Chapter 28: I Want A Divorce.
Amelia was halfway done, addressing her management team when Jerry and Gwen both shamelessly made their way into the conference room commanding their usual forced attention and respect.
They both took their seats at the far end of the table seeing that every other seat in front was occupied.
In an attempt to keep her staff from witnessing any drama with the audacious pair, Amelia quickly rounded up with the meeting.
“All right, thank you all for this brief brainstorming session. You may all return to your various departments.” Amelia said, satisfied with her achievement so far.
The scraping of seats closely followed by the shuffling of feet and amused whispers filled the conference room as the men and women of the LiLa Savvy management team slowly made their way out of the room.
“Ma’am, would you be needing anything else?” Rebecca, Amelia’s reinstated secretary asked, worried about leaving her boss alone with her heartless husband and stepsister.
Amelia smiled genuinely at Rebecca’s unspoken intent.
“Don’t trouble yourself, Rebecca. I can handle myself very well. Just schedule my meetings for today and send them to my email. I’ll be in the office shortly.”
“Yes ma’am.” Rebecca picked up the reviewed folders on the table and slowly made her way to the exit.
“Take a look at what the cat dragged in.” Gwen snickered as she gestured at the approaching secretary with her eyes.
“Good morning, sir.” Rebecca smiled through her teeth as she passed by the heartless acting CEO who fired her some days ago simply because his mistress didn’t find her appealing.
“I can see you’re back,” Jerry replied coldly without sparing her a glance.
“Yes sir, all thanks to my boss, the CEO.” Rebecca grinned like an evil clown on a mission as she left the room and shut the door behind her without acknowledging Gwen’s presence.
“How I hate that revolting pig.” Gwen hissed returning her gaze to her stepsister, who was at the far end of the table.
“I think I should speak with her first so that you can have your privacy,” Gwen suggested to Jerry as she stood up.
“That sounds like a great idea.” Jerry remained seated, surfing through the internet and keeping himself abreast with the latest trending news about his supposed wife.
Having reinstated most of the old and loyal staff and issued an immediate job termination to all the newly employed and compromising staff, Amelia was finally ready to set the records straight with the cheating and manipulative duo. She remained seated at the head of the oval table, focusing her attention on her laptop screen, going through some of the company account ledgers as Gwen slowly advanced towards her.
Wearing a plastic smile on her face, Gwen cooed sweetly like a harmless bird.
“Good morning, sis.”
She pulled out a chair on Amelia’s right-hand side and sat down gracefully.
“Morning.” Amelia maintained a formal and professional tone.
“We missed you last night at home, especially Dad.”
“I’m sure you all did.” Amelia continued working on her laptop without making eye contact with Gwen.
“So where did you spend the night? At the hotel, at Judith’s place or at the house of your new boyfriend who has been spending lavishly on you.” Gwen asked surfing for information in the most annoying manner.
“That will be none of your business,” Amelia said curtly. “I’ve been going through your operations in the company since my absence and it seems you have been making huge withdrawals without a single production or promotion of the brand’s product. Currently, you have led the company into an indebtedness of over fifty million dollars.”
“That’s chicken change to you, Sis.” Gwen said nonchalantly admiring her glossy red manicured nails. “Moreover, I’ve not been the one signing the release of funds. It’s your signature on all those transfer instructions. Probably you squandered the money having so much fun in Coralis island. Who knows?”
“Hmm…” Amelia finally looked up, an unreadable smile framing her face “Probably. But what I do not understand is how you were able to twist Jerry’s arms into making you the chief operating officer – a role you not only lack the required qualification but also the operational capability. You must have f**ked his brain really hard for him to throw away an exceptional man like Williams.”
“You have no idea.” Gwen sensually moistened her lips, unperturbed to show her other side since there was no one listening or watching. “He couldn’t stop telling me how boring you were as we took different positions on your matrimonial bed. I was…”
“Let’s cut the chase since I’m a very busy woman.” Amelia cut her off, her gaze cold and devoid of emotions. “I want you out of this company and as far away from me as possible.”

“That is impossible sister since we share the same family and the same man.” Gwen smacked her lips, glancing in Jerry’s direction. But his head seemed buried in his phone, ruining her opportunity to taunt Amelia further.
“Well for that piece of jerk which happens to be my leftover, you can have him when I’m done with him.” Amelia returned her gaze to her laptop.
“I’m not leaving until you return the things you shamelessly stole from my room.” Gwen spat out between clenched teeth.
“Stole?” Amelia lifted her eyes from the screen, a glint of mockery flashing across her brimming eyes. “I see a joke coming along.” She chuckled softly, leaning back on her seat and folding her arms across her chest.
“Isn’t that word such a cliche coming from a shameless b*tch who not only stole her sister’s man but forged her sister’s signature to claim her sister’s inheritance. As if stealing my inheritance and my personality wasn’t enough, you were still planning to sell off my company. So I ask, why? Why are you so desperate to be me or rather to take everything away from me? Did I ever offend you in your formal life?”
Gwen chuckled bitterly.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about sister. Because the last time I checked, you were the one married to Jerry Morgan and not me. You are the one who signed along with your husband, liquidating your trust fund and not me. You were the one who disposed of your inheritance and not me. You are Mrs Amelia Shawls Morgan and I’m simply miss Gwen Shawls. Does that ring a bell?”
Amelia took one long look at Gwen, her heart filled with so much hate and rage to destroy this young lady whose mind was as poisonous as a lethal snake’s venom. She exhaled slowly and said.
“You may leave.”
“Not without my laptop and other stuff you took.”
Amelia resumed working on her device. “You will get them when I’m done with them. In the meantime, your desk has been cleared and your things alongside your job termination letter are waiting for you downstairs at the reception.”
“I will not leave without my laptop.” Gwen reaffirmed.
“And if I say no, what would you do? Cry me a river or report me to Dad?”
“I won’t give you that satisfaction. But I do know how much you care about your public image. You do not want me to make a scene in your company.” Gwen’s face reddened like an overripe tomato that was about to pop.
“By all means do entertain yourself,” Amelia said softly. “I’m sure a lot of people including me will be anxious to watch your theatrics.”
Gwen clenched her fist, her eyes looking up to the camera inside the conference room. She knew she was being watched and Amelia’s scary-looking bodyguards were outside the room. In here, she was powerless even with Jerry seated not far from her. But outside the walls of this company, she knew the right buttons to press to deal with her annoying stepsister.
“Amelia…”
“Zip it.” Amelia sat up, her humour disappearing in an instant as if it was never there. Her gaze turned frosty and her words sent a chill running down Gwen’s spine.
Jerry who had been trying to redeem his image by replying to some messages on his Instagram page was startled by Amelia’s piercing voice.
“You have ten seconds to get up and get out of this room.” Amelia picked up a ball pen by the side of her laptop, her murderous gaze forcing Gwen to her feet. “10, 9, 8…”
Gwen couldn’t tell which of the demons had suddenly possessed her stepsister, as she hurriedly picked up her handbag and moved away from Amelia.
“Gwen…” Jerry came up to her.
“She has obviously lost her mind and I think we should leave,” Gwen said in a trembling voice as she took hold of Jerry’s wrist.
Jerry’s gaze shifted to Amelia who was still counting down, her hands on the intercom.
“Go, I’ll talk to her.” He freed his wrist from Gwen’s hold and watched her leave the conference room in a hurry.
Turning his soft gaze to Amelia, he slowly made his way to her.
Amelia took in a deep breath trying her best to calm the rage swirling in her heart.
She didn’t wait for Jerry to speak as she said dryly.
“I want a divorce from the sham marriage.”
