Chapter 161: Traumatized
Senator Gregory felt like a man standing at the edge of a precipitating hill with a boulder tied around his neck, as he watched his brother’s display of complete wickedness. He couldn’t believe that the same responsible Matt he had shared breakfast with earlier today, alongside his mother was the same Matt on the video smoking god knows what like a pro, amid terrifying and ruthless-looking biker’s gangs.
‘When did Matt start smoking and talking like a hooligan?’ The Senator was at a loss for words.
But the smoking wasn’t the part that left the senator gasping for air. Rather, it was Matt’s last instruction to the biker’s gang shortly after he gave them a huge amount of money.
‘I want this attack pinned on my elder brother.’ Matt had said. ‘Let him take the fall and suffer the consequences alone.’
As if that video alone wasn’t enough to give a man a cardiac arrest, the senator listened to Matt’s last audio conversation with Ivy three hours prior to her death. He was asking if Amelia was history.”
Engineer Van was also in a state of shock, unsure of what to say after watching the video and listening to the audio message with his friend.
The only person who spoke at the end of the video was Judith.
Judith spent more than five minutes cursing, swearing and raining hail on the entire Shawls family, for what they have done to her daughter, her niece, and her late sister.
“Now that you have seen a glimpse of who your brother really is and what he is capable of, how do you propose I deal with him and the rest of your family members who have dared to cross part with me and my wife? Mind you, I do not take forgiveness as an option.”
Amelia felt her heart skip a beat at Blaze’s last statement. It almost felt as if that statement was directed to her father. She tilted her head sideways to look at Blaze who seemed more focused, glaring at her father and her heart sank.
Senator Gregory kept his head lowered, beads of sweat dripping from his forehead. His whole body trembling and his weakened heart was threatening to collapse. It seemed as if someone had turned the heat up in the well-ventilated room causing him to struggle for air. He adjusted his tie again and again, unbuttoning the first two buttons of his shirt.
“Water!” The senator whispered, massaging his chest.
“Dad!” Amelia sprang to her feet, hurrying across to where her father was seated and dropping to her knees.
“Water!” The senator lifted his face, anguish, guilt and so much pain suffocating him.
“Someone get me a glass of water,” Amelia screamed while helping her dad to lean backwards on the couch and rest his head. She helped him remove his tie and unbutton his shirt while her aunt picked up a News magazine from under the table and started fanning him.
Unable to take in the agonizing sight before him, – which reminded him of how his father acted before he slumped and went into a cardiac arrest, – Blaze stood up and walked out of the sitting room. He made his way out of the mansion and informed his head of security to have the senator flown back to Judith’s house when he was feeling much better. Afterwards, he retired to his bedroom to work.
When the senator finally regained his composure, he was disappointed to see that Blaze was no longer seated with them in the living room.
“Amy, is your husband coming back?”
“I don’t think so, dad. But don’t worry, everything is going to be fine. I think you need to go home and rest. Tomorrow is another day,” Amelia said, standing up. “Let’s go.”
“But we haven’t finalized anything.” Senator Greg lamented also standing. “If you don’t mind I still want to talk to your husband, please.”
“No, Greg.” Van objected, rising to his feet. “You are not in the right state of mind for this. This whole revelation has taken a toll on you. Amelia is right. We need to go.”
“But…”
“Don’t argue with us, Greg.” Judith reprimanded him in a harsh voice. “Let go. You need to rest.”
“Rest! How can I rest, when my roof is on fire?” The senate asked in a broken slightly raised voice. “How can I rest after everything I’ve just learnt? My own brothers are trying to destroy me? My wife, my second daughter, my sister-in-law and my head of security are all a part of this wicked scheme to take everything away from Amelia. They even tried killing her. Why? How can they do this to me after everything I’ve given to them? Do you know what this will do to Nana if she learns about it? It will kill her.”
“Dad. It’s okay.” Amelia wrapped her arms around her father, trying her best to console him. “Nana doesn’t have to know about anything. We will take care of the situation. Everything will be fine.”
“Nothing is going to be fine, Amy. Not anymore.”
“Trust me, it will be once we are done purging the family.” Amelia reaffirmed optimistically, patting the back of her father’s left hand.
“This is what we are going to do. Firstly, you will put Nana on the first available flight tomorrow morning for an urgent health treatment plan which I will be discreetly managing. I don’t want her getting involved in any of the crisis that is about to unfold.”
“Okay.”

“Secondly, concerning everything you’ve learnt tonight, you will not say a word about it to anyone. Carry on as if nothing has happened until tomorrow evening’s monthly Thanksgiving feast, where every member of the family, including their spouses and children will be present. Invite Lin and tell her to bring her plus one to the family feast. At the peak of the party, Blaze and I will show up uninvited. There and then, we will confront them with the truth.”
“Brilliant!” Van said nodding his head.
“I like the plan too.” The senator concurred.
“They won’t know what hit them this time.” Judith clasped her hand happily.
“And lastly…” Amelia continued sternly. “…avoid eating anything in that house, especially anything offered to you by your wife so that you don’t get poisoned or drugged like before.”
“Like before?” The senator’s eyes widened in horror. “How do you mean?”
“We’ll talk about all of that later. Goodnight, Daddy.” Amelia said shoving her father towards the door.
