Chapter 505: The Truth (1)
“Lord Blas, I apologize for my straightforwardness. However, we don’t even know which terrorist group attacked the city, let alone where they brought Shye Crowley. How would we rescue him?” One of Blas’ aides said with a hint of disappointment.
He had always respected his city lord in the past for his calmness.
Yet, at this very moment, there was no trace of the calm city lord he idolized.
Blas was embarrassing them in front of the WAA representative.
“There must be tracks somewhere! What will the world, or the city, think of me if we don’t find them? We have to bring Crowley back at all costs!” Blas exclaimed in desperation.
The once respectable man indeed looked stupid at this moment, and the WAA representative couldn’t help but intervene while shaking his head.
“Enough, Lord Blas. Your aide is right, it would be hard to even find Crowley. We have no choice but to postpone the rescue operation until we discover which terrorist group attacked Valenzia City.”
Hearing the WAA representative’s words, Blas dejectedly sat back down.
“Sigh…Everyone, I apologize. You all know that Shye Crowley is the most talented person our region has ever seen. I hope you all can understand why I’m acting like this.”
“Worry not, Lord Blas. We all understand. Since the city lord is in no condition to continue the meeting, let us do so another day. In the meantime, continue searching for the terrorists’ tracks. Dismissed!”
Once the meeting was over the aides went their own way—one of them immediately meeting up with the WAA representative behind everyone’s backs.
“Hmm… it doesn’t look like Blas is colluding with terrorists after all. I thought he would be more cunning, but it turns out he’s just an above-average city lord who values his prestige above everything else.”
The WAA representative frowned upon hearing the aide’s words.
It seemed that a lot of people, including this one, were jealous of Blas in the past and were happy to see his downfall.
‘Hmph, this is why your region is stuck at the bottom! There’s no power to be had, yet all of you still have some internal conflicts! Laughable!’ The representative mused before speaking:
“Hmph, I’m also a bit disappointed. However, remain vigilant. Although the chances are low, Blas could still be pretending.”
“Understood, Sir Wekkan! I shall continue observing him.” Blas’ aide replied respectfully.
However, deep down, he believed that Blas was nothing more than a superficial city lord, not even clever enough to conspire with terrorists.
Unfortunately for the WAA representative, he had no way of knowing the aide’s true feelings.
“Good. I’ll head back to headquarters for now. In the meantime, search for any signs of the terrorists and do it quickly. Your region can’t afford to lose Shye Crowley at this crucial time.”

Meanwhile, back at the Verden Zachrana base…
“Fine then, since I’m already deep into this crap anyway, I shall listen to what all of you have to say,” Shye said after taking multiple deep breaths to calm his raging heart.
He was still furious at the three of them.
However, despite feeling betrayed by his parents and the old man to whom he supposedly “owed” a favor, Shye still had a reason to live: for himself, for his future family with Shirley, and his little sister, Maia.
Hence, a part of him still wanted to go through with the old man’s quest no matter how bullcrap it was.
After all, one needed strength to protect their loved ones and give them the best life they could ever ask for, which is why Shye was determined to hold onto the system’s benefits if he could.
For now, he was at least willing to listen to them.
“Great. Then I shall explain.” Old Man Sanada began, “Your parents have already been informed of this. The world is ending.”
Hearing the old man’s words, Shye’s eyes narrowed.

It wasn’t easy for him to trust the old man again, given his exceptional talent for spewing out lies.
This might be another fabricated story so he had to remain vigilant and look for holes.
“As you know, mana dungeons have been popping up everywhere. This will not change forever unless we restore this world’s balance.”
“Restore the world’s balance? Oh, I wonder why it was broken in the first place?” Shye sneered in response, not willing to believe the old man yet.
“It’s embarrassing but…it was because of me and the so-called Yon Augenn Hero Party fifty years ago…”
This time, seeing the old man’s ashamed face, Shye couldn’t help but narrow his eyes once more.
‘Fifty years ago? Wasn’t that when the Yon Augenn Hero Party defeated and sealed the black dragon of destruction?’ Shye pondered with a frown.
“Hah, what, are you now telling me that sealing the black dragon of destruction was a mistake? Didn’t it go and attack Yonpo City and that’s why it was sealed?”
“Yes, sealing it was a huge mistake…the biggest one I’ve done in my life…”
“Hahaha! Do you think I was born yesterday, old man? Why don’t you just come out and say that you want to release the black dragon of destruction to get your revenge on Dweezel Hawkins? I’m sure it would be worth it for you. After all, it’s only millions of lives in exchange for sweet revenge, right?” Shye sneered coldly, appearing as though he had already seen through the old man’s plot.
“Sigh…again, young lad, I apologize for deceiving you. However, I’m telling the truth this time. If you still find it hard to believe my words, why don’t we use an orb of truth?”
Narrowing his eyes, Shye retrieved one of the highest quality from the system’s inventory.
He was not about to use an orb of truth provided by the deceptive old man.
“Fine, here, use mine. Who knows if yours has been tampered with? You’re a despicable soul practitioner, after all.”
Shye’s parents naturally didn’t like the sharp words coming out of his mouth.
However, there was nothing they could do as they were not in a position to reprimand their son.
They could only watch as the old man and Shye resolved the matter on their own.
“Good. Now then, I’ll be the one asking questions.”
