Chapter 498: Final Attribute, Unlocked!
Happy with how things turned out with his instructor, Shye hummed a tune as he returned to the inn’s room.
There were still three more days before his inauguration as a regional champion.
Therefore, Shye planned to review his winnings and use them efficiently for the time being.
Tomorrow…
Feeling quite tired, he decided to go to bed early that night.
The next morning, Shye got out of bed, took a quick bath, had a nice breakfast at the inn’s canteen, and then checked on his division at the guild headquarters.
Since things seemed fine and his members weren’t getting bullied by other divisions, Shye exited the guild headquarters.
He wanted to talk to Regi but the guy wasn’t there.
‘Well, he never arrived early. I’ll just come back later. For now, I should upgrade my attributes.’
Returning to his inn room, Shye opened the system.
[Current Points]: 400,993
Seeing how many points he had left, Shye was satisfied, immediately navigating to the [Upgrade Attributes] window.
His attributes had remained stagnant ever since he maxed them out.
Earning and saving up a million system points was difficult, so Shye could only upgrade the system after completing another mandatory quest that rewarded him with enough points for the upgrade.
‘Oh? What’s this?’
There was a button on the [Upgrade Attributes] window that wasn’t there before, hence, Shye immediately tapped it to see what it was.

Cost to upgrade:
680 – Strength
600 – Intelligence
640 – Agility
600 – Dexterity
1,200 – Stamina
1,200 – Vitality
1,400 – Wisdom

‘Oh, so it lists the cost for each point upgrade, huh?’ Shye mused, noticing something at the bottom of the list. ‘Wisdom? So I can finally upgrade my wisdom attribute now?’
Despite his excitement, Shye knew that he couldn’t disregard his bread-and-butter attributes.
Thus, he decided to upgrade them first and then use the remaining points to upgrade the newly unlocked wisdom attribute.
After spending a total of 278,600 points, his attributes looked something like this:

[Strength: 400]
[Intelligence: 400]
[Agility: 370]
[Dexterity: 360]
[Stamina: 330]
[Vitality: 330]
[Wisdom: 147]
With 122,393 points left, Shye pondered how many points he should invest in wisdom.
If there was anything neglecting intelligence taught him, it was that all attributes would be of help to an adventurer, he just had to discover their purposes.
To most adventurers and even the academies, the wisdom attribute was a huge puzzle because somehow, every time they would enter an appraisal shop to be appraised and obtain a printed copy of their updated attributes in exchange for a fee, their wisdom attributes would increase without them knowing why.
Naturally, a few adventurers and adventurer academies who stood at the peak of the adventuring world already discovered the attribute’s purpose.
However, since it was a valuable secret, they would naturally not share the knowledge with just anyone else.
Even Colzen Academy didn’t have an inkling of what the attribute does except for making one a little bit smarter in making decisions and increasing one’s mana pool.
Moreover, since the method to reliably increase one’s attribute was unknown, most believed that there was no use in studying its effects.
After all, if one couldn’t train it, why bother?
This was the reason Shye had to investigate its effects as he was probably the only adventurer who had the chance to obtain all adventurer classes due to his unique advantage.
‘For now, let’s upgrade it to two hundred…’ Shye inwardly thought as he unhesitatingly spent 89,200 points.
[Wisdom: 200]
As soon as he felt the huge surge of warm, comforting energy coursing through his body, Shye’s slightly distressed heart became unbelievably calm.
Somehow, his guilt about what he had just witnessed in the system upgrade dream dissipated like thin smoke as a wave of enlightenment suddenly allowed him to accept everything with a serene heart.
‘Hmm…so these are the effects of upgrading wisdom, huh? Maybe no one ever noticed because they’ve never experienced such a significant instant upgrade in this specific attribute…’
With the advantage of upgrading attributes in bulk, Shye easily noticed one effect that made it all worthwhile: a calmer heart and a deeper sense of worldly understanding.
Just from this, he could say that his 89,200 points were well spent as in combat, the calmer one was, the more one could focus.
Naturally, the calmer and more focused one was, the higher one’s chances of winning were, especially in a neck-and-neck scenario.
‘I’m sure it isn’t just this, though. Well, no need to rush…I’ll take my time investigating this attribute’s effects.’
With his now more serene than ever heart, Shye could trust his judgment far easier than before.
He was certain that it wouldn’t have the highest upgrade cost and the longest unlocking time for no reason.
Once he was done with his attribute upgrades, he promptly left the inn room to try something out.
However, before he could, he must first register Nookie as a tamed monster, which was different from a familiar as familiars were from another world.
Heading towards the nearest WAA office, Shye was rather pleasantly surprised to find that there was no queue for tamed monster registration.
In front of him stood a lone female adventurer holding a cute orange fox.
Once the fox was registered, it was already his turn.
‘Hoh, so others tame low-ranked cute monsters to make them pets, huh?’ Shye mused as he walked towards the counter, thinking that it was not bad to tame one or two cute little pets for his future children.’
“Hello, Sir Adventurer. May I see the creature you want to register?”
“Oh, right. Nookie, come out.”
“Nookie greet Master!”
Naturally, seeing a cartoonish imp suddenly emerge out of nowhere, the staff member was startled.
“N-N-Necrollin Puppeteer!”
Those assigned to the tamed monster registration position naturally had extensive knowledge of almost every monster.
Hence, the staff member easily recognized what Nookie was.
From what the staff knew, despite their size, Necrollins were prideful creatures, especially the puppeteers as they were rather gifted even amongst their peers.
Furthermore, even a young Necrollin Puppeteer could easily be considered a (B-) ranked threat solely because of its capability to control the bodies of deceased monstrous creatures while hiding inside a void pocket.
It was simply difficult for the staff member to comprehend how Shye managed to tame such a creature.
It was none of his business, though.
Hence, with a huge gulp, the staff member typed away and registered the creature.
“I-Its name was Nookie, correct?”
“Yes, this little one’s name is Nookie.”
There was no doubt that the creature was tamed, as the black seal on its head was very distinct—one of the clearest he had ever seen, indicating that Shye had complete control over the creature.
“H-Here’s the creature’s identification card, h-have a nice day, sir adventurer.”
Bowing in gratitude to the flabbergasted staff member, Shye swiftly exited the city to try something exciting.
‘Heh, good thing I haven’t sold the ember wyvern’s corpse yet…’
