Chapter 520: Pushing Through
‘H-Holy cr*p…’ Shye couldn’t help but inwardly curse in disbelief.
Why? Because two (S-) ranked creatures got turned into mere ashes—their circular mana cores rolling on the ground.
‘Hmm…as I suspected, my earlier attack was too strong so even the so-called core was destroyed…good thing I slightly held back…’
Hearing Zeth’s telepathic murmurs, Shye’s eyes almost popped out of their sockets.
‘Y-You still held back?’
‘Yes, Master Shye, as I wanted to see the mana core that everyone in my world talks about so much because it rapidly increases our strength as familiar spirits.’
Meanwhile, the ambushers were panicking.
‘Sh*t! Sh*t! How is this familiar spirit so strong?! Wasn’t it barely a King-class? If so, then three (S-) ranked monsters should have sufficed!’ The assassin leader inwardly thought in utter frustration.
He was tasked to abduct Valenzia Region’s famous rookie, Shye Crowley, as his boss wanted to peer through his secrets and extract his talent for their organization’s use.
Unfortunately, they underestimated this specific King-class familiar spirit’s strength.
Well, despite their organization’s success for the last three decades, they’ve actually never had experience fighting a king-class familiar spirit.
One of their greatest achievements in the past was slaying the Noble-class familiar of an adamantite-ranked adventurer from the Weaven Region.
The familiar spirit had an overwhelming power rating of 8,600, just a few hundred below that of Shye Crowley’s, whose familiar was barely a King-class one at 9,002.
Yet, at that time, three (S-) class monsters absolutely tore the familiar spirit apart.
It was a one-sided slaughter.
Naturally, they believed that the same line-up of drugged and forcefully tamed monsters would be able to do the same against Shye’s familiar spirit.
Zeth’s power rating was only higher by 400.
Therefore, they concluded that even if the same lineup wouldn’t be able to defeat Shye’s king-class familiar as easily, they would at least be able to keep it busy, allowing them to attack and abduct Crowley.
However, as it turned out, their expectations couldn’t be further from the truth as, before a minute even passed, all three (S-) class monsters perished without a corpse—all burned to cinders.
It was a catastrophic blunder for their organization.
After all, it was hard to drug, capture, and tame such high-ranked creatures.
They only had a total of eight (S-) ranked creatures under their control.
Of course, losing three was a rather huge setback.
If they still couldn’t catch Crowley after sacrificing three (S-) ranked creatures, then they’re absolutely f*cked.
Clenching his fists, the assassin leader made a hard decision: they’re pushing through with the operation!
“Beta Squad Three, Four, and Seven, contain the familiar for five seconds! I shall personally capture the target!”
Shye scoffed in disdain after hearing the leader’s words.
‘Heh, defeat and capture me in five seconds? Wake the f*ck up!’
This time, it was Zeth who smiled, pleased with his master’s confidence
Two seconds later, the three beta squads assumed formation and encircled the dusk mare—their hearts trembling after feeling the mare’s sinister aura.

Orders were orders, though, and they had no choice but to face the ferocious familiar despite not wanting to do so.
Although they were on the level of Mithrils and Adamantites, stalling the King-class familiar for five seconds was still a tall task—one that would require them to put their lives on the line.
Some of them would probably perish.
They had no choice, however, as they would also perish at the hands of their organization should they fail.
After all, their boss allowed their team to use up to five (S-) ranked creatures to get the job done properly.
However, driven by overconfidence and greed, along with a desire for the boss’s recognition, their team’s leader decided to use only three to capture Shye Crowley, reserving the other two for another operation in a different region.
If they managed to pull it off, then their boss would indeed be impressed.
Only, they were failing hard, and the boss would probably be fuming upon learning of the three (S-) ranked monstrous creatures’ deaths.
Unless they could capture Shye Crowley, that is.
“Everyone, attack as per the formation’s hunting sequence!”
Soon after, the battle resumed as around thirty Mithril and Adamantite-ranked assassins methodically attempted to take down Zeth.
While the leader, accompanied by two mithril-ranked adventurers, madly charged towards Shye.
‘Come, show me how you defeat me in five seconds!’
With a resolute and cold expression, Shye faced the trio, dashing forward at the right moment to reappear beneath the mithril-ranked scout class adventurer.
Shortly after, a draconic roar echoed across the forest, prompting the monsters living in the area to narrow their eyes and look toward its direction.
The mithril-ranked adventurer was naturally petrified.
However, how could the leader, despite his initial shock, let a rookie kill one of his underlings right in front of him?
Utterly furious at Shye’s audacious aggression, the assassin leader also used his [Dash] skill to reappear at Shye’s right flank, slashing his [Power Slash]-empowered tachi horizontally at Shye’s body.
Unfortunately for him, Shye was no stranger to assassinations.
He already predicted that the leader would do such a thing.
Hence, he swapped one of his greatswords, Mithra, for his ruby-tier elemental staff and cast a [Physical Barrier Lv.4] on himself followed by [Stoic], fully prepared to take a clean hit from the assassin leader in exchange for one of the guy’s lackey’s life.
*CRACK!*
A loud shatter echoed across the forest as the physical barrier lasted only for a second before being destroyed.
Unfortunately, although enough to diminish the force of the leader’s killing attack, the tachi still continued its vicious advance, landing on Shye’s body with a dull thud.
“Puhaahk!”
Shye spat out a mouthful of blood after absorbing the assassin leader’s attack.
Yet, his eyes remained as focused as a laser as he ferociously slashed on the petrified mithril-ranked assassin.
*SPURT!*
Soon after, a severed head flew across the air, rolling near the leader’s right foot as it splattered blood across the ground.
Then, before the furious leader could attack again, Shye swiftly stepped back with a cold smile.
“Heh, take me down in five seconds? Who do you think you are? Also, who do you think I am?”
