Chapter 23: Jerry’s True Color
A brilliant idea flashed through Gwen’s evil heart as her eyes fell on Jerry and his parents walking into the sitting room.
Already blocking Amelia’s path, she said in a pleading voice.
“Amy, I know you hate me for what I’ve done.” Her gaze flicked down as though she were remorseful and helpless.
“But, please…” She slowly took Amelia’s two hands, “Forgive…”
“Get your filthy hands off me.” Amelia freed her hands. But she didn’t anticipate what would happen next until Gwen flung both her hands in the air and launched herself backwards with such alarming force while screaming Amelia’s name.
“Amy…..” Gwen horrific shriek was replaced by the sound of shattering glasses.
“What the hell!” Amelia’s widened eyes flashed with anger at her sister’s shameless and immature theatrics to frame her.
Everyone in the living room turned around just in time to see Gwen falling backwards. She crashed onto the luxurious glass stool behind her, hitting the side of her head on the jagged edges of the broken glass stool – leading to severe lacerations on the side of her head and her left arm.
“Jesus! Gwen!” Jerry screeched as he sprinted across the room to meet his lover, almost colliding with Amelia if the latter hadn’t suddenly moved to the side.
“My baby.” Regina, closely followed by her sister, husband and brother-in-law, alongside Jerry’s parent rushed over to Gwen’s side.
“What has this evil child done again?” Nana Shawls sighed out loud, shaking her head from side to side. She remained seated, exhausted from all the shouting.
Gwen who hadn’t bargained for this level of pain kept screaming in horror as fresh blood oozed from her bruised head and arm, colouring her blond silky hair and her light pink dress, red.
“What have you done?” Jerry scowled briefly at Amelia before returning his trembling gaze to his lover.
“The nerves!” Amelia clenched her fist as she watched Jerry, – who was supposed to be apologizing to her for his crime, – kneel beside Gwen and scoop her into his arms like a priceless treasure while applying pressure to her bleeding head.
“Baby… It’s okay, I’m here. Deep breath.”
Jerry’s attempts at soothing Gwen only added more fuel to Amelia’s consuming fire. She felt like smashing his head into a wall.
“You disgust me, Jerry. “Amelia’s voice was cold and grating. “You are nothing but a scum of the earth and…”
“Shut up, Amelia.” Jerry snapped his head towards her, his eyes dangerous and narrowed. “If you hadn’t run away I wouldn’t have been with your sister. Everything happening is all your fault and you are to be blamed.”
Amelia felt the sting of Jerry’s words hit her in the face.
“Amelia, is that true?” Jerry’s mother came up to her from the nack, her gaze alarmed even after Jerry had enlightened them with his lies.
“Why don’t you ask your son?” Amelia said bitterly shifting away from his parents.
“You make me sick, Jerry.” Stacy spat out, anger bubbling through her veins.
“That makes two of us.” Jerry retorted before turning his face to Gwen.
“What happened to Gwen?” Nana Shawls asked, craning her neck from where she was seated.
“She hurt herself really bad, Mum,” Matt replied, deep creases lining his forehead.
“Someone should call for the ambulance, already.” Nana Shawls said in a desperate tone,
“I have already done that, Mum,” Matt said while he frantically tried to arrest Gwen’s bleeding arm.
Desmond on the other hand rushed out of the sitting room to get help outside.
“Is she alright?” Regina knelt beside her daughter stroking her hair, while crying.

“I have no idea.” Jerry shook his head, as he stared at his blood-covered right hand and the blood on the floor.
Two maids hurried into the living room heads bowed, holding different cleaning tools.
“Don’t just stand there. Get to work.” Pearl snapped at them and they quickly began clearing the sharp glasses on the floor.
“Let me take a look.” Senator Gregory squatted beside his younger daughter and assessed the injury on her head and arm. “The cut isn’t that deep. A few stitches will take care of it.”
“I’m so sorry Dad for disappointing you. I didn’t plan for all of this. All I wanted to do was make you happy and tell my sister that I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to get her more angry.” Gwen shook helplessly in Jerry’s arm.
“It’s okay, dear. Save your energy. The paramedic will soon be here.” Senator Gregory forced a smile, his heart torn between scolding his enraged daughter and trying to make amends with her.
Clenching her fist, Regina slowly stood up and charged towards Amelia.
“Amelia… watch out.” Aunt Judith, who was closest to her quickly pulled her away from the enraged mother’s vicious claws.
“You little witch!” Regina tried to attack Amelia even though she knew Gwen faked the fall. But Judith and Stacy stood their ground, blocking her from reaching Amelia.
“Why don’t you come out and face me, you useless girl?” Regina tried to force her way through Judith and Stacy.
“My niece is not useless.” Judith retorted before Amelia could say anything. “The only useless people I see here are you and your daughter always manipulating everyone. Now if you don’t stay away from my niece, I will be forced to teach you a bitter lesson you will never forget.” Judith warned, wagging her finger in Regina’s face.
“Go ahead, let me see you try.” Regina slapped Judith’s finger off her face. ”
“Will you two stop this bickering and focus on helping Gwen?” Senator Gregory barked at them. “I’ve had enough of all your screaming.”
“Aren’t you going to scold Amelia for pushing her sister?” Regina cried bitterly, scowling at her husband.
“Amelia was the one who pushed Gwen?” Nana Shawls asked eyes widened.
“I didn’t push her.” Amelia spat out, anger bubbling in her voice. “She fell by herself.”
“Liar!” Regina snarled.
“I’m not lying. Dad, you believe me right?” Tears gathered in Amelia’s eyes.
“Why don’t you say the truth, Amelia? We all saw you push her all because you wanted to get even with her for sleeping with Jerry.” Pearl snapped at Amelia, wishing there was a way she could go over to her and beat the crap out of her.
“I don’t have to prove anything to you, worthless wretch.” Amelia came forward, her dangerous aura and her cold glares forcing Pearl to take some steps backwards.
“Enough, Amelia.” Senator Gregory boomed, making Amelia flinch slightly. “Irrespective of what happened, Gwen is still your sister. I will not tolerate this kind of hostility in my home.”
A sly glint flashed across Gwen’s eyes as she watched Amelia’s boldness crumble under their father’s intense gaze.
A single tear drop escaped Amelia’s reddened eyes.
“I’m not surprised that you doubt me, Dad. After everything that has happened in the last two weeks, I shouldn’t have expected anything from you.” She turned around and left for her bedroom, ignoring all her father’s desperate calls.
“Fiona will be highly disappointed in you, Greg. You should know Amelia would never lie to you.” Judith hissed as she followed after her niece, with Stacy tagging along.
“It hurts!” Gwen cried out, reverting her father’s attention back to her.
“Gwen!” Regina rushed back to her daughter’s side.
“The ambulance is here.” Desmond rushed into the room with some paramedic, who quickly arrested the bleeding before carrying Gwen on a stretcher out of the house, with Jerry and his troubled parents tagging behind.
“My love, aren’t you coming along?” Regina stretched her right hand towards her husband.
Senator Gregory watched as everyone except his mother left with Gwen. He sighed and said.
“Go, I will join you later.”
“But Gwen needs her father by her side.” Regina lamented.
“I said, go. I will join you later.” Senator Gregory turned his back and slowly climbed upstairs.
Gritting her teeth, Regina rushed out of the mansion to meet her brother-in-law. “Matt, I need you to stay back and monitor your brother and that brat, while I escort Gwen to the hospital. I need to know their every move.”
“Okay.”
