Chapter 294: Let Me Be Your Bodyguard.
Henry listened with genuine concern as Sarah confided in him about her abduction phobia and how it had negatively affected her emotional stability.
He already knew about the story behind her kidnap and about her secret therapy session to overcome her fears.
He also knew that ever since that incident, she had been very reclusive, keeping mostly to herself and her family.
He was hoping to bring her out of her shell and help her trust people again. But he wasn’t about to lose her to this persistent Sebastian, who was beginning to irk him to the bone.
“I’m sorry, I wasn’t there to take care of you when you fainted.” Henry placed her phone into her hand, holding her twinkling gaze. “I’m glad someone was there to take you to the hospital. But I promise henceforth, it will be just me taking care of you and no one else.”
Sarah raised a brow, slightly amused by the hint of jealousy lacing Henry’s tone.
“Are you planning on becoming my bodyguard?”
“If that is what it takes to make sure you are always safe and happy, then I wouldn’t mind one bit. I’m ready to be your bodyguard.”
“You’re so funny.” Sarah stood up. “Is quite late. I have to go home.”
“Okay.” Henry also stood up, helping her pick up her gift bag. “I’ll take you home.”
“Don’t worry, Michael will do that.” Sarah smiled, tucking her loose hair behind her ear as the wind slowly blew her soft blonde coils into her face.
“Michael…” Henry’s forehead was etched with surprise. “As in your brother?”
“Yep.” Sarah nodded, and at the same time, Michael, who had already gotten her signal from where he was seated and watching them, came into view.
“Hello, Mr Gordon.” Michael came forward his right hand extended towards Henry.
“Just call me Henry.” He shook Michael’s hand firmly. “It’s nice to see you again.”
“Same here.” Michael grinned.
“Have you been watching us the whole time?”
“I hope you don’t mind,” Michael said apologetically. “I had to make sure my sister is alright, especially after what happened earlier today.”
“Sure. Who wouldn’t want to protect such a priceless jewel? I was even asking your sister if she could employ me as her bodyguard, free of charge. I know Taekwondo, and I gym a lot.” Henry showed off his muscles animatedly.
“Like seriously!” Sarah rolled her eyes at Henry, laughing.
“That isn’t a bad idea at all. I’m sure you’ll make one awesome bodyguard. With you around my sister, no one would dare mess with her.” Michael said, wiggling his brow at Sarah, who shot him a nasty glare.
“You are such a talkative. Did I tell you I needed a bodyguard? Please, let’s just go before mom starts calling.”
Sarah clicked her tongue at her brother, as she collected the gift bag from Henry. She felt so happy being amid these two gentlemen who were cracking her ribs.
“Thanks for your company tonight and the gift. I really had a great time talking to you.” Sarah said softly, avoiding Henry’s intense gaze.
“Me too. I’ll see you tomorrow at school.”
“Sure.” Sarah was blushing so hard with her brother staring and Henry standing so close to her.
“Good night.”
“Let me walk you to your car at least.” Henry offered not ready to let her go.
“There’s no need for that. Bye.”
“Come on Sarah, put the young man out of his misery and give him a hug. He won’t bite. At least not while I’m here.”

Sarah snapped her gaze sideways, her eyes shooting daggers at Michael.
“It’s fine.” Henry quickly intervened, not wanting to be too pushy. “I’ll see you…” He had barely completed his statement when Sarah suddenly embraced him briefly.
“Sweet dreams,” Sarah whispered and hurried away to her brother, her head lowered in embarrassment.
Henry stood hypnotised for a few seconds, heat and cold running down his spine. He could still feel her arms wrapped around him even though she was already leaving with her brother.
“Sweet dreams.” He whispered back, his smile widening as he watched both siblings disappear into the shadows, their laughter echoing into the night.

