Chapter 71: Showdown
Under the watchful eyes of her bodyguards and other ghost securities positioned by Blaze, Amelia ignored the duo as she focused on signing a few autographs for some of her thrilled fans crowded behind the barricades. She even took some selfies with a few of them. She was about to make her way into the event hall, when Gwen called out to her, hoping to make a fool of her before the media.
“Amy, is that you?”
“Baby, let’s not do this, here,” Jerry whispered while pretending to kiss Gwen on the cheek.
“Don’t worry, I’ve got this,” Gwen reassured her husband not wanting to miss such a golden opportunity to show the world Amelia’s b*tchy side.
Amelia paused on her track, knowing that walking away from the shameless couple would only depict her as a weakling. She also signaled Pascal and Clay, communicating with them nonverbally to stand down. She leisurely turned around to meet Gwen’s mockery gaze as the latter strolled up to meet her holding Jerry like some sort of trophy she just acquired.
Some people who were standing close to the hall entrance where Amelia was standing inched closer to witness a showdown while some paparazzi, journalists and bloggers moved closer to capture this rare moment.
“Amy darling, how nice to see you.” Gwen beamed sweetly, standing only a few feet away from her step-sister.
“You’re not worthy to call me by that name,” Amelia said in a deadpan tone, anger boiling inside of her like a bubbling lava. She scanned Jerry from head to toe with so much disgust as though he was covered in bird poop, before directing her cold gaze to her stepsister. “Only friends and family with dignity can I dress me fondly.”
“I stand to be corrected, sis.” Gwen smiled mockingly. “But how may I address you since you are neither Mrs Morgan nor Miss Shawls? Probably by your new husband’s name who…” She tilted her head from side to side as if in search of someone. “… isn’t here with you. Where is he by the way?”
Seated inside his exotic car which was parked across the road from the event venue and watching a live stream of the ongoing event, Blaze listened to the riffraff called Gwen try to make a jest of him. He clenched his fist, his narrowed eyes darkened as he thought of the best way to teach her a bitter lesson. However, he remained put, watching how Amelia would smartly deal with her sister without creating a dramatic scene.
“Why? Amelia asked glaring at her stepsister. “Are you planning to steal him too? Don’t tell me that you are suddenly bored of the loser beside you?”
Some of the guests standing close to the feuding sister suppressed their laughter as they held their breath, waiting for Gwen to respond to the direct accusation.
Gwen bit down on her inner lips to stifle her anger as she replied calmly.
“Don’t be ridiculous, sis. Why would I want your nameless husband when I have this handsome prince charming next to me?” Gwen said, stroking Jerry’s smooth brown hair while welcoming a brief kiss from him.
“So shameless!” Someone muttered from behind Amelia. But she was unmoved by their childish display.
“Why don’t you two get a room and save us from the agony of watching this nauseating display of pure stupidity.” Amelia turned to leave but Gwen touched her on the shoulder causing her to spin sharply.
Gwen quickly withdrew her hand as though she had touched hot coal. She stared into Amelia’s dangerously narrowed eyes and spoke softly like someone incapable of hurting a fly.
“Come on sis, I know you hate me because Jerry left you for me. And I have told you sorry like a million times. Why won’t you forgive me? After all, you are no saint yourself. You have been seeing another man behind Jerry and married him the minute you got divorced.”
Amelia’s hand itched by her side to slap Gwen. But she restrained her anger trying to calm herself down as Gwen continued spewing more rubbish for media publicity.
“Irrespective of what happened, we cannot remain in the past. We both are guilty of doing wrong. You are my sister and I regret ever hurting you. Please, let’s go back to the way things were. I miss my sister and best friend so much.”
Gwen’s attempt at portraying Amelia as a villain without a heart gained her more backlash than empathy.
Side murmur started rising from different directions with some ladies standing close by, urging Amelia to slap Gwen.
But who said words were not as effective as a whip?
“Are you done or is there more you have to get out of your chest?” Amelia asked in a more composed voice for someone accused of infidelity. She didn’t wait for Gwen to respond to her question as she continued speaking. “You know, you are missing out on your real talent. Maybe you should reconsider your profession of stealing brainless jerks like the fool standing beside you. Acting suits you better.”
“Ahh!” Gwen gasped pretending to be stunned while hiding her ire at the mockery side comments that ensued.
“Come on Amelia, don’t be rude.”Jerry didn’t bother masking his anger due to Amelia’s continuous insults. “You were once head over heels in love with this so-called fool. What does that make you, huh? You don’t have to be so bitter because I chose your sister over you. After all, you asked for this divorce. Why can’t you get over me?”
Jerry’s words only infuriated more people, causing a slight uproar from those close by. But Amelia eased the tension with her quick response.
“You must think so highly of yourself, Mr Morgan. How could I have been so blind playing with a boy toy when there are real men out there.” Amelia said grinning instead of getting offended by Jerry’s hurting words.
Jerry clenched his fist, anger seeping through his veins at Amelia’s continual referral to him as incompetent. He could tell from the way she glowed and her bold utterances that she was no longer the innocent girl he once knew.

“Like I said earlier, I don’t have to waste my breath dwelling on leeches and vultures. You both are the perfect misfit and you complement each other.” She snarled before leaving Jerry behind angrier than ever.
