Chapter 291: Rookie Competition Details And A Much Needed Upgrade
Three days have already passed since Shye and Seira left Balkrow City.
However, they only reached the lobby of the Vanderwald Advanced Adventurer Zone last night, as the zone was frustratingly distant.
The two of them decided that it was better to turn in early for the night and begin their search for the goblin village in the morning—once both of them were well rested.
And so, they did.
Hours quickly passed.
The biting darkness of the night was soon washed away by the golden rays of the morning sun that slowly emerged from the horizon, casting light upon the mundane lands below.
As the duo felt the warm sunlight touch their eyelids, they inevitably woke up.
“Yawn…Ahh…what a nice rest.” Shye muttered in satisfaction as he gently stretched his limbs.
An eight-hour sleep was truly a great start to one’s day.
Shortly after, as though on cue, Shye and Seira swiftly got up and put their sleeping bags away.
Shye then took out ready-made meals kept in the inventory—as fresh and hot as the moment they were prepared.
Two days ago, Shye suddenly had an epiphany about the correlation between freshly cooked meals ordered from a town’s local diner and the system’s inventory.
Since all the meat he stored inside the inventory didn’t age a single second, he figured that ready-made meals might have the same behavior.
Naturally, Shye immediately tried his theory, ordering fifteen ready-made meals at a town called Chenwood before storing all of them in the system’s inventory.
Then, upon finding out that the system once again didn’t disappoint, Shye was on cloud nine.
While he occasionally craved freshly roasted meat, there were also times when he longed to indulge in meals from his favorite seafood restaurant.
Now that he had the option to do so, Shye was ecstatic.
Regrettably, he found out about this pleasant and convenient surprise a little too late, so for now, the meals from the local diner in Chenwood Town would have to do.
Handing Seira her portion, the duo conveniently ate ready-made warm meals and drank ice-cold sodas.
While doing so Shye couldn’t help but remember the details of the rookie representative selection tournament.
As per Seira, the said tournament was only an appetizer to a bigger one, a huge yearly event of some sort for all guilds—not just Raven’s Blade.
In four months, the Raven’s Blade rookie representative selection tournament will take place.
The champion of this tournament will represent the guild in another city-wide competition: the annual Rookie Adventurer Competition in Balkrow City.
Naturally, Shye understood that this competition presented a prime opportunity to earn a substantial number of points all at once, and he was determined not to let this chance slip away under any circumstances.
‘The city-wide competition… I hope there will be at least a quarter of the audience that attended the Adventurer Academy Competition…’ He mused, thinking about how it would temporarily be better for him to upgrade his attributes instead of saving for a 250,000 point [Epic] tier talent.
Presently, Shye possesses approximately 42,000 points.
However, he realized that due to his recent neglect of improving his attributes, his advantage in attributes was no longer as significant.
The attribute gap that once gave him an edge during the Adventurer Academy Competition was now mostly negligible, especially when competing against individuals like Farhann, who benefited from the resources and attention of his parents, two prominent adventurers ranked as adamantite and mithril.
Without the instant-cast benefit provided by the system, Shye was confident that he would have been forced to disclose his identity as a warrior by now.
Well, he felt that he was quite lucky that no one recognized him yet, probably mostly because he was currently known as a mage and was donning mage robes.

Also, he was lucky enough that he hadn’t encountered a rookie from an academy they fought during the Adventurer Academy Competition.
There were thousands of cities dubbed as “adventurer hubs”—while some super rookies even went to other regions to try and make a name for themselves in a land where the grass is perceived to be greener.
Hence, it was understandable that no one recognized him here.
Yet, he couldn’t shake off the slight sting of disappointment that came from nobody recognizing him.
‘Well, just means that I’m not famous enough. There are new Adventurer Academy Competition “champions” every year, after all.’ Shye consoled himself. ‘Anyway, I’ve got to invest in my attributes and not solely rely on [Epic] tier talent. Moreover, I will be able to farm points faster the stronger I am…’
Deciding that it would be wiser to invest his points in upgrading attributes, Shye opened the system.
‘Hmm, for strength, agility, and dexterity, a single upgrade would cost me 240 points while it would cost me 180 points for a single point in intelligence. A bit unfortunate that the wisdom stat is still locked for an upgrade but at least I know that one needs life experiences to increase it. Lastly, for stamina and vitality, it would be 320, and 360 points per upgrade due to these two being treated as some sort of “premium attribute” by the system. Well, it’s not like I can do anything about it except to strategize the most efficient system point distribution…’
After a while, Shye finally finished eating and strategizing about the point distribution, and by the time he finished upgrading his attributes, the attribute section looked something like this:
[Attributes]:
[Strength: 140]
[Intelligence: 140]
[Agility: 135]
[Dexterity: 135]
[Stamina: 105]
[Vitality: 120]
[Wisdom: 57]
‘I’d say my current strength is now around low to mid emerald…’ Shye mused. ‘Heh, those damned Winged Boargers would probably be easy pickings for me now…’
The quest they are undertaking might pose a risk to their lives simply because the ranks of the (B-) ranked Goblin Chieftain’s underlings are unknown.
If there were a bunch of (C) ranked creatures in the village, then it would be too difficult for him to help Seira.
With his increased attributes, their likelihood of success in a quest requiring a recommended party of six has also risen.
Glancing at Seira, Shye noticed that she was also done eating.
“Well then, shall we go?”
