Chapter 264: Observers Hiding In The Shadows
Shye expected the training to take at least a week, however, he didn’t expect that it would take him two weeks even though he had all the necessary high-grade resources to level up almost all of the new skills to level 3.
He could only imagine how much time it would take for an average adventurer, who doesn’t have the luxury of using high-grade potions and tonics for the sake of training, to level up their skills as these guys had no other options than to wait for their mana and stamina to recover over time naturally.
Due to this sudden realization, Shye couldn’t help but appreciate his overwhelming advantages again.
There was just no way in hell his strength would be remotely close to what it is now if he didn’t have the system even if he trained his guts out.
Still, he couldn’t level his rare skill up to three as its mana consumption was just too huge.
One needed to use the skill 250 times, employing the aid of a high-grade spell mastery tonic, to be able to level it up to three, after all.
Moreover, he couldn’t accurately test its destructive damage since the crystal has no life force for the skill to drain, hence, the crystal kept on displaying zero as its score.
Shye didn’t doubt its capabilities though.
Witnessing its impressive effective range that would render most escape skills ineffective, it was almost impossible for one to escape the spell once caught.
Now, he just needed to test its actual offensive capabilities on monstrous creatures.
“Goodbye, Sir Crowley! Thank you for choosing The Ranged Training Center!”
Contented with the skill, [(Void)(Dark) Gravitational Drain (Rare)], being level two for now, Shye left the establishment with a satisfied smile.
The sun appeared exhausted, seemingly about to descend in just a few minutes.
The impending dusk didn’t dampen Shye’s enthusiasm though.
After exiting the training center, Shye immediately headed towards the guild, eager to take on a quest to test the true extent of his capabilities as a mage.
On the way, he checked his status.

‘W-What the…why did mage become my main class now?’ Shye pondered, inwardly shocked at the fact that the system now recognized him as a mage. ‘Is it because of the total number of skills? Well…it must be as I don’t see how the system would recognize me as a mage except for the sheer number of skills. I like the way it neatly arranged the skills though.’
Although he wanted the system to identify him as a warrior since his missing father trained him to be one, Shye didn’t feel too bad about the system’s identification of his main class.
It’s not like he would lose his abilities as a warrior.
It was nothing but a label decided by the system.
Shye snapped back to reality as he arrived in front of the guild branch headquarters, sensing the respect, wariness, and a hint of fanaticism from his guildmates—both veterans and rookies.
Little did he know, before he entered the guild establishment, three people from various dark alleys watched his every move, lurking in the shadows as they waited for him to come out.
Upon entering, Shye immediately headed towards the quest board, not caring one bit about the gazes coming his way.
He then started searching for suitable quests.
This time, he wanted to try facing a (B-) ranked monstrous creature, preferably one he had encountered previously, allowing him to more accurately assess his progress.
While searching, a familiar voice sounded behind him.
“Hey, Boss Big Brother Shye, can I tag along? I promise you’re the boss this time!” Seira asked with enthusiasm.
She still couldn’t forget the huge fortune she made from joining Shye on just a single mission.
Now, the quest rewards, when divided among five or six individuals, were simply too meager for her.
Since she has a boss big brother that she can rely on, why not try her luck?
“No. Didn’t you say that you’ll only join me for one quest?” Shye replied, instantly rejecting Seira’s request.
“Y-Yes but after our recent successful quest together, dividing the rewards between five or six people just doesn’t feel sufficient for me anymore… Please…if you have any conditions we can talk about it…” Seira replied, looking like a desperate puppy begging someone to take her in. “A-Actually I…I have my reasons for wanting to rank up quickly…”
Witnessing her current appearance, Shye felt bad.
He truly considered Seira as a friend—well, a close acquaintance at least.
Hence, he finds it a bit hard to ruthlessly reject her.
‘You have your reasons…huh?’ Shye pondered, gazing intently at Seira.
He understood that everyone had their own difficulties and it would definitely be safer for him if he had someone decently skilled to watch his back, however, it’s just that…his quests might be a bit too dangerous for Seira.
Facing Shye’s intense gaze, Seira stood her ground, returning his stare with equal determination, intent on persuading him to agree.
“Haaaah…Fine then, let’s talk about terms.”
