Chapter 39: Charmed
All this while, Pascal and Lance were completely shocked to see the way Blaze was treating Amelia like a little princess. What happened to the cold-hearted and ruthless Blaze Anderson who didn’t care about anyone aside from his family? Was he developing a soft spot for his enemy’s daughter?
Except for her occasional sniffle, the atmosphere in the car remained silent and a bit awkward until they arrived at their destination.
When Blaze climbed out of the car still carrying Amelia in his arms, he took her into the house, holding her handbag, a sight her bodyguards saw amusing.
Sebastian, a mature man in his early fifties and the head servant of the villa was already waiting at the door to receive them.
“Good evening, Mr Anderson. Good evening ma’am.”
“Ask the chef to fix Miss Shawls something light for dinner,” Blaze said in a deadpan voice as he walked past the troubled man, heading straight for the stairs.
“Yes, sir,” Sebastian replied as he shut the door while staring at his employer’s disappearing figure.
“What could have gone wrong and why is the madam looking all sad?” Sebastian queried his thoughts as he hurried towards the kitchen to get the chef.
When they were finally alone and behind closed doors inside her bedroom, Blaze strode over to the bed. But instead of placing Amelia on the bed like she hoped for, he sat down still holding her in his arms.
“Amelia…” he called softly lifting her chin up with two of his fingers and staring into her hurt eyes which were tilted sideways. “What is the matter?”
Amelia shook her head, more tears streaming down her temple.
“Then why the hell are you crying?” A hint of annoyance laced his soft but deep voice.
“…”
Feeling slightly guilty, Blaze asked. “Is it because of the way I kissed you? Did I hurt you?”
Amelia shook her head, irritated by her own tears. She couldn’t explain what was going on in her mind. But she felt like a complete mess at the moment.
Sensing that she wasn’t in the mood to bear her heart out to him, Blaze changed tactics to stop her from crying.
“I think you should get out of these clothes and take a cold shower.”
This time around, Amelia nodded her head at a chance to get away from this man who was suffocating her with his closeness.
“Do you want me to help you take off your clothes?”
Amelia finally looked at him, an alarm in her eyes. She made a move to stand up from his lap but Blaze held her in place, a mischievous grin playing at the corner of his eyes.
“Not so fast sweetheart,” Blaze said in a cocky voice. “You are still too weak to stand on your own and we have an unfinished business.” He said stroking her exposed thigh.
“Blaze, stop!” Amelia slapped his hands off her while turning her face away from his worried that her breath might be bad after vomiting.
“Why? Don’t tell me you are shy all of a sudden, my little wild fox.”
Blaze’s husky warm breath on the side of her neck, made Amelia’s body stiffen. She pushed herself up with all her might, staggering a little and spoke in a more composed voice.
“I need to brush and have a bath.”
“oh…” Blaze got the idea. “…and afterwards…” he drawled leaning back and drinking in her beauty.
“Sleep!” Amelia rolled her eyes at him, taking an uneven but hurried step towards the bathroom door.
“Sure, we can sleep together?” Blaze smiled to himself without looking at the dangerous scowl on her face.
“In your dreams.” Amelia got into the bathroom and slammed the door shut.

By the time she came out all cleaned up and changed into her nightwear, Blaze was gone. But he left a note beside a tray of appetizing food placed on the table beside her bed.
Slightly disappointed, she picked up the note and read it out.
[I’ll see you in the morning, my little wild fox. Take the tablet beside your food after eating and rest. No more wild partying and getting drunk.]
An infectious smile slowly curled up Amelia’s lips as she put the note aside, her heart beating for this eccentric but charming young man.

“I can’t believe you approved of her divorce Greg,” Regina yelled at her husband the minute he stepped into the house, completely exhausted from a very busy day at work.
“Gina, please not now.” Senator Greg handed over his briefcase to the butler who bowed respectfully and left. “We can talk about this tomorrow. It is late and I am very exhausted.”
“No, we have to talk about it now. Are you aware of what people are saying behind our backs? Gwen and Jerry are been shredded out there while your ungrateful daughter parties with her friend.” Regina said following him into the living room.
“Gina, I said not now!” Senator Gregory barked, regretting why he didn’t stay back at the office a little longer.
“Yes. Go ahead and shout at me. That is the only thing you are good at. But I’m not going to let you ruin this family because of that your ungrateful daughter.”
The senator ignored his nagging wife as he climbed up the stairs, grateful that his mother had gone to bed or so he thought.
“Greg…”
The senator looked to his left-hand side as he reached the top landing area of the stairs.
“Mom!” A frown etched on his face. “I thought you had gone to bed.”
“How can when my first son’s house is on fire.” The old woman said in a broken voice. “Please come with me to my bedroom. I need to speak with you alone.”
The senator massaged his forehead in frustration. “Can’t it be till tomorrow?”
“No! It can’t.” Nana Shawls led the way, while her first son followed slightly happy to be away from his nagging wife.
Finally seated on her bed with her first son seated opposite her on the divan, Nana Shawls went straight to the point.
“Roughly twenty-four years ago, you brought a certain egocentric and mannerless young lady into my home claiming you were in love.”
Senator Gregory released a frustrated sigh. “Mom, can we not go to that topic? Fiona is dead. Please let her rest in …”
“Do not interrupt me again, young man.” Nana Shawls said sharply, cutting the senator off.
“Fine.”
“You married that young lady against my wishes and you had a daughter. Not long after, you discovered you had made a mistake and ended up impregnating another woman, bringing home an illegitimate daughter and staining our family’s name.”
“And your point is?” The senator was about to lose his cool.
“My point is that you are not only a pig-headed son but a weak father. I gave you an instruction back then and you disregarded it leading to the death of your so-called wife.”
Senator Gregory’s fist clenched.
“And now I gave you another instruction to ensure the sanity of this family. Yet you flouted it a second time approving of your daughter’s divorce behind my back. You even went as far as suggesting that Gwen should marry Jerry.”
“But mum…”
“Let this be a warning to you from mother to son.” Nana Shawl didn’t give him any room to speak or defend his daughter. “If anything goes wrong based on this decision of yours, do not come crying to me like you did in the past. You are on your own.”
