Chapter 522: Tamed Monster Versus Familiar Spirit
‘Sigh…what an ineffective limit test…’ Shye sighed in disappointment as he glanced at his familiar spirit. ‘I should’ve taken on a stronger (S) ranked creature…’
He believed that an entry-level (S) ranked creature would more or less allow him to at least estimate how far Zeth could go in combat.
However, Shye never imagined that even an (S) ranked Void Elk, which was near the top of the monsters’ food chain, would be instantly killed by his familiar using a simple stomp to its fragile spine.
He didn’t even get the chance to appraise it.
The elk underestimated Zeth because the mare appeared much smaller and less menacing than other (S) ranked monstrous creatures.
Unfortunately, this one mistake cost the Void Elk its life, giving the duchess access to its fragile back.
Had their target creature not been excessively prideful in nature, things might’ve been a bit dicier.
‘Fret not, master. It would be pointless to test my limits anyway as I do not have any. I will continuously improve at a rate that would be difficult to believe and before you know it, the information you gathered would be outdated once more. Besides, we will be together for quite some time so there would be numerous opportunities for you to test my capabilities. No need to be hasty.’ Zeth consoled as she galloped towards another adventurer zone.
They’ve easily completed the (S) ranked quest and were now heading over to Nookie’s training area for a quick (S) ranked corpse delivery.
After around three hours of nonstop, mach-speed travel, the master-familiar duo arrived.
Unfortunately, Nookie was nowhere to be found.
‘Hmm…maybe the little imp was hunting again…’ Shye mused. ‘Never mind, I’ll just summon him.’
Imagining detonating the black seal, Shye put his middle finger and thumb together in a snapping motion.
He then waited for a few minutes while maintaining the finger pose.
Soon enough, a loud yet stiff wyvern roar echoed from above, prompting Shye and Zeth to look.
“M-Master! Nookie is back. Why did Master summon Nookie?”
“Ahh, there you are. I’m just here to give you another corpse you can practice on.”
Naturally, Nookie appreciated Shye’s concern regarding the advancement of its puppeteering skills, despite its master always threatening it with death.
“Gratitude, master.” Nookie customarily bowed, glancing nervously at the black-furred mare shortly after.
‘Hoh, was this the little imp you were talking about, Master Shye?’
‘Yes, the one that had the potential to control multiple corpses stronger than the ones you fought back at the death zone.’
‘I see, let me test this little one, then.’
Walking closer to Nookie, Zeth activated her aura.
“M-Master, who is this ugly horse? Why is it walking to me? Shoo! Bad horsey! Away! There! Go there!”
What she didn’t anticipate was that, although Nookie spoke the same language as her master, she could understand the little imp’s words, even though she couldn’t comprehend other humans.
Hence, for the first time since she was summoned, the Duchess of the Dusk was infuriated.
‘Master Shye, can I teach this little imp a lesson for daring to treat me like this?’
‘Pfft…Haha…y-yeah, you can go ahead and teach him a lesson. But don’t hurt the little guy too much.’
‘Understood, master.’
“Ha! Y-you think Nookie is scared? I warn you, ugly horsey! I will fight you!”

Unfortunately, Zeth, despite understanding the little necrollin’s words, couldn’t reply and was forced to stay quiet and continue threatening Nookie with her aura.
“T-That’s it! Master! Ugly Horsey is attacking me! Nookie will protect self!”
Shortly after, the ember wyvern’s corpse swooped in from the skies, taking Nookie with it as they flew higher.
The ground then rumbled as multiple corpses appeared from behind random trees and thickets—most of them larger than Zeth.
“You forced Nookie! Ugly horsey!”
‘Hoh, this little imp is rather courageous, contrary to its seemingly small and cowardly body.’ Zeth inwardly praised, bringing a smile to Shye’s face.
Nookie was indeed like that.
Even when it was cornered by him in the past, it even dared spit on him, despite numerous threats, only submitting due to the [Tame] skill.
The necrollin was truly a fierce little one.
‘Zeth, try not to destroy the corpses. We need this little guy to train and be able to command more of them.’
‘Understood, master.’
After responding, Zeth suddenly disappeared and reappeared behind the corpse of the (B) ranked Forest Troll, kicking it using its hind legs as lightly as it could.
*BANG!* *CRACK!*
A loud cracking sound echoed across Nookie’s training area as the troll’s spine snapped, causing it to fall over limply.
‘What? I only kicked it lightly…what a fragile constitution.’ Zeth inwardly complained, reappearing beside another body and headbutting it.
Seeing its small army of monsters crumble without even catching sight of its opponent, Nookie gritted its teeth and made a decision that was both insane and sensible: to manipulate its corpse army to stay close together.
Unfortunately, it did little to stop the ugly horsey’s rampage.
Zeth didn’t care one bit about the monstrous creatures grouping.
If not for Shye’s orders, she would’ve already incinerated all of them with her flaming tornadoes.
Still, despite holding back, the damage she did was massive, leaving some of the corpses unusable.
“KKIIIHHH! Frustrating!” Nookie exclaimed in utter fury.
The initial fear it felt was now gone as its vengeful nature consumed it once more, causing its mind to work faster as it thought of ways to get back at Zeth.
Ultimately, realizing it couldn’t counter the mare’s unparalleled speed, Nookie directed its corpses to attack the area behind one another.
This strategy led to an unexpected outcome that made Shye’s eyes widen in surprise.
Beneath one of the ape-type corpse’s gigantic fists was Zeth, smashed deep into the ground.
“UKYII!! That’s what Horsey gets for messing with Nookie!” The little necrollin celebrated, thinking that it had already defeated the hateful horse.
‘Hoh, this little imp is quite creative. Since it managed to catch me, the Duchess of the Dusk, one time, I shall make things easy for it.’ was what Zeth telepathically said to Shye.
However, it was evident that it was pissed.
Sure enough, despite saying that it would make things easy for Nookie, Zeth took things a bit more seriously.
It didn’t even care about Shye’s orders anymore, destroying the corpses whenever necessary.
As a result, after merely thirty seconds, only Nookie and its Ember Wyvern Corpse were left.
“KIIIIIIIHHH!!! UGLY HORSEY!! MY POOR CORPSES!!” Nookie exclaimed in a mix of rage and sadness as most of its beloved collection was mercilessly destroyed right in front of it.
Unfortunately, the little necrollin unknowingly made another mistake: assuming that Zeth couldn’t fly.
For a moment, the mare of dusk’s seemingly deformed wings transformed into majestic black wings, enabling it to take flight and temporarily gallop through the air, madly charging towards the enraged necrollin.
“UKYI? UKYI!!!”
The last thing Nookie saw was a black hoof before it fell into the embrace of oblivion.
