Chapter 192: A Caring Mother
The room fell silent after Dr Ashley left, giving Amelia enough time to compose herself before her extremely observant husband. She inhaled and exhaled controlling her breathing while praying in her heart that Dr Ashley would keep to her promise.
“Sweetheart, if you are uncomfortable here, I could make all the necessary arrangements to transfer you to a private hospital where only the best doctors will attend to you.”
“No!” Amelia said sharply, taking Blaze by surprise. But she quickly corrected her wrong impression by explaining further.
“What I meant to say is that I am comfortable with the way Doctor Ashley attends to me. She is very compassionate, meticulous and friendly. I like her and I don’t think I want any other doctor except her.”
“Okay, then Dr Ashley it is,” Blaze reassured her. “I will make sure she only gives you the best.”
“Thank you, darling.” Amelia pulled his chin closer and gave him a peck on the cheek.
“You’re welcome.” Blaze beamed. “So tell me what would you like to eat, excluding anything seafood, peanut or caffeine? I could go out and get you something nice.”
“I’m not sure I want to eat anything right now.”.Amelia replied even though she was feeling hungry. She was afraid the smell of food with trigger her nausea and make Blaze suspicious.
“Help me lie down.”
“Sure.” Blaze did as requested before asking again.
“How about fruits?”
“Maybe an apple,” Amelia suggested.
“An apple it is.” Blaze was about to stand up when a knock on the door temporarily made him pause. Thinking the doctor might have forgotten something, Blaze said, “Come in.”
The door was pushed open but instead of the doctor, Maria Anderson showed up by the doorway looking slightly traumatized.
“Mom!” Blaze’s jaw dropped at the sight of his mother.
“Mom!” Amelia whispered, surprised to see her mother-in-law.
“Oh, my sweetheart.” Maria dropped everything she was holding by the door and rushed over to Amelia’s bedside in a heartbeat. She shooed her son away as if he meant nothing to her and took over his spot beside Amelia, her eyes glistening with tears.
“I’m so sorry, for not being beside you my darling. I had no idea you were hospitalized.” Maria said in a quivering tone, taking Amelia’s right hand gently and planting a kiss on it.
“It’s fine, mom. I’m glad you’re here.” Amelia said smiling.
“Thank God you are alright. I couldn’t stop worrying on my way here. I was so scared when I couldn’t reach you on the phone.” Maria said, sniffing while wiping her flowing tears.
“You don’t have to be scared, Mom and please don’t cry. You know I can’t bear to see your tears.” Amelia said, stroking Maria on the arm.
“Okay, my sweetheart.” Maria kissed Amelia on the forehead. “I promise I won’t cry again.” She animatedly wiped her tears making Amelia chuckle softly.
A bright, infectious grin spread across Blaze’s face as he observed the way his mom and Amelia bonded like two inseparable twin sisters. He was curious to know who told his mom about Amelia’s condition.
“By the way, Mom, how did you find out that Amelia was here?”
Maria snapped her head sideways shooting her son a nasty glare. “You must really have some nerves asking me that question after keeping my daughter’s condition away from me.”
“But Mom….”
“Don’t, Mom me.” Maria cut her son off sharply. “I didn’t come here for you. I came here for my daughter. So please move aside.”
“Seriously!”
“Look up my face…” Maria said putting up a straight face. “…does it look like I’m kidding?”
“No.”

“Good.”
Amelia chuckled. It was always fun watching Blaze and his mother act like boyfriend and girlfriend anytime they were arguing or quarrelling.
“But Mom, if Blaze didn’t tell you anything, how did you find out that I was here?” Amelia asked, to satisfy her husband’s curiosity.
“Have you forgotten what today is?” Maria replied to Amelia with a question. “Is our special mother and daughter bonding day like every other weekend. You are supposed to come to the mansion as early as 6:00 AM for our morning workout.”
“Oh… that’s true.”
“So when I tried calling to remind you, your line was switched off which was unlike you. I tried your husband’s number but his line was also switched off. After waiting a few hours and trying again with the same story. I drove down to the villa. When your head housekeeper said you didn’t return home since the previous night, I started to panic. I called everyone I knew who until your aunt Judith picked up and explained everything to me.”
“Ugh! So sorry you had to go through all that stress.”
“It’s nothing.” Mariah waved her hand dismissively. “What matters is that you are alright.”
“Yes.”
“So have you eaten anything?” Maria asked, signaling Pascal, who was now standing inside the room, to bring her bags. “I brought some food from home.”
“She wants an apple and I was about to go out and get it before you arrived,” Blaze explained, feeling left out.
“You want an apple, my darling?” Maria continued to ignore her son, still mad at him.
“Yes, mom.” Amelia nodded, feeling sorry for her husband.
“Here are the bags ma’am,” Pascal announced as he came closer.
“I’ll take them.” Blaze signaled Pascal to excuse them after collecting the bags from him. He looked inside one of the bags and was stunned to see assorted fruits.
“Can I have my bag?” Maria stretched out her hand towards him, her stare cold.
“Mom, please I’m sorry. I was going to inform you later today. I didn’t know you were trying to reach us.” Blaze said handing her bags.
“I don’t…”
“Mom please,” Amelia interjected, cutting Maria off. “Forgive him for my sake.”
Maria released a sigh. “Fine, I’ll forgive you this once because of your wife. But the next time you do this, don’t expect me to go easy on you.” She stood up and hugged Blaze before focusing on Amelia.
As all three chatted happily while enjoying fruits together, Maria brought up an unsettling issue about Amelia’s presumed saviour.
“I’ve been meaning to ask, how did Tina get involved in all of this?” Maria said, taking another bite of her apple.