Gwen’s chubby face was swollen and reddened like an overripe tomato about to rupture as she listened to her father lash out angrily at her.
“I thought you gave me your word, Gwen.” Senator Gregory demanded steely, his entire feature looking so stiff from rage.
“You promised me you wouldn’t cause any more trouble. What has suddenly gotten into you? Why are you trying to stick your nose where it doesn’t belong? This house has been functioning perfectly fine ever since you’ve been away. What makes you think you can come in and make those brainless changes without consulting me? Is there something you’re trying to say to me?”
Gwen remained silent, arms folded across her chest and her head turned sideways, tears of fury streaming down her reddened face.
Senator Gregory inhaled and exhaled to release his tension, massaging his aching forehead.
“I’m trying my best, Gwen. I’m trying to be a good father to you despite what you and the others did to your sister. I am trying to tolerate your excesses. Don’t think for a second that I have forgotten the past. I will not let you come in here and disrupt things again. If you do not feel comfortable staying in this mansion any longer, let me know. I will gladly rent an accommodation for you.”
Gwen slowly lifted her head to look into her father’s angry eyes.
“You want me out of this mansion?”
“I haven’t said that.” Senator Gregory snapped angrily at her. “Nevertheless, if you know you cannot tolerate the mansion workers or Sam, it will be better for you to live elsewhere than cause any more trouble. I won’t have you interfering in the job of the mansion staff or my security ever again.”
“Fine!” Gwen stood up wiping her streaming tears with the back of her hand. “I will go if you want me to leave. You don’t have to pretend like you love me or care about me.”
Gwen slowly walked towards the door expecting her father to stop her and cuddle her in his arms like before.
Sadly, he didn’t move a muscle to stop her. Rather, he gave her a strict choice that almost caused her to choke on her tears.
“You have until tomorrow to decide if you want to live here or somewhere else. Also, you have forty-eight hours to decide what you want to do with the rest of your life. I won’t have you moping around this mansion, doing nothing but eating and lazing around. It is time for you to be responsible for yourself.”
“Maybe I should just die like my unborn child,” Gwen screamed at her father and ran out of his office, crying her heart out.
By the following morning, Gwen woke up very early before her father and grandmother got out of bed. She showered and got dressed in a dark grey tracksuit and face cap.
She was determined to lose some pounds and get in shape. She also wanted to get as far away as possible from the mansion to clear her head and decide on her next plan of action.
After getting ready in her running shoes, she got some cash from her drawer, leaving her newly acquired phone behind intentionally.
She left the mansion on foot, without acknowledging the servants greeting her or the polite security guard at the main gate, who were trying to get information out of her. She left the peaceful estate, making her way towards the main street.
One hour later, Gwen arrived at a gym house located in the suburb of the town.
At the entrance to the gym house was a petite, red-haired pregnant woman waiting for her. They both embrace like blood sisters who hadn’t seen themselves for a decade before disappearing into the building.

After a healthy breakfast with her mother-in-law and Henry, Amelia was getting ready to leave the house when she got an unexpected call from her dad, asking if Gwen had tried to contact her.
“Why would she want to contact me, Dad? What business do I have with her? Do I look like her guidance?” Amelia’s nose flared with indignation, her voice bitter and cold.
After learning that Matt and his allies were behind every misfortune in her life, especially the most recent attempted assassination, Amelia developed a caustic hatred for him and everything associated with him, including Gwen. She couldn’t care less at the moment if Gwen jumped off a tall building.
“You don’t have to be sarcastic about this, Amelia.” The senator’s voice sounded strained and tired. “I’m simply asking because Gwen just left the mansion a few hours earlier without telling anyone where she was going.”
“Why don’t you call her on her cell phone? I believe she has one.” Amelia rolled her eyes, hissing.
“That’s the problem. She didn’t leave with her mobile phone.”
Amelia gritted her teeth to stifle a curse word from escaping her lips.
“Dad, I’m running late for work. I have important things to handle. Gwen is not my priority neither is she a child. She is a full-grown woman capable of handling herself. Stop overworking yourself because of her. Go about your business and let her do her thing. If she gets into trouble again, then let her face the consequences.”
Amelia listened to her father sigh before thanking her and ending the call.
