Chapter 342: Cursed Family
“Mom! Big sister is back!”
Outside a run-down yet fairly spacious wooden hut, a seemingly frail young boy with short purple hair, decent facial features, and a scrawny frame, excitedly ran back inside.
Upon hearing the boy’s words, a middle-aged woman who bore a striking resemblance to the boy, except for her long hair, accidentally dropped the basket she was carrying, scattering various vegetables on the ground.
However, she couldn’t care less.
Tears began streaming down her cheeks as she madly rushed towards the wooden door, eager to see her daughter again after three years.
“Seira!! My daughter!” Seira’s mom exclaimed upon seeing her daughter, Seira, who was also crying as she ran towards the wooden hut.
Extending their arms to embrace each other with tears in their eyes, the mother-daughter pair cried their hearts out for a while before letting go.
Seira then hugged her little brother tightly for a short while before turning her attention back to her mother.
Seeing her mother and younger brother looking unhealthy, her heart broke into a million pieces.
Two years and ten months ago, they only looked slightly unhealthy, but now…it looked like they would only last for two more years at most.
She had to act fast.
If not for her boss, she wouldn’t even have the chance to see their current conditions.
Seira’s family…was actually not poor as her late father was once a ruby-ranked adventurer, and although her mother was only a mundane person, her father had always earned enough for them to live decently at a fairly decent house inside a fairly decent city in the past.
Unfortunately, being an adventurer was a perilous job.
One day, her father was cursed by a high-ranked monstrous creature, and even though her father and his comrades were able to escape, the curse slowly ate away at their vitality.
After a while, their conditions worsened and the entire party slowly withered, dying one by one.
Seira’s father was quite tenacious, fighting the curse for months while employing the help of priests and hospitals in hopes of removing the curse but alas!
Only after spending their entire fortune did her father find out that the curse could only be removed through curse cleansing, a ritual performed by ten diamond-ranked or above priests/priestesses with a specific skill called Curse Reversal, meaning that the darned priests and hospitals merely scammed them out of their money, knowing full well that there was no way in hell they could remove the curse from her father’s body.
To make things worse, although the curse wasn’t transmissible to adventurers whose bodies were tougher than the mundane folks, it was contagious to ordinary people like her mother and younger brother, who had only just started training.
Seira was quite lucky that her body was already as strong as a silver-ranked adventurer by the time her father was cursed, else their family would have no hope.
Three and a half years ago, her father finally perished while harboring resentment to the heartless charlatans who scammed him.
The unfortunate man couldn’t even find peace in his passing, as he discovered just before he died that his wife and son were also cursed.
Adding to his miserable final moments was the fact that he couldn’t even leave money for them to continue living inside the city.
‘I’m a failure of a father!’ These were the man’s final thoughts as he crossed over to the afterlife.
Consequently, Seira’s family was forced to live in a poverty-stricken village, and if not for the few remaining silver coins her father left them, they wouldn’t even be able to purchase a dilapidated wooden hut for themselves!
Seira knew that she had to act, and fast.
Otherwise, her beloved mother and little brother, her only remaining family in this world, would die.
Driven by a fierce determination to save her family, Seira left the village two years and ten months ago to pursue a career as an adventurer, managing to pass the Raven’s Blade admission exam with mediocre scores through sheer grit and determination.
At this point, she still had no idea how to employ the aid of ten diamond-ranked priests/priestesses.
Hence, she believed that the only thing she could do was embark on quests and rank up as fast as she could.

She was initially an introvert who hated talking to people.
However, her circumstances forced her to constantly approach people, learning what little she could through incessant chatter until finally, she learned that the guild’s main branch in valenzia had thousands of members—all ranked diamond and above.
In addition to this, those who would be promoted to the main branch would receive a gift from the guild, and she was ready to give her gift up in exchange for a chance to remove the curse from her mother and little brother’s bodies.
‘As long as she could make it to the main branch, she would be able to find ways…’ Was the thought that kept her going.
It seemed that it would be impossible for her to rank up fast enough to save her family’s lives.
Fortunately, Shye suddenly popped out of nowhere and joined their guild branch, shining light on her almost impossible endeavor.
Today, she finally saved enough money to at least bring her mother and little brother back to Balkrow City with her and let them live a comfortable life.
“Mother, Soren, I’ve come to pick you two up.”
Hearing her daughter’s words, Sarah looked at Seira with a confused expression.
Living in the city was comfortable, however, it was also expensive.
Her daughter must have been barely getting by, so she was puzzled as to why Seira had returned to take them away.
“S-Seira, you don’t have to worry about us. Forget us and just focus on living your life okay? We…don’t have long to live…so please…please promise me that you will stay strong and alive even when we’re gone…” Sarah bitterly said as tears once again fiercely streamed down her cheeks.
Clearly, she already lost hope.
Well, her despair was understandable as it would be nearly impossible for her daughter, who only started adventuring two years and ten months ago, to employ the aid of ten diamond-ranked priests/priestesses.
Hence, Sarah decided to just cherish what little time she had with her son while allowing her daughter to live her own life and get used to a life without them.
As a mundane individual, this was the best she could do.
She didn’t want to part with her children but what else could she do? Hoping for a miracle was simply too painful for her.
“Mother! Don’t say things like that! I will never give up on you and Soren! Come, I’ll help you pack. I’ll explain my circumstances on the way…”
