Chapter 44: False Profession Of Love
“Amelia!” Gwen called in a surprised tone, pulling Jerry’s distant attention to the eyesore before them.
Her somewhat high-pitched voice attracted the attention of some other couples who were coming out of the civil affairs bureau building. They also stopped upon recognising the controversial lady, whose name had been making waves on the social media site for the past three days.
“Isn’t that Amelia Shawls?” A Pettit lady with cute bangs cried in a thrilled voice.
“Yes…she is the one.” The lady’s husband replied, eyes glimmering with admiration for the pretty and sophisticated lady. “What is she doing here with those hefty-looking bodyguards.”
“Probably to beat up her step-sister who is currently beside her ex-husband.” The lady pointed at Gwen and Jerry. “They were the ones who signed their marriage certificate before us.”
“Oh no…”
“Oh yes…this is going to be fun.
Both partners as well as a few other people brought out their phones ready to capture the next sibling rivalry drama.
Gwen and Jerry both approached Amelia cautiously, stopping four metres away from her.
“What are you doing here?” Gwen asked, forcing a smile that didn’t get to her throat.
“And how is that any of your bloody business?” Amelia replied in a plastic voice, suppressing the anger bubbling inside of her at the sight of her customised ring on Gwen’s finger.
“Miss Shawls, can we….”
“Not now, Pascal.” Amelia cut him off, her gaze fixed on her stepsister and ex-husband.
Jerry, who was shamelessly drinking in the beauty of his ex was the first to spot the impressively large pink diamond on her finger. His jaws dropped, almost hitting the ground with shock. But he quickly recovered from the shock when Gwen nudged him in the arm, mistaking his shock for lust.
“Hello, Amelia.” Jerry forced himself to say even though he was steaming inwardly like a pressure cooker. “What’s a pleasant surprise.”
“Indeed. Aren’t you too both a sight for sore eyes?” Amelia sneered. “How is the nose?”
Jerry gritted his teeth.
“Amy, don’t tell me you are still mad after Jerry divorced you to be with me. I’m so sorry he chose me over you. As a sister, I can feel your pain and I understand your media stunt. You can’t blame the heart on who it chooses to love. I’m sure in time you’ll find someone who would love you the way Jerry loves me.”
Gwen tightened her hold on Jerry while batting her long lashes like a doll, unafraid of the silently growling bulldogs behind her stepsister.
“Point of correction, Gwen. I divorced the cheating scum so that you can eat from my leftover without hiding your face in shame. Secondly, I would rather be caught dead under a train than have someone love me the way Jerry loves you. And thirdly, I won’t be surprised if tomorrow he’s caught snuggling in the arm of another random girl. Once a jerk, always a jerk. It’s in his DNA.”
Amelia’s calm but effective punch earned her more admiration and applause from the excited spectators who were anticipating a cat fight any time soon.
Jerry’s hands balled into a fist as he tried to remain civil with so many eyes watching. “Amelia, there is no need to call me names. I know you’re still angry because I chose your sister over you. I’m sorry things didn’t work out between us. I couldn’t handle a woman as stiff as you are. I love your sister very much and I will always treat her like a princess that she is.”
“Aww!” Gwen gushed over him, even squeezing out a few tears of happiness as she wrapped her arms around his waist while leaning her head on his chest.
“Did this loser just call me stiff?” Amelia echoed in her heart, a tsunami of fury building in the pit of her stomach.
“Shame on you two!” One of the ladies who knew about Jerry’s infidelity scandal cried out. But Jerry was no longer after those remarks. The satisfaction of watching Amelia’s face redden with jealousy was worth it.
Jerry continued with his false profession of love, in an attempt to reduce Amelia to ashes while second-guessing the bastard who had dared to put a ring on her finger.
“I hope we can let go of our past and work together as one big strong and happy family. Because I finally took your advice and made this official.” He said, lifting the back of Gwen’s hands to his lips and kissing it.
“Amy, we just got married.” Gwen chirped happily, flaunting her marriage certificate in Amelia’s face.
Wild gasps could be heard amongst the little crowd that had gathered. They were all waiting for Amelia to throw all shades of red on the infuriating couple. But to their surprise, she remained calm.

“Congratulations are in order.” Amelia raised her hand clapping for the newlyweds while flaunting his gorgeous diamond ring for everyone to see.
It was at this point Gwen’s greedy eyes fell on the big dazzling rock on her sister’s finger, that made the medium colourless white diamond in her finger feel puny. All the smiles vanished from her face and were replaced with pure anger and jealousy.
“Is that the rare Angelo pink diamond ring on her finger?” Someone from amongst the crowd who has zoomed into the large sparkling rock on Amelia’s finger exclaimed out loud.
“No way!”
“It was auctioned for seventy million dollars.”
“It looks so gorgeous.”
“That is one expensive diamond ring.”
“Oh, how I love rich people.”
“But is she getting remarried?”
“Who is the lucky gentleman.”
“I’m sure he’s extremely wealthy.”
“She is so lucky.”
Different comments filled the air as Amelia took this rare opportunity to relish in her stepsister’s angry face and Jerry’s dangerously brimming eyes.
“You’re getting married? How?” Gwen didn’t know when those words came out of her mouth. But she immediately regretted it as someone responded for Amelia.
“What do you mean how? First, you stole her good-for-nothing husband and now you are jealous that she’s getting remarried. You are such a lousy and greedy home wrecker.”
“Shut your mouth.” Gwen snapped at the lady. “This is a family affair and you all should learn to mind your business.” She pointed threateningly unaware that some people were live-streaming her reaction.
“Pff… family my foot.” Amelia was about to leave when Gwen stopped her.
“I’m not done talking to you.” Gwen snarled losing grip of her emotions.
