Chapter 499: Puppeteer’s Prowess
“This area should be good…” Shye muttered as he arrived at a secluded area inside an advanced adventurer zone three hours away from Valenzia City.
Although this specific adventurer zone had lots of adventurers inside, the area Shye chose didn’t as it was once the nest of an apex predator.
The Evening Caliphus resembled an enormous cobra with pitch-black scales and eyes, making it extremely hard to spot at nighttime—its preferred hunting time.
Hence, before one could even notice, one would already be swallowed whole.
This was the reason adventurers avoided the area like the plague.
Well, it was already a thing of the past, though, as Shye had already killed the serpent by cleanly puncturing its core.
As a result, despite its almost instantaneous death, the Evening Caliphus’ body remained perfectly intact.
…Setting up his Small Camouflage Camp, Shye eagerly took out the Evening Caliphus’ corpse from a corpse container.
“Nookie, come out.”
“Yes, Master.”
Since the imp spent most of its time eavesdropping on Shye’s conversations from within a void pocket, it was gradually improving its understanding of human language.
As a result, it could now compose simple phrases and sentences as a response, though its way of speaking was still rather unrefined.
…Upon seeing the enormous corpse of a (B) ranked monster before it, the Necrollin Puppeteer’s instincts immediately kicked in, giving it an overwhelming urge to control the corpse—much like a cat instinctively hunts a mouse at first sight.
However, it was way too respectful of Shye’s strength and was too scared to do things that might anger its master.
“M-Master, may Nookie control the corpse?”
Hearing the cartoonish little imp’s words, Shye inevitably smiled.
He tested whether it would act based on instinct or ask for his permission first.
Luckily, Nookie didn’t disappoint him.
“Of course, since you’ve been a nice little Necrollin, I shall allow you to play with it.”
“My gratitude, master!”
With an evident smile on its impish face, Nookie once again disappeared into a void pocket, leaving Shye puzzled.
‘Hmm? Can’t it simply control the corpse outside its hiding pockets?’
Shye had a point.
Nookie could control corpses whether it was inside a void pocket or not; however, it was simply a Necrollin Puppeteer’s instinct to control a corpse from within a void pocket.
If it didn’t do so, it would feel uneasy since it would be vulnerable to attackers.
…Around ten seconds had already passed, yet, there was still no movement from the corpse.
Shye was beginning to grow impatient.
He wanted to see Nookie’s abilities as soon as possible, expecting the little guy’s abilities to be of great help to him.
Luckily, he didn’t have to wait long as soon after, the Evening Caliphus’ corpse twitched crazily.
Then, after about five more seconds, the creature suddenly hissed, coiling up in a threatening position toward Shye as if it were still alive.

‘Hoh? I thought its movements would be clumsy. Who would’ve thought that Nookie could make it so smoothly?’
Shye was impressed.
However, Nookie’s performance didn’t end there.
The enormous serpent suddenly began crawling at an unbelievable speed—likely even faster than when it was alive—showcasing Nookie’s masterful puppeteering skills.
It then performed powerful attacks one after the other, leaving Shye in utter awe and excitement.
“Great! What a master puppeteer you are, Nookie!”
Emerging from the void, the little imp replied proudly: “Thank you for praise, Master!”
It was indeed a master puppeteer.
However, being recognized by its master felt wonderful, so Nookie felt the urge to show off even more after its initial performance.
Still, it was smart enough to realize that simply repeating the same attack patterns at a faster pace would be unimpressive, preventing it from doing so even if it desired more praise for its puppeteering skills.
Luckily for the little imp, it was about to receive the most pleasant surprise in its entire life.
“Since you’re such a master, I shall give you a gift,” Shye said with a mysterious smile, leaving Nookie confused yet excited.
After all, gifts have always been a positive thing.
*BANG!*
A loud noise echoed through the forest as the gigantic corpse of the Ember Wyvern hit the ground, causing tremors not only to the earth but also to the little imp’s heart, driving it insane with utter elation.
“UGYIII!!!”
The little imp celebrated, clapping in glee.
However, just a few seconds later, it stopped, suddenly realizing something important.
“M-M-Master…Did you kill this?”
“Hmm? Yeah, why?”
“N-N-Nothing! C-Can Nookie use?”
“Of course, I told you it was a gift, didn’t I? I’m lending this corpse to you!”
This was a part of Shye’s plan.
After all, one could never be too sure of a monstrous creature’s loyalty, hence, it would be best to subtly intimidate it every now and then.
Nookie seemed to already forget the intimidation, though, as it swiftly returned to its void pocket with an excited impish smile.
It wanted to immediately try controlling the (A) ranked monstrous creature’s corpse.
After three whole minutes of remaining motionless, the corpse finally twitched, bringing a smile to Shye’s face.
If Nookie could control it perfectly, there were numerous ways Shye could utilize it!
*ROAR!*
The wyvern roared with a rather stiff intensity, making the sound even more horrifying to those who heard it.
Shortly after, the corpse’s enormous wings started flapping mightily.
A few more seconds later, although clumsily, the wyvern finally soared to the skies while roaring, bringing sheer happiness to Shye’s heart.
A few adventurers eventually spotted the dead wyvern, filling them with horror and causing them to gasp for breath as they hurriedly fled the area.
They hoped to escape alive, believing that the WAA would dispatch high-ranked adventurers to deal with it, as it was outside its expected habitat.
Little did Shye know, this marked the beginning of a significant mystery that even high-ranked adventurers failed to solve, impacting the entire adventurer zone and dissuading wussy adventurers from taking quests there.
He wasn’t in the mood to care, though, as he was simply way too excited.
“Hahahaha! Well done, Nookie! Bring it down so I can attempt to ride it!”
