Chapter 521: Sure, I’ll Let You Go
The assassin leader wanted to retort.
However, how could he even have the time to do so when they only have five seconds?
The more time he wasted, the slimmer their chances of capturing their target became, and the higher the death toll on their side grew.
Even now, in the two-second battle sequence wherein Shye killed one of his underlings in exchange for moderate damage to his body, eight of his underlings had already been killed by the familiar spirit.
He needed to end things on his side, and fast!
“Warren, try to bind him with your control skill while I attack!”
“Roger, Team Leader Dox!”
Narrowing his eyes, Shye switched back to dual greatswords, gripping their handles tightly in preparation for Dox’s assault.
Milliseconds later, a huge yellow sword materialized above Shye, prompting him to look up as he sensed its mighty aura.
“Where are you looking, rookie?”
‘Cr*p!’
As it turned out, the sword was nothing but a realistic diversion—a mere illusion to momentarily capture his attention.
The real attack came from right in front of him.
“Surrender, arrogant brat! Herculean Split!”
Winds howled as they were forcefully parted by an enormous golden slash mark that fiercely advanced toward Shye—a difficult attack to defend, especially when he was bamboozled by the huge illusion sword.
[Your trait, [Unfazed Heart], has activated!]
‘Nightfall Reaper!’
He was caught off guard.
However, Shye wasn’t someone who would panic in such a situation, especially after acquiring a trait that would help him do so.
Without hesitation, he immediately used one of his trump cards to defend himself.
Naturally, watching Shye’s seemingly idiotic actions of facing the enormous slash mark head-on brought a cold mocking smile to Dox’s face.
A mere rookie audaciously facing one of his strongest attacks directly? Delusional!
Hence, he couldn’t believe his eyes when his Herculean Slash was split horizontally in half before dissipating into golden orbs that scattered to the four winds.
Unfortunately for Dox, Shye was aware of his possible split-second loss of focus, capitalizing on it by using [Blink] to teleport right beside the assassin leader—Mithra already exchanged for the ruby-tier elemental staff.
‘Ninth Devastation Ray!’
*FWING!*
An ear-splitting screech sounded from the location of Shye and Dox’s battle, prompting not only the assassins’ beta squads but also Zeth, to momentarily stop their battle and turn their heads to look.
‘Hoh, not bad, Master Shye.’
“T-T-TEAM LEADER DOX!!” The assassins exclaimed in utter shock and disbelief.
Their strong team leader, who was an ex-adamantite ranked adventurer, had a hole the size of a child’s forearm on his forehead—his eyes—blank and empty, staring into the distance.

Soon after, the man’s head exploded like a watermelon and his body fell to the ground—lifeless.
“Heh, end me in five seconds? Weren’t you the one who was finished?” Shye mocked with a cold smile, turning his attention to the stupefied mithril-ranked ex-adventurer who stood silly at the sides.
In truth, his attributes were still a bit short compared to the man he killed.
However, he simply had way too many skills that were hard to deal with, in addition to his instantaneous mage skill spellcasting.
Hence, the older man’s experience didn’t matter much as this was the first time he fought such a youngster with strange yet lethal abilities.
As a result, despite being ahead in terms of physical attributes, Dox was killed by Shye.
In a battle between high-level combatants, a single mistake can cost someone their life.
Naturally, with their leader gone, the assassins retreated like bandits, madly bolting in different directions.
‘Zeth, kill as many as possible.’
‘Understood, Master Shye.’
Thrilled by his master’s orders, Zeth dashed towards the fleeing assassins, ending their lives one by one before they even realized it—burning them to cinders, biting off their heads, and snapping their spines in half with vicious kicks.
Seeing that there was no problem on his familiar’s side of things, Shye shifted his focus back to the mithril-ranked assassin, who was supposed to be in front of him but had suddenly disappeared.
‘Heh, you think you can escape me? Mana Pulse!’
Azure transparent pulses scanned the surroundings, revealing a blue silhouette slowly sneaking away.
‘Hahaha, there you are, you little rat.’
Naturally, the assassin, who had no idea that Shye already knew where he was, suffered a vicious slap to the left side of his face.
The poor guy spun a few times in mid-air before rolling on the ground—eyes whited out, drooling.
‘Master, I’ve finished hunting down the mentally challenged humans. However, I regret to inform you that there were three who managed to escape.’
‘That’s fine. Great job, Zeth. I already captured this one anyway. You have a skill that inflicts [Fear] stacks, correct?’
‘Fear stacks? I do not know what that is, master. However, I do have an aura skill that strikes fear into the hearts of my opponents.’
‘Yes, that! I’ll restrain him, and together we can use our aura skills to force answers out of him.’
‘Understood, master.’
Lifting the unconscious body of the captured assassin, Shye tied the man up using stamina-draining shackles, ensuring that it would be impossible for the man to free himself.
The master and familiar then activated their aura skills, steadily increasing the [Fear] stacks over time.
Thirty minutes later, the captured assassin woke up with a splitting headache, and then, moments after opening his eyes, he screamed in utter fear.
In front of him were two demonic entities with extremely distorted and spine-chilling features.
Suddenly, one of them spoke:
“Now then, I just need to know two things. If you answer me, I’ll let you go.”
“First question, what’s the name of your organization?”
To the captured assassin’s POV, Shye’s voice sounded like a mixture of an old woman’s voice and the laughter of children—extremely unnerving.
However, the man truly wanted to live.
Hence, despite trembling in fear, he hurriedly answered.
“I-I-I’m from an organization called Black Retribution Syndicate.”
“Good, only one more question. Where’s the location of your main headquarters?”
“I-I truly don’t know where the main headquarters are. H-However, our team’s headquarters is located near Bakkbor City in the Weaven Region, at a place known as the Forgotten Vale.”
Due to the easy interrogation, Shye couldn’t help but smile.
‘Master Shye, are most humans such cowards? How could they betray their comrades in exchange for their lives? Have they no pride?’
‘Hahaha, that’s what we humans are like. However, that also makes us dangerous because many of us are willing to do anything to survive. It’s hard to wipe us out, don’t you think?’
‘Hmm… When you put it that way, I have to agree.’
“P-Please, let me go! I’ve already answered all your questions!”
Hearing the desperate assassin’s pitiful voice, Shye smiled mockingly.
“Fine, I’ll let you go. However, I will be the one to decide where you go, and I’ve decided that you’re going to… the afterlife!”
