Chapter 41: Charmed 1
Approximately one hundred and sixty kilometres drive from Salvine City, was a revamped modern motel called the Good Fellas. It was an ubiquitous structure designed for weary travelers to rest after a long day on the road.
The Good Fellas also happened to be a secret and coded meeting place for all sorts of criminal-minded people.
Deals were struck under the cover of legal hotel practices and in the event of a murder or assassination, the bodies of the victims were carefully disposed of leaving no trail behind.
After lodging for a whole night at the Good Fellas motel chasing his family’s ghost to no avail, Jerry Morgan left the hotel premises, looking a bit depressed. He drove for another fifty miles, heading towards Salvine city when a call entered his phone. He picked up the phone and his gaze darkened when it fell on the caller’s name.
Pulling over by the roadside, he received the call and spoke in the softest and sexiest voice.
“Hello, sweetheart.”
“Jerry, where the hell are you?” Gwen’s irritated voice rang in his ears.
“Why, are you missing me?” Jerry asked calmly, his blue eyes taking a more darker and dangerous shade.
“I just arrived at your place and I am told you haven’t been back since yesterday. Where the hell have you been? Are you cheating on me with some other girl? Is that why I couldn’t reach you all through the night?”
Jerry’s grip around the stirring wheel tightened. He inhaled sharply to prevent himself from saying something nasty that would cost him years of hard work.
Taking a deep breath to stifle the ravaging storm within him, he spoke more calmly.
“How could you say such hurtful things, my love after everything I have been through at the hands of your sister? You know I can never cheat on you. We are a team and you are the only girl I love. I simply traveled out of town to take care of some important business. I’m on my way home as we speak.”
There was a short pause followed by a defeated sigh before Gwen apologized.
“I’m sorry, my love. I didn’t mean any of those things I said. I’m just angry and frustrated at everything happening. Everyone is talking ill of me, calling me all sorts of demeaning names. That tramp has succeeded in ruining us and I can’t take it anymore.”
“Don’t worry. Everything will go back to normal once we make our union formal. We could even get married today if you want.”
“Really!” Gwen said in a thrilled voice.
“Yes, sweetheart. Once we become a couple and show the world how crazy we are about each other, then they will stop talking.”
“Then let’s go to the civil affairs and formalized things this morning. I want to officially become Mrs Gwen Morgan.”
“Brilliant. I will be with you in less than an hour, baby. Keep the bed warm for me.” Jerry blew kisses to her before ending the call, his lips curled up in a devilish grin.

Sprawled on her soft bed with one hand dangling from the edge, Amelia fluttered her lashes severally as the streaming morning sun from the partly opened curtains fell on her face. She rolled over to her back and stretched on the bed, yawning, unaware of the amused pair of grey eyes watching her.
She lazily sat up on the bed, her messy hair looking like someone who had entered a cat fight. She rubbed his sleepy eyes and tilted her head to the right to get her phone when she saw him.
“Holy shit!” Amelia shrieked. She pulled the duvet to cover her partially exposed body. “What the hell is wrong with you? Are you trying to give me a heart attack?”
“Maybe,” Blaze said in a relaxed tone, his amused gaze locked on hers.
“This isn’t funny.” Amelia reprimanded in a stern tone while ensuring that her body was perfectly covered from his spying eyes.
“You had better gotten used to my presence around you. In less than two hours, we will be husband and wife.”
“On paper.” Amelia snarled at him, anger seeping through her tone at the intrusion. “What do you want and why are you in my bedroom this early?”
“Isn’t it obvious?” Blaze asked, standing up and taking off his jacket. “I’ve been waiting for my wife to wake up for the past two hours.”

Amelia scoffed. “We are not married yet.”
“But we will be after you are done signing this.” He picked up a red folder from the small coffee table in the room and sauntered to her bedside.
“What is that?” She eyed the folder suspiciously.
“What do you think it is, wifey?” Blaze sat down on her bed, causing her to shift further away from him.
“Stop calling me that.” Amelia snapped at him irritably.
Blaze chuckled, unfazed by Amelia’s nasty attitude. “In here lies my terms and conditions for us to be a couple.”
Amelia could feel her heart pounding like a drum in her chest as she received the folder from him with trembling her. She observed the way Blaze’s eyes sparkled with something mischievous as he stared at her.
“Excuse me when I use the bathroom.” She hurriedly rolled out from the other side of the bed, acting as though Blaze was about to take advantage of her. But to her surprise and relief, he remained seated like someone who had no use of his precious time.
“I’ll be waiting. But have it at the back of your mind that we have an appointment with the civil affairs bureau by 9:00 AM”
“I won’t be long.” Amelia rushed into her wardrobe and picked up some clothes before hurrying into her bathroom.
Fifteen minutes later, she was out, looking pretty and elegant in a flowery patterned flare dress. She quickly styled her hair in a low bun, holding her loose hair in place with a beautiful butterfly hairpin. She applied minimal makeup and wore simple jewelry, all of this transforming her into an adorable princess.
All this while, Blaze sat still, his eye brimming with admiration and something else he hadn’t quite figured out. But he was very sure of one thing. Amelia was definitely going to steal his mother’s heart.
