Chapter 60: Indirect Insult
Blaze instantly regretted his actions, seeing the look of disgust and disappointment on his mother’s face. He hurriedly stood up, picking some of the table napkins to help clean up some of the mess, starting with wiping off the spilled wine on his mother’s side of the table.
“I’m sorry, Mom,” Blaze said, offering her his handkerchief as she stood up, still glaring at him.
“You should be.” Maria hissed, snatching the white handkerchief and wiping off the stain on her dress.
“I’m sorry too, Mom. I didn’t mean to push him that far. I’m the one to be blamed and not Blaze” Henry also apologized, picking up some serviettes to clean the mess on the table.
“You both are ruffians and you should be apologizing to our guest and not me,” Maria said, looking at Amelia, whose horrid gaze was still transfixed on the table.
Amelia remained frozen, too shocked to notice the oily water on the table flowing towards her direction until it started dropping on her.
“Amelia, please stand up,” Blaze said calmly even though his cold eyes said otherwise.
“I…I… I think I should take my leave now.” Amelia stammered in a trembling voice picking up her handbag.
Blaze shot her a disapproving stare but Maria was quick to intervene and apologize on behalf of her son.
“Amelia, please don’t go.” Maria rushed over to her. She took Amelia’s cold and trembling hands in hers while staring pleadingly into her eyes
“I’m so sorry for having my unruly son and his notorious friend over. I wouldn’t have asked them to come over if I knew they’d behave like children.”
Both Blaze and Henry exchanged stunned glances. But none of them interrupted Maria.
“Please, don’t leave because of them. We were having such a good time before they came and you haven’t even eaten your food. At least stay and enjoy this feast with me. If you want, I can ask both of them to leave right now. ”
Amelia was left speechless at Maria’s words. Was she really joking or will she send her son away for real?
Henry noticing the hesitation on Amelia’s expression added.
“That’s right, Amelia. Just say the word and we will be gone like a puff of cloud. But please, pardon our misbehaviour. Don’t let this ruin your evening.
Amelia fell speechless, her emotions overwhelming and suffocating her until she heard Blaze’s deep voice behind her.
“I’m sorry, Amelia. I can leave if you want.”
“No.” Amelia turned to look at him. “No one has to leave.” She returned her attention to Maria and spoke more confidently.
“I’ll stay a little while longer. I just need to quickly use the convenience.” She forced a smile.
“Splendid. Thank you, my dear.” Maria beamed, releasing her hands.
“Sure.” Amelia briskly walked out of the room to catch her breath. As she was closing the door slowly behind her, she overheard Maria’s stern voice lashing out angrily at both men.
“Such a cool mom.” A smile tugged on Amelia’s lips as she shut the door.
“Ma’am, are we leaving?” Pascal asked, surprised to see Amelia looking a bit shaken with a conspicuous oily stain on her yellow dress.
“No, I just need to quickly use the convenience. I’ll be right back.” Amelia motioned for him to stay put before leaving in the direction of the ladies.
As Pascal watched Amelia disappear into one of the rooms on the opposite hallway, he observed a lady in dark shade climb up the stairs and walk towards the restroom.
Suspicious of the lady’s motive, Pascal decided to tag along.
Inside the convenience, Amelia was in the final process of cleaning off the oil stain on her dress when someone opened the door and strolled in, her pencil heels, clicking sharply on the marble floor.
Amelia raised her face up, staring into the mirror as the strangely familiar-looking lady cladded in an elegant red dress with dark shade strolled past her to the second wash basin.

‘Wow, what a beauty.’ Amelia thought to herself, appreciating the lady’s impressive sense of style. From the side of her eye, she watched the lady slowly open her luxury purse.
The lady, who seemed more focused on her beautiful reflection brought out her customized pepper red lipstick and retouched her lips which were already red and inviting. She smacked her lips noisily making Amelia giggle in a muffled voice.
“Excuse me,” The lady finally whipped her head sideways her beautifully cascading blonde hair almost covering her face. “Did you say….ah…Amelia.” She took off her glasses pretending to be surprised.
“Tina.” Amelia’s eyes widened in shock.
“Oh my goodness!” Tina rushed over to Amelia and threw her arms around the latter in a warm embrace. A conceited scowl appeared on her sweetheart’s face but quickly disappeared when she freed Amelia to look at her tired face.
