowly framed Blaze’s lips as he watched Jerry almost wet his pants, as he fought not to look in his direction.
Jerry shook his head, his lips trembling as he stuttered. “I… I’m s…sorry.” He knew what awaited him outside the door if he dared to run. Probably one hundred armed dangerous men with machine guns ready to take him down. He would rather take his chances and plead to Amelia’s conscience knowing she was his only ticket out of this place alive.
“Sorry! You are a coward.” Amelia spat out between clenched jaws. “Nothing but a slimy, Lily-livered and spineless coward.”
The sound of approaching men forced Jerry’s eyes back to the door. He watched in grave silence as two armed men dressed in black combat outfits entered the room, carrying two armless chairs. These chairs were set side by side, five metres opposite him. He heard the door slam shut, closing his window of escape. His twitching eyes darted back to the dangerous couple as they leisurely sat down beside each other as if they were about to be served dinner at a fancy restaurant.
Amelia slowly crossed her long legs and focused her attention on him.
“You know, I always thought you were a good man. I thought you were one of those few who would do anything to sacrifice for their lovers. I was even foolish enough to think you loved me. You didn’t just have me fooled alongside the majority of my family members, but you wanted me dead. So I asked why. Why do you hate me this much? What did I ever do to deserve the injustice meted against me? Why did you want me dead?”

“I…it’s not…”
“Shh…” Amelia brought a finger to her lips her expression stern. “Let me make one thing clear to you before you cough out any rubbish from that stinking mouth of yours. All I want is the truth and nothing more or less. I will start by asking you a simple question and in turn, you must give me a simple reply. No explanation is needed. If you insult me or my husband…” She placed her hand on Blaze’s arm resting on his crossed legs. “… by lying to our face, I will make sure the nice fellow standing beside you hurts you very well.”
Jerry slowly cocked his head sideways to look at the gruff-looking hefty man grinning at him devilishly. He watched the man slowly slip on a brass hand knuckle, kissing it at the centre.
Jerry’s breath hitched as he quickly avoided the scary man’s gaze, reverting his attention to the only subtle face in the room, his body trembling more vigorously as though he was about to have a seizure.
“But if you tell the truth…” Amelia continued talking in her calm and calculated voice, soothing Jerry’s spiked nerves. “…I will ensure no one in this room hurts you. Do you understand?”
“Yes.” Jerry nodded his head.
“Good. Now let’s start again.”
“Have I done anything wrong to offend you in the past?”
“No,” Jerry whispered.
“What about my father and my late mother, have they done anything to offend your family?”
“No.”
“Okay. At least now I know I owe you nothing. Now back to that pre-wedding night before the abduction. Were you aware I was going to be abducted when you asked me to meet up at the restaurant?”
Jerry nodded his head slowly, lowering his gaze, tears of regret streaming down his face.
“Aside, from you, who else was in on it.”
“Everyone.”
“Be specific.”
“Regina, Gwen, Matt Desmond and Pearl.”
“Is that all?”
Jerry gulped down the lump in his throat as he tried to steady his ragged breathing. “Your father’s head of security, Lin Fox. S…she was the one who provided us with the abductors.”
“What about my father?” Amelia asked, just to clear every doubt in her conscience.”
“He knew nothing?”
“And Nana?”
“She knew nothing too.”
“Good. So all six of you planned to have me abducted, assaulted and murdered, right?” Amelia’s softened voice took an eerie and threatening turn.
“No.”
“No, what?” Amelia spat out.
Jerry felt his heart quicken as the hefty gross beside him moved some inches closer.
“N…nnn…not everyone. I swear…” Jerry stared pleadingly at Amelia, his actions infuriating Blaze who had given Amelia his words not to hit Jerry unless he deviated from the truth. “I had nothing to do with that.”
“Really! You expect me to believe that crap?” Amelia sneered.
Jerry shrunk in his seat, as the gruff man lifted his fist in the air, ready to descend on him.
“I… I didn’t know they were going to assault you or even hurt you. I swear on my life.” Jerry said, sniffling.
“Then what do you know?”
“Lin only told us that she would take care of things. I didn’t ask for the details because I…I was too scared to find out.”
“You were too scared?” Amelia chuckled bitterly. “Scared about what exactly? That I would somehow find out that you were involved or the fact that you were already sleeping with Gwen behind my back. How about a little something to spur you.”
As those words left Amelia’s mouth, the hefty man beside Jerry brought down his clenched fist on the side of Jerry’s face knocking him out of his chair.
A piercing screech escaped Jerry’s throat as his body hit the floor with a loud thud. He raised his hand to his stinging cheek, wiping off the blood coming out from his nose with the back of his hand while coughing out blood and two broken teeth.
“No…” He cried out as two men picked him off the floor and forced him to sit down and face the couple.
Although Amelia felt nauseous at the sight of blood, she sucked in her breath and asked again.
“Did you know that I was going to be assaulted and murdered that night?”
Jerry nodded in reply, not daring to look up at her, as the blood coming out of his nose dripped on his white t-shirt.
“Use your words.”
“Yes.”
“See, that wasn’t so difficult. You and the rest of my family wanted me dead so that you could make away with my inheritance and settle your family’s financial crisis. But guess what, while you were busy running away from your responsibilities after scamming your so-called brainless wife, your younger brother has succeeded in bringing you back to the pit where you belong. Now, before I hand you over to those looking for you, I have one last question to ask?”
Jerry slowly looked up, cupping his bleeding nose.
“Did you hit my father on the head and accuse my husband of doing that?”
Jerry’s eyes widened in horror as he slowly darted in Blaze’s direction.
