Chapter 175: The Blaming Game
Amelia felt her heart stiffen as memories of everything Gwen had done to destroy her replayed in her mind. She bit down on her lower lips to stifle her bubbling rage as she responded to her father’s question.
“Gwen stopped being my sister after she stabbed me in the back and tried to kill me with the rest of the family. Also, I don’t want to discuss this matter right now. I need you to follow my bodyguard to the car waiting for you outside while I speak to the house staff.”
The senator released a frustrated sigh. “It’s like I don’t have a say in this matter.”
“You do, Dad.” Amelia stood up forcing a smile. She helped her father stand up and hugged him temporarily. “But try not to get too emotional about it. Every one of them needs to learn from their mistake or they will do it all over again. Go now and rest your head. It’s going to be a long night.”
The senator sighed, nodding his head. “It’s really going to be a long one.”
“I love you, daddy.” Amelia released her dad, her eyes glistening with unshed tears.
“I love you too, my dear child.” The senator kissed her on the forehead.
“Now go with him. I’ll speak to you in three days when you are feeling much better and relaxed.”
“Thank you, my child.”
The senator left with Clay, while Amelia returned to the mansion to address the entire staff who had been rounded up by the butler following her instructions.
Ignoring some of the hostile looks directed to her by some staff loyal to Regina and Gwen, Amelia addressed all of them calmly and authoritatively. She didn’t give anyone any room to express themselves or plead on behalf of their former bosses.
Rather she directed the butler to get everyone’s bank account number. She promised to pay them six months’ wages, stressing that they all had until the following morning to evacuate the mansion or get arrested. The only person who wasn’t relieved of his job was the old house Butler, whom Amelia found very useful.
After Amelia left the mansion, she was surprised to see her husband still waiting for her in the car. It warmed her heart to know that despite his vendetta against her family, he still stood by her till the very end.

Meanwhile, at the police station, all six of the arrested offenders were detained in six different cells for the night. They were denied their legal rights to one telephone call and left to wallow in silence until the following day.
By 9:00 AM the following day, each of the detainees was escorted to different interrogation room. They were each made to wait for another three hours in the air-conditioned room, battling with their individual demons before interrogation began.
Amelia and Blaze arrived at the police station just in time to witness the interrogation procedure. They were led to the main interrogation room and given a seat in another room, overlooking the entire process through the two-way glass window
The first person to be interrogated was Matt. As expected, he denied the entire allegation levied against him even with the overwhelming evidence. He claimed the person in the video was not him but a look-alike set up by his enemies to frame him.
The next person to be interrogated was Lin. But despite every effort to break her and get the truth out of her, she remains unwavering in her stance, claiming she was being sabotaged.
Desmond also towed the part of his brother but when he was told that his brother had given up his name as the mastermind behind the operation to save his neck, he started singing like a parrot, telling the interrogators everything they wanted to hear. He pushed the entire blame to Matt, Lin, Jerry, and Gwen, leaving Pearl’s name out, as a result of his secret affair with her.
Desmond went as far as betraying Matt by giving the interrogators information they weren’t preview to, throwing more light on Matt’s obsession with the senator’s late wife. It almost painted a picture of adultery as if Matt had an extramarital affair with the late senator’s wife before the birth of Amelia.
This revelation took Amelia unawares, making her almost lose her mind. The thought of her mom cheating on her dad and her being Matt’s biological daughter felt like a nightmare she would never recover from. It left a sour taste in her mouth despite Blaze’s assurance that they would conduct an immediate paternity test when her father returned from his trip.
The interrogation procedure continued with Amelia physically present and absent-minded, her thoughts solely on Desmond’s nauseating revelation.
Just like Desmond, Pearl wasted no time accepting a deal to save her head. She corroborated Desmond’s story while adding a few touches of her own shifting the entire blame to Matt, Jerry, Desmond and Lin as the ones behind the whole operation. However, despite every measure taken to threaten her to give up her sister, Gwen remained adamant in her lies, claiming Regina and Gwen were both victims of the main architects behind the crime.
In the case of Regina, she refused to comment on all the questions thrown at her choosing death rather than opening her mouth to expose and destroy herself.
Finally, Gwen made the interrogators lose their patience as she kept crying non-stop, claiming she was forced into betraying her sister by Jerry and her uncles.
At the end of the interrogation, Lin and Matt were made to watch their partners in crime betray them, giving up their names as the main culprits. Then they were taken to another interrogation room where they were both tortured to their breaking limit until the truth slowly began to come out.
However, Matt opted for death rather than comment on his relationship with Amelia’s mother or Regina.
In Regina’s case, she was made to watch some videos of her many sexual escapades with most of the senator’s friends including her brother-in-law. She was given two choices to either confess or have the video released to the senator.

Seeing no way out of her hell hole, Regina finally confessed to her involvement in Amelia’s kidnap and attempted assassination, while pleading that the videos be kept away from her husband.
At the end of the interrogation process which lasted for roughly three days, it was finally time for all the accused to appear before the judge in a discrete scheduled court section
