Chapter 188: Illusion
Some hours earlier…
Blaze was busy checking out a newly acquired gold mining field with his team of engineers and some private investors, at the interior part of Oak town, – a settlement hundreds of kilometres away from the city – when he received a disturbing message from Tina.
The message simply said Amelia was in bad shape and needed help urgently, with detailed information about her location.
Puzzled by the absurdity of the text message, Blaze put a call across to Amelia.
He waited breathlessly as her phone rang, expecting to hear her sweet voice. But after three trials with no response, he instantly knew something was wrong.
Frustrated and slightly agitated at the inability to access the listening device implanted in Amelia’s bracelet due to distance and bad network reception, Blaze quickly dialled Pascal’s number.
But before the call could connect, he got an incoming call from Pascal.
Listening to the way Pascal’s voice quivered while telling him that something was wrong with Amelia, made Blaze’s heart take a fatal leap.
When he tried to speak with Amelia through one of her friend’s mobile phones, all he could hear was her piercing cry of anguish and the panicked voices of her friends all speaking at the same time.
Like a madman running against time, Blaze sprinted out of the field, leaving his engineers and investors in utter confusion. He was closely chased by his personal assistant, Marcus, who had overheard a tiny bit of the conversation.
“Go back and take charge until you hear from me,” Blaze commanded in a slightly trembling voice as he boarded the chopper.
“Okay, sir.” Marcus stood helplessly on the ground as he watched the helicopter take off. “Oh god please let nothing happen to the boss’s wife.” He prayed earnestly in his heart before returning to the field.
During this one-hour flight to the central part of Oak town, Blaze was constantly updated on her wife’s condition by Pascal, Judith and Stacy through chats and messages.
When Blaze arrived at his destination, he spoke at length to Stacy, who gave him a rundown of what happened. Afterwards, he spoke to Judith, who seemed to be in possession of Amelia’s entire stuff, including her tracking bracelet. Then, he spoke at length with the doctor before boarding his awaiting private jet.

After more than nine long hours of flight, Blaze’s private jet touched down at the airport at about 5: 55 AM.
The world was still in the early stages of waking up, with the first hints of dawn painting the sky in soft hues of pink and orange.
On the tarmac, not too far from the jet, was a sleek black Roll Royce, with a professional-looking chauffeur already positioned at the rare door awaiting his boss.
The chauffeur was surprised to see his boss looking a bit casual but stylish in his well-fitted t-shirt and rugged cargo pants paired with hiking boots, giving him a military officer vibe.
“Good morning, sir,” The chauffeur quickly opened the door, as Blaze came closer
“Take me to the general hospital right away,” Blaze said coldly, as he climbed inside the car, barely acknowledging the chauffeur.
“Yes, sir.” The shuffle quickly shut the door and hurried over to the driver’s seat. He got in and quickly zoomed off in the direction of the Salvine General Hospital.

Tina kept pacing up and down by the entrance to the hospital, the cool morning breeze making her body shiver and her teeth chatter. Her eyes were filled with untold panic and her body kept trembling, not entirely from the cold but from her guilt.
Her mind was slightly unsettled and her heart pounding as she thought of all the worst possible case scenarios of someone discovering her plot.
Earlier, while she was inside Amelia’s room, – pretending to care like the rest of Amelia’s friends and family, – she placed her phone on audio recording and hid it under the couch she sat on.
But after the doctor temporarily excused everyone out of the room to examine Amelia, Tina was hoping to retrieve her phone after the medical examination.
Sadly, when did Doctor left, the nurse in charge informed everyone that Amelia was asleep again and didn’t need any form of disturbance.
This left Tina handicapped and slightly agitated at the thought of her recording phone being discovered by one of Amelia’s bodyguards or friends.

She decided to hang around for a while, pretending to nap on one of the hall benches just like the others, one eye closed and another open, observing and waiting patiently for the right opportunity to retrieve her phone. But after almost three hours of pretending, she became frustrated and decided to take a stroll out of the hospital.
It was already dawn and she could hear the gentle chirping of birds, and the quiet hum of the city slowly waking up. She could even see the first hint of sunlight peeking through the darkness, announcing the beginning of another beautiful day.
Just then the sound of an approaching vehicle made Tina halt. She flipped her head sideways just in time to see a sleek black Roll Royce pull over in front of the hospital’s main building.
“Who is that?” Tina pondered, gawking at the car, her eyes glistening with anticipation and her heart pounding as a name came into her mind.
At that very moment, the rear door of the car was pushed open from within and she saw a black fashionable man’s hiking boot step out of the car in slow motion.
Her mouth fell open, and her heartbeat quadrupled as the neatly trimmed and smooth copper-brown hair of a man came into view.
“Blaze…” Tina’s breath hitched and her lips trembled as Blaze stepped away from the car, oozing an enigmatic, sexy and domineering aura.
She watched him with bated breath as he slowly turned his head sideways, his naturally icy grey eyes emitting a subtle glow as they fell on her. She observed the way his full sexy lips slowly curled into an enchanting smile as he called out her name in slow motion, hitting every musical note of the syllabus in her name.
“Ti-na.”
‘Wait a second, is all of this happening in my head or did Blaze just smile lovingly at me?’
Tina didn’t wait to process her desperate illusion as she called out Blaze’s name and ran towards him in slow motion, arms open wide and a bewitching smile framing her face.
