Chapter 168: The CCTV Footage
Senator Gregory carried on like nothing was amiss. He continued to act the part of a fool as Matt came to him, cooking up different bullshitting stories. He observed from the corner of his eyes as Matt gave Gwen a thumbs-up while pretending to access her broken ankle.
“Bro, have you had breakfast yet because I’m starving?” Matt said after a few minutes of discussion.
“Yes, I have. I ate with Mom at the airport before she boarded her flight. Why don’t you go to the dining, Sam already informed me that the table has been set for a while now.”
“That sounds like a great idea,” Matt said, standing up. “Gwen, why don’t you join me? I wouldn’t like to eat alone.”
“Sure uncle.” Gwen carelessly put her hurting bandaged foot on the ground, forgetting she was supposed to limp or scream out in pain.
“Is your leg feeling better?” The senator asked wearing his calm and loving expression.
“Ouch!” Gwen swiftly wore back her mask of pretense. “I don’t think I can walk up to that dining table all by myself.”
“That’s why you have an awesome uncle, darling. Let your uncle attend to you while I go take a shower upstairs.” The senator kissed Gwen on the forehead before leaving for his bedroom.
Senator Gregory was on his way upstairs while his wife was coming down the stairs, pretending to be mad at him for his cold behaviour the previous night.
Regina walked past her husband, shoulders held high and face turned sideways as if he meant nothing to her.
“Gina!” Senator Gregory called, stopping in his tracks while staring at his wife back, who had also stopped moving.
“What!” Regina replied coldly without looking at him.
“Aren’t you even going to greet me?”
“Why should I?” Regina cocked her head backwards, eying him from head to two as if he meant nothing to her.
“Really!”
“Well since someone thinks I should hug the pillow because I am nothing to him, then he should know that he doesn’t deserve my respect any longer.”
“Okay. Point taken.” The senator turned around to leave when Regina’s sharp voice stopped him.
“Is that all you going to say? Aren’t you at least going to apologize to me for hurting my feelings last night?” Regina lamented, pretending to be broken. “You haven’t touched me for like a year plus now, all because of work and more work. And last night, when I came to you because I was in dire need of my husband, you told me to go hug the pillow and slammed the door in my face. Tell me, is that what marriage is all about? Don’t I mean anything to you? Don’t you love me anymore?” She said squeezing out a few tears.
The senator chuckled inwardly, the fleeting thought of giving the heartless and ruthless conniving woman a dirty slap, crossing his mind. But if he did that, it would ruin his plans for the night.
‘Hang in the Greg. You can do this. Just do what she wants you to do. When the time comes, you will put her in her place.’ Senator Greg released a sigh and climbed down to meet his wife. He slowly wrapped his hand around her waist and pulled her closer.
“I’m sorry, my love. I was in bad shape last night and I needed some space to cool off. Can you forgive me?”
A cheerful smile spread across Regina’s face as she lifted her hand to ruffle her husband’s smooth textured hair. “You know I love you so much and I can never stay mad at you, my love.” She leaned closer to kiss the senator but he quickly avoided her lips as he kissed her lightly on the forehead.
“I need to go upstairs and take a shower right now. My mom’s health condition has really taken a toll on me. I need some time to cool off. Can you please be patient with me just for today?”
“If only you promise to make love to me tomorrow when you come back from work,” Regina said batting her lashes flirtatiously at him.
“Nothing will give me greater pleasure to give you exactly what you deserve.” The senator said smoothly, stroking Regina’s chin while holding her flirtatious gaze.
“I can wait.” Regina cooed, blushing like a teenager in love.
“Our family members will soon start arriving for the Thanksgiving feast. Why don’t you go downstairs and be a good hostess? I will join you soon.”
“Sure thing, darling.”
As the senator turned around to leave, Regina smacked him on the buttocks, winking before hurrying down the stairs, smiling sheepishly. She failed to see the viciousness in her husband’s narrowed eyes as he left for his bedroom.

An hour later, the senator returned downstairs. However, instead of joining the rest of the family in the sitting room and lounge area, the senator went straight to his home office. He quietly assessed it and locked the door behind him to avoid disturbance.
Going around the table, he sat down on his executive seat, assessing the entire office. He had a feeling that the office was bugged. So he pretended to work on the computer system on his table while in actual fact he was reviewing the installed CCTV footage in his house.
Upon reviewing three hours earlier, the camera captured Matt entering the house and going straight into Regina’s bedroom. He watched Gwen leave her mother’s bedroom and act rudely to her uncle.
Although there was no CCTV footage inside any of the bedrooms, the senator, was able to deduce the time Matt spent inside his wife’s bedroom, which slowly made his blood begin to boil. He also saw everything Gwen did outside her mother’s bedroom before the dramatic fall down the stairs.
Slowly balling his hands into a fist, the senator vowed under his breath, between clenched jaws.
“Matt, so help me God, I will kill you if I find out that you were sleeping with my wife under my roof.”
