Chapter 307: Failed Mission
Nora strolled into the Viva life clinic exactly one hour before Amelia’s anticipated arrival, adorned in a pink polka dot maternity dress. She gracefully made her way to the hospital reception desk, smiling sweetly like a harmless butterfly, instantly captivating the receptionist nurse on duty.

“Hello.”

“Good day, madam.” The excited female nurse recognized her as the crying, beautiful red-haired lady from yesterday. “You’re welcome to Viva Life clinic. I trust you are feeling better, today.”

“Yes, I am. Thank you for asking” Nora maintained her impeccable smile. “How is the lady from yesterday? I hope she made it.”

“Thankfully she did, ma’am.”

“Oh…thank goodness.” Nora clasped her hands pretending to be overjoyed. “I couldn’t sleep well last night thinking about her. I’m so glad she pulled through it.”

“Me too. So how may I help you today ma’am? You said something about registering for your antenatal yesterday.”

“Yes, and please, can you stop calling me ma’am? It makes me feel so old. Vede will be just fine.” Nora grinned while suppressing the urge to scoff.

“I’m sorry ma’am… I mean Mrs…”

“Just, Vede.” Nora cut the nurse off, the word Mrs irking her to the bone.

“My apologies…Vede. So about the registration…”

“Yes… I would like to see one of your best doctors after the registration process is completed. Preferably, Dr Vanessa.”

“Okay, Vede. .” The nurse picked up a form and a pen from her desk. “Please read and fill out this form. If you have any questions concerning the process, feel free to ask.”

“Thank you.” Nora collected the form and filled in her false details before handing it over.

“Just give me a few minutes to input this information into my system. But in the meantime, you can go over to the cash point to make payment for your registration fee.”

“Okay.”

Thirty minutes later, Nora was taken to the consultation reception room, where two pregnant women were patiently waiting to see the consulting doctors.

“Miss Vede, it looks like Doctor Vanessa is currently busy.” The new female nurse, Nora, was handed over to explained calmly. “However if you’re unable to wait, you can opt to see other doctors who…”

“I’ll wait. Thanks.” Nora replied politely, forcing a smile while scowling in her heart. It was just a few minutes before Amelia’s 2:00 PM appointment, and she believed Dr Vanessa would show up within that time frame.

“Very well. If you need me, I’ll be in that office.” The nurse pointed to her office before leaving.

“Hello, beautiful. Is this your first?” One of the mature-looking pregnant women asked, assessing Nora’s captivating appearance.

“Yes, excuse me…” Nora raised her phone to her ear pretending to take a call even though no one was calling her. She wasn’t about to be interrogated by either of these repulsive-looking pregnant women, and neither was she about to blow her cover by acting all rude.

Twenty minutes passed and one of the pregnant women got called into consulting room number two while the other waited patiently. Yet there was no sign of Amelia.

“Maybe she’s been held up in traffic or work,” Nora muttered under her breath, trying her best to remain calm.

However, after another forty-five minutes passed without Amelia showing up, Nora knew something was wrong. She stood up and approached the nurse on duty.

“Hello again…” Nora smiled through her teeth. “Is Dr Vanessa back?”

“I’m afraid not, miss Vede.” The nurse said apologetically. “Do you want me to take you to see another doctor?”

“How long before she returns?” Nora’s wall of temperance and patience began to crack.

“I can’t say for sure, miss Vede.”

“Is she, by any chance, attending to another pregnant woman somewhere else?” Nora asked, fishing for information.

“I’m afraid I can answer that question, Miss Vede”

Nora’s nose flared, and her jaw clenched.

“Can you at least tell me if she’s within the facility so that I don’t waste my time here waiting in vain?”

“I’m not preview to that information, miss Vede.”

“Why don’t you call and find out?” Nora snapped angrily, her hormones instigating her ire.

“Okay.” The nurse picked up her intercom and spoke briefly on the phone before relaying Dr Vanessa’s secretary’s response.

“It appears Dr Vanessa might not be available in the next two to three hours. We can either reschedule you for another visit or you can see one of our…”

“Enough with that suggestion already,” Nora yelled at the nurse, her hands itching by her side to slap the annoying nurse. “You should have told me that Dr Vanessa won’t be available from the very beginning instead of wasting my precious time.”

The nurse abruptly stood up to pacify the angry pregnant woman.

“I’m very sorry…”

“Sorry for yourself, you incompetent fool.” Nora hissed and stormed out of the consultation reception room without answering the doctors who had come out to plead with her.

Outside the hospital and in the comfort of her car, Nora was seething with rage as she updated her partner on the failed mission, unaware that she was been watched and listened to.

Gwen stopped briefly by Harriet’s salon to familiarize herself with the staff before heading for the bank to make some necessary transactions.

Upon arrival at Zen Bank International, Gwen proudly made her way into the brightly and well-lit premises, oozing with a blend of relaxing fruity air freshener and crispy mint.

The atmosphere in the banking hall was a blend of formality and slight anxiety, varying from the quiet hum of computers to the chatter of customers waiting in queue.

The visual display of logos, brand colours, and calming art created a sense of trust and professionalism within the business environment.

Ignoring the slightly long queue of customers waiting to be attended to, Gwen proudly strutted to the operation manager’s office, expecting nothing less than an exceptional service delivery.

She was barely halfway up the stairs when she spotted a familiar face climbing down majestically.

Decked in a dark grey well, tailored, crisp, and flattering suit that perfectly complimented his sturdy physique – enhancing his attractiveness – was the same man who had once flirted with Amelia and insulted Blaze at a fashion show.
