Chapter 122: Mimic
Seemingly gone crazy as he “kissed” the labyrinth walls, Shye felt fortunate that no one was around to watch him.
Not that he still needed to do this stupid pose if there was someone to place his/her hands in the major rune anyway.
After a few minutes, Shye had no choice but to stop paying attention to his stupid pose as the mental pain he had to endure gradually grew more painful with each passing second.
There were even a few times when he almost gave up but his desire to escape the dastardly place empowered his determination to pull through.
Shye didn’t even bother checking the progress of the rune even though it was right in front of him.
He simply closed his eyes and used every last bit of his mental strength to complete the runic procedure using what remained of his little mana pool.
Then, after what felt like an eternity due to the extremely unbearable pain, the last clicking sound felt like heavenly music to his ears as he quickly removed his face from the walls and used both his hands to hold his head, hoping to ease the excruciating pain by even a little.
However, upon realizing that the doors of the room were opening, Shye knew that he had to leave immediately.
Thus, he forced himself to stay focused as he used [Dash Lv.3] immediately to instantly disappear in front of the opening door.
He wasn’t in a condition to fight right now so the best course of action was to temporarily retreat to the closest hiding spot and recover before going back to check the contents of the room.
His decision proved to be right because after barely making it out of the hallway on time, Shye heard footsteps of what seemed like a kobold captain rushing out of the room, barking and growling in anger as it looked for the creature who dared open the room it was guarding.
Although it was a mystery how this kobold survived being holed up in the labyrinth room with nothing to eat, Shye was already sick of using his head so he simply hid in the closest hiding spot and took a quick nap.
Only…his quick nap wasn’t so quick at all and turned out to be an eight-hour sleep.
*YAWN*
‘Crap…I slept, didn’t I? Well…Not like another extra 8 hours inside the labyrinth would matter…’
Shye thought to himself as he stretched lazily and ate a quick meal before walking back to the hallway of the third room.
Sleeping for eight hours turned out to be the correct course of action as he felt fully refreshed, ready to face anything that came his way.
Feeling that his body was ready for combat, Shye walked out of his hiding spot and carefully peeked from a corner to check if the kobold captain was patrolling the hallway.
Unbeknownst to him, the creature he was looking for was right behind him, ferocious eyes glowing, battle axes raised high, ready to chop down at any moment.
*FWOOSH*
The battle axes whistled through the air as the kobold captain chopped down with all of its strength, aiming to cleave the loathsome trespasser into two pieces.
Luckily, his survival instincts tingled.
Shye felt his hair stand on end and just before he was chopped in half, he decisively rolled forward, not even bothering to look back, allowing him to narrowly dodge the murderous attack of the kobold captain
‘Curses! It was behind me all this time?!’ Shye inwardly cursed as he quickly drew both of his greatswords, feeling the attribute boost from his purchased talent course through his body.
The survival instincts he developed through numerous life-and-death battles saved his life this time as he broke out in a cold sweat, not daring to imagine what would happen to him if he failed to instantly recognize the danger and take the appropriate course of action, all in a single split second.
Fortunately, although this kobold captain was stronger than those he had slain in the past, it was still defeated by him after two and a half hours of intense combat, the deciding factor being the mental attack, [Draconian Roar Lv.1].
He was starting to like the skill more and more after determining its range and learning how to effectively use it.
Although it was quite hard to use in combat, once he successfully hit his opponent with the skill, it was either guaranteed grievous wound or outright a kill.
Thus, he vowed to upgrade this skill in the future.
After killing the kobold captain, Shye drank a few health potions before cautiously exploring the insides of the first room.

As expected, there were a few traps but Shye already had countermeasures to such traps so they didn’t really give him too many problems.
Upon entering the room, Shye was…disappointed. There wasn’t an exit and it was just a plain old room with a kobold captain as a guard and a few traps.
However, there was something in the corner that caught his eye…A treasure chest filled with silver coins.
“I’m rich!!” Shye exclaimed as he ran towards the treasure chest before suddenly acting all crazy as he activated [Power Slash Lv.4] to instantly destroy the chest.
*SPURT*
Shockingly, black blood sprayed all over the room as Shye killed the mimic in one hit.
Fortunately, he developed a habit of using appraisal on everything before checking it out which immediately informed him that the treasure chest was nothing but a treacherous mimic.
In the past, he stumbled upon information regarding mimics in the Adventurer Encyclopedia, thus, he knew that the mimics could understand human language although it could not speak the language at all.
Hence, he pretended to fall for the mimic’s money trap before killing it in one hit.
[Congratulations on completing the quest: Hunt: Mimic! You’ve earned 900 points as a reward!]
‘Tch…How filthy…’ Shye complained as he purchased a bottle of water in the system to wash off the sticky black blood of the mimic.
He then walked deeper inside the room, checking every nook and cranny before walking out of the room in a slightly dejected manner.
There was nothing but traps and monsters in that room.
The only reward he got was 900 points for killing the mimic and around ten pieces of weird stones that made unusually loud noises upon hitting the ground.
He decided to keep the weird-ass stones in his inventory, thinking that it might be some sort of key to an exit.
‘Haaahh…Last two rooms…Please have an exit…’ Shye prayed to the gods and goddesses of fate as he anxiously walked towards the second room, not daring to hope for treasures.
An exit was the most precious thing in the world for him right now.
After all, there was no way for him to use all the treasures if he couldn’t bring it out of the goddamned labyrinth.