“It’s good to see.”
“Same here.” Amelia plastered a sweet smile on her face, her heart pounding inside her chest.
“You are one busy girl, you know that?” Tina said, tucking her hair behind her ear to reveal a captivating Jade diamond dangle earring that reflected her mesmerizing green eyes.
“Yeah.” Amelia chuckled, her gaze shifting to the pretty earrings. She thought the earrings were a rare beauty. But she had no intentions of commenting on it, not when Blaze and his mother were waiting for her in their private dining room.
“So what are you doing here?”.
“Taking care of this.” Amelia pointed to the fading stain on her yellow dress.
“No silly.” Tina chuckled softly. “I was referring to this restaurant.”
“Oh, I am dining with a friend,” Amelia said casually, turning her attention to the stain which was almost gone.
“Really! What a strange coincidence. I’m here to dine with a friend too.” Tina chirped happily. “Maybe we can all dine together, you, me and our friends. I promise it’s going to be fun.”
“Umm… I don’t think that will be a wise idea.”
“Why? Or is it because you’re dining with someone special say your husband and you don’t want his identity to be known?”
“Hahaha…very funny.” Amelia was grateful that she had already touched her face before focusing on the stain. She picked up her bag and turned to face Tina. “It was such a pleasure running into you again. I hope you have a great evening.”
“I hope so too,” Tina said beaming, moving ahead of Amelia. “Wish me luck.”
“Wish you luck?” Amelia stared at her quizzically.
“Yes. A little birdie whispered to me that my ex and his mom are here in one of the private VIP dining rooms.”
“Your ex and his mother are here in one of the private dining rooms?” Amelia asked, her jaws dropping.
“Isn’t that great?” Tina cooed like a merry little bird, batting her curly lashes. “Remember I told you and the girls about my plans to win his heart back and marry him, right?”
Amelia nodded, too dazed to form a word.
“Well, that is why I’m here. I’m all dressed up in this lovely red dress that his mom got me on my twentieth birthday, and these priceless diamond earrings that he gave to me on Valentine’s Day.” Tina said proudly, stroking the earring fondly.
“Wow!” Amelia stifled the urge to scoff. If she didn’t know any better, Tina was intentionally rubbing these gestures in her face like a second housewife seeking attention.
“If I’m, to be honest with you, I heard rumors that some random desperate and cheap girl has been throwing herself on his mother, with the hopes of befriending my man,” Tina stressed the last two words laying more emphasis on it.
“Hmm….” Amelia chuckled, biting down on her inner lips. She could tell Tina was indirectly talking to her. A surge of emotions that she couldn’t really define swelled inside her veins, making her body stiffen and her grip around her bag handle tighten.
“Nevertheless,…” Tina continued. “….I’m here to correct that impression. Once I get hold of my man, I will kick the stinking b*tch back to the sewer from where she came. So, wish me luck.”
Tina flipped her hair backwards as she turned around and left, humming satisfactorily to herself.
Bang!
Amelia heard a loud banging sound inside her head, as Tina closed the door. It felt as though Tina had just hit her with a mallet on the centre of her head. Or was it a slap on her cheek?
“Me, a random cheap desperate girl and a b*tch who lives in a sewer?” Amelia laughed bitterly like someone on the verge of insanity. She had never been the type to back out from a fight whether in the wrong or the right.
“Calm down, Amelia.” She heard her friendly angelic voice whisper inside her ears. “Tina didn’t say it was Blaze or Maria. You may be overthinking this. Maybe she’s referring to another mother and son in another private VIP dining room.”
“Lies…” Amelia heard her realistic, wicked and devilish conscience mock her. “Open your eyes, Amelia. Blaze already told you that he has a history with Tina. She is the heartless lady who dumped him. She is the reason why he is so cold and mean towards you. And on top of that, she just insulted you. Are you going to let this slide? Are you going to let her steal him again? Are you going to let her take away your husband or your sweet mother-in-law?”
“Never,” Amelia said to herself
“Ma’am, are you almost done?” Amelia heard Pascal’s voice from behind the convenience door. She had no idea he had been standing out there.
“I’ll be out in a few seconds.” Amelia returned to the mirror and applied a few more makeup before leaving the convenience.
