Chapter 133: Semi-Passive Skills
With high levels of enthusiasm, Shye directly scrolled to the uncommon skills section, feeling that he already had enough common skills in his arsenal.
If he wanted to make it big, he shouldn’t settle for common skills. The higher the skill’s rarity, the farther it would take him in life.
However, although he had a wide array of skills to choose from, purchasing the skills with points was another story.
The higher the rarity of the skill, the more exponentially expensive it becomes.
Unfortunately, there are only limited opportunities for him to earn a shitload of points in one go, and while skills are important, he couldn’t neglect his attributes.
In the future, it would only get harder and harder for him to earn points, upgrade his attributes, and purchase skills. Still, the system was a huge advantage for him providing not only convenience but also lots of other advantages.
Though he would have to rely on himself more and more as he grew stronger, the system could still give him benefits provided that he had the strength to earn those benefits for himself.
‘Hmm…passive skills huh?’ Shye pondered as he scrolled through a few passive skills that were quite similar to talents.
However, the main difference was, that if you can find and obtain a skill book of such a skill, you can go to any skill shop and learn it through skill cylinders for a price.
Unlike talents that you had to be born with, totally unobtainable using “legal” means.
Though there were some rumors that talents could be transferred to another person, the prerequisite was that the original owner of the talent had to be dead. Plus, these are only rumors, still unproven.
Thus, passive skills were very helpful to adventurers, only, some of them had undesirable side effects, unlike permanent blessings.
Not only were passive skills hard to find on the market, but they were expensive as heck as well.
For Shye, this is one advantage of the system.
As long as he could earn enough points, then theoretically, he could learn all the skills he wanted, not needing to go out of his way to look for skill books in different locations.
Currently, he has around 11,000 points saved up and level one rare skills cost around 4000 to 7000 points depending on its effects.
Upgrading such skills was a different story though as it would cost around double or triple the initial price to upgrade it to the next level.
Shye wanted to purchase unique skills which were a rarity tier higher than rare skills but unfortunately, the options past rare skills were currently locked.
It seems that he had to upgrade the system first before he could purchase such skills.
Thus, he had to settle for uncommon and rare skills for now.
After scrolling for around fifteen minutes, he didn’t see anything he wanted in the uncommon skills section. Perhaps he scrolled past a few of them but his 11,000 points didn’t really allow him to focus that much on the uncommon skills.
Humans are inherently greedy and Shye was no exception, thus, he gave up on trying to find a skill in the uncommon section and directly scrolled to the rare section.
He had the points to purchase a rare skill or two anyway so why deprive himself of rarer skills?
Fortunately, the rare skills section didn’t disappoint him. Just ten minutes after he began scrolling down, he found an interesting semi-passive skill that might be of use to him.

Note #2: This skill levels up thrice as fast when used against creatures of the (Light) category.
———————————-
‘Oh? This skill smells like trouble…But I do like its effects. It’s just that, it seems like I would gradually be an enemy of (Light) category creatures the more I use the skill…’
Shye pondered, feeling tempted to purchase the skill.
He understood that the skill had tremendous psychological effects which would be more evident the longer a fight lasts.
Not only would he get the advantage in drawn-out duels against humans, but the skill was effective against creatures of different affinities such as [Fire] as well.
Except for becoming a hated enemy of [Light] category creatures, there wasn’t really much downside to the skill.
Not to mention, he would only get a permanent stack of [Hate] which affects light creatures when he uses the skill on one or in the vicinity of one.
The best part was, that he could choose to turn the skill on/off anytime without any mana/stamina/cooldown restrictions.
Simply a steal for 6500 points in his opinion.
However, the thought of becoming an enemy of the [Light] was quite a disturbing thought to him because to humans, [Light] is somehow linked to kindness, justice, and all sorts of positive words.
Thus, he couldn’t help but think if he would slowly become evil if he started to use such psychological skills of the (Dark) category.
He felt like he was making a deal with the devil as he pondered whether to purchase the skill or not.
‘Aihhh…I might be overthinking things too much here…Who says that being hated by [Light] type creatures would be equivalent to becoming a villain anyway?’ Shye inwardly thought
He really liked the skill, it’s just that he’s facing some morality and justice sort of problems, making him hesitate if he should purchase it or not.
In the end, he decided to purchase the skill. The advantages simply outweigh the disadvantages far too much in his opinion.
[Congratulations! You’ve learned the skill [(Dark)Harrowing Aura Lv.1 (Semi-Passive)(Rare)]!]
After deciding to not think too much about his decision to purchase the skill, Shye gradually relaxed not knowing that this skill that he purchased would end up becoming one of his major headaches and one of his greatest lifesavers at the same time.
