Chapter 227: Retribution Call
Blaze walked out of the senator’s room, his expression dull and lethargic. It was evident in his slow steps, his slumped shoulders and his blank gaze. His heart was heavy with grief and the pain of rejection.
He couldn’t believe that a day that started so great would end up with so much bitterness and heartache.
Watching Amelia cry silently beside her father filled him with a sense of loss and hopelessness.
But the most excruciating part of all was listening to her address him formally in that cold, emotionless and bitter voice as those she already considered him an enemy.
Blaze didn’t blame Amelia if she saw him as an enemy. He knew he deserved her spite and anger. He should have been able to control his anger and jealousy. He should have known that she would never betray their love for one another.
Moreover, If someone else had done such a thing to his mother, whether intentionally or accidentally, he wouldn’t have been so merciful as his wife. He would have demanded for that person’s head.
“Blaze, wait up.”
Blaze heard Judith’s gentle voice call him from behind. He turned around to see her hurrying over to him, her gaze anything but friendly.
“Judith, I’m so sorry. What happened between the senator and I was an accident and I didn’t mean…”
Judith put her hand up, her expression stern. “I didn’t come here for your explanation. Although I’m highly disappointed in your actions, I haven’t given up on you just yet. Nevertheless, I won’t stand by and watch any man hurt my late sister’s only child again. She has suffered in the hands of worthless men enough. So whatever is happening between the both of you, you have to fix it before it gets out of hand.”
“Yes, ma’am,” Blaze replied, a slightly terrified piercing look in Judith’s eyes.
Taking a deep breath, Judith’s voice softened a little as she asked. “How is your mother, Eugene told me that she was in a critical state?”
Blaze’s heart dampened even more as a replied. “She fell into a diabetic coma as a result of some complication in a health challenges.”
“Oh dear. I’m so sorry to read that. Does Amelia know?”
“No, and I don’t intend to tell her right now,” Blaze said almost pleadingly.
“I understand,” Judith said, sighing. “Don’t worry. Your mom would be fine. Go to her. I’ll take care of my niece and my brother-in-law. Just make sure you come around even though your wife might not want to see you Let her still see your face and let her see your remorse in your actions and not words.”
“Thank you.”
“I’ll see you later.” Judith patted Blaze on the chin slightly before returning to the senator’s room.
“I have to fix this,” Blaze concluded in his heart. “I have to make things right starting with the bastard responsible for all this chaos.”
“Big bro,” Eugene called out, as he cautiously approached his cousin, whose head was lowered.
Blaze looked up, snapping out of his thoughts. “Hey!” He forced a smile as he raised his hand and patted Eugene on the shoulder. “Thanks for being here for my wife.”
“It’s nothing, cousin. She’s family and family should stick together. Moreover, we can’t both leave her to herself, especially in her condition. Mom would never approve of that. One of us has to be here at all times. She needs to know that she’s not alone in this.” Eugene said passionately as if Amelia was his wife.
Blaze nodded, chuckling bitterly. He was impressed by how Eugene turned out to be an awesome young fellow just as Amelia had earlier complimented. “Thanks, Eugene and I’m sorry for getting you tied up in my mess.”
“It’s fine but you owe me big time.”
“Sure, consider anything you want yours.”
“Including the red Ferrari?” Eugene’s eyes widened in anticipation.
Blaze chuckled knowing how much Eugene had been obsessed with that car ever since he acquired it.
“Sure. You’ve earned it.”
“Yes!” Eugene threw a fist upward in the air, beaming like a child who just got an early Christmas package. He recalled something and said.
“I forgot to mention. I called my mother earlier and informed her of your mom’s current state. I hope you don’t mind.”

Blaze’s forehead furrowed. “You shouldn’t have. I don’t want any other member of our family getting involved or worried.”
“I’m sorry I didn’t inform you first. You know how close and inseparable they both are. I figured my mother would find out later on and blame me for not telling her. Moreover, I begged her not to breathe a word about it to anyone and she agreed it was the best thing to do to avoid grandpa and grandma from panicking.”
Blaze released a sigh. “What else did she say.”
“She said she’ll be on the next flight to the city tomorrow morning.”
“Did she ask any questions about my wife?”
“No, she was more concerned about Mom’s current state. But I’m sure she would ask after Amelia once she arrives. And just say you know, I haven’t said a word about Mom to Amelia. She is still in the dark.”
Blaze let out a sigh, massaging his forehead.
“It’s best you don’t say a word about mom to her. With her father in the hospital and her looking so stressed, I don’t think it’s safe to add any more burden to her conscience. Let’s wait until both of them are discharged before we say anything.”
“Okay”
Blaze was about to walk away when Eugene stopped him holding him by the wrist.
“What about you big bro? Are you all right? Because you don’t look good.” Eugene noted.
“Don’t worry. I’ll be fine. It’s nothing.” Blaze dismissed Eugene’s concerns with a wave of his hand.
“I’m sorry about your fight with sister-in-law. I hope you both work things out because I feel you are both meant for each other.”
Blaze’s smile broadened. He pulled Eugene into his arm and hugged him for the very first time, leaving the latter in a complete daze.
“Thanks for everything. I’ll see you later.” Blaze patted Eugene on the back before leaving the hospital, after giving Pascal new directives.
Outside the hospital building, Blaze made a brief call and in a few seconds, a sleek black exotic car pulled up in front of him.
Blaze’s driver, Fred, stepped out of the car and briskly made his way around it to hand over the keys to Blaze.
“Has Henry arrived at the villa?” Blaze asked, making his way around the car to the driver’s door.
“Yes sir, Mr Gordon arrived over twenty minutes ago before I left the villa.”
“Okay. Find your way back to the mansion and get another car here in case Eugene or my wife needs anything.” Blaze instructed, opening the car door and climbing in.
“Yes, sir.” Fred smiled politely.
The smooth sound of the car engine revved to life as Blaze twisted the key in the ignition. He stepped his foot on the gas pedal and zoomed off while dialling Echo number.
The line instantly connected on the first ring.
“I got your earlier text message. You said you have a package for me?” Blaze said in a cold and sharp voice, his eyes void of emotion and only filled with the quest for retribution on whoever had dared to mess with his family.
“Yes sir, we picked up some culprits who have some interesting tales to tell.”
“Who are they?” Blaze asked between clenched jaws, driving at a speed of 100 kilometres per hour, as he made his way to one of his storage warehouses, located at the outskirts of the city.
