Chapter 523: Happy Nookie
Warm liquid slid down the unconscious little necrollin’s throat.
Shortly after, it woke up with a mild headache, clutching its head as it slightly struggled to stand.
Nookie still couldn’t make sense of the situation.
However, upon seeing that most of its beloved corpses were destroyed along with one of its favorites, another (A-) ranked creature called Carriem, whose physique allowed it to easily carry corpses back to the training zone, the little necrollin’s heart was ripped into pieces.
A few moments later, tears streamed down both sides of Nookie’s little cheeks.
It worked hard to increase the number of corpses in its possession.
Unfortunately, some random hateful black horse suddenly came with his master and destroyed almost everything it worked for.
“Ukiii…master…why did you bring this horsey here…ukiii…my poor Carriem…Little Brechy…Big Monch…Nookie is sorry…Nookie couldn’t protect…ukii…”
Witnessing the little imp’s pitiful appearance and hearing its heartbroken cries, Shye’s heart was consumed by guilt.
He thought it would be fun to test Nookie’s prowess against his new King-class familiar.
Even if a few corpses were destroyed, the little imp could always hunt new ones to increase the number of monstrous creature corpses in its possession.
However, what Shye hadn’t expected was that necrollin puppeteers would value each corpse as though they were its children, not caring what rank the corpse was.
The one called Little Brechy was nothing but a small (C-) ranked creature that Nookie was using to scout the path ahead—borderline useless.
Yet, the little necrollin still cried for it now that it was destroyed by one of Zeth’s vicious kicks.
Naturally, although he always used the black seal to threaten the slightly unruly little imp to make it obey his orders, to Shye, Nookie was now a valuable comrade.
In fact, he liked the little necrollin.
Hence, seeing it cry so pitifully for the first time, Shye vowed to never do such experiments again and respect the little necrollin’s corpse puppets.
Shye was about to speak.
However, before he could do so, Zeth suddenly galloped in a random direction.
‘Master Shye, Give me an hour, I shall return.’
Nodding at his familiar spirit, Shye shifted his focus back to the crying little imp.
“N-Nookie, I apologize for allowing things to continue. I promise to never do such a thing again. I just wanted to see how you would fare against a familiar spirit that could defeat (S-) ranked monsters easily.”
Hearing its master’s words, Nookie couldn’t help but momentarily stop crying.
It slightly liked what it just heard.
Since the ugly horsey was way stronger than an (S-) ranked monster, then landing a hit on it meant that…
“To be honest, I was surprised when you landed a hit on Zeth, a solid one at that! Maybe I was underestimating you all along, Nookie. Who would’ve thought that you were actually so capable?”
“M-Master thinks that Nookie is strong?”
“After that performance, I can’t help but think so. After all, even those (S-) ranked monsters couldn’t land a single hit on my familiar spirit. I apologize for allowing her to destroy so many of your puppets; it won’t happen again. Also, I’ve brought you a gift. I hope this will at least make up for some of your losses.”
Naturally, watching Shye, who treated him rather harshly in the past, now speak with a hint of concern, the little imp felt slightly better.
Then, when Shye revealed the corpse of the (S) ranked Void Elk, all the sadness in its heart was completely swept away, vanishing like thin smoke.

“UKYI!! M-Master! This corpse is for Nookie?”
“Yes, I hope that next time you hunt, you prioritize the higher-ranked monstrous creatures, as I need you to build up a strong army.”
“Understood, master!”
Just the Void Elk was enough for Nookie to start rebuilding his army and continue training to control more corpses at the same time from a longer range.
Hence, when Zeth arrived, the little necrollin was stunned silly.
The dusk mare was dragging the mane of an (A) ranked monstrous creature called Khimaira with the head of a lion, the head of a snake as a tail, and the wings of a wyvern.
She even made sure that the corpse was intact.
Arriving in front of the shocked imp, Zeth subtly offered the corpse to Nookie.
“H-Horsey, this for me?”
Unfortunately, all the duchess could do was nod as she could only speak to her master through telepathy.
“UKYI!!! Thank you, horsey!”
Zeth simply turned around and left once more, seemingly ignoring the necrollin puppeteer’s words of gratitude, leaving it confused.
However, when the duchess returned around seven minutes later carrying the corpse of another (A) ranked creature, Nookie understood why she left, almost wanting to hug the once “ugly” but now “beautiful black” horsey.
The same thing happened two more times, giving the little imp a total of four (A) ranked creatures before Zeth stopped.
Adding Shye’s (S) ranked gift, Nookie now had six usable corpses in its possession: its favorite Ember Wyvern, the four (A) ranked corpses, and the (S) ranked Void Elk.
In terms of actual value, the little imp’s six-creature army now surpassed everything it had before its fight with Zeth, and it knew this.
Thus, it was as now happy as a clam, eager to start controlling the corpses and start hunting once more.
“Nookie, with your abilities, I trust that this small army is enough for you to grow it, correct?”
“Yes, master!”
“Great. Now, make sure to steer clear of humans, alright? If an adventurer party is close to the vicinity of your training area, stop everything you’re doing at hide until they leave, understood?”
“Understood, master!”
“Good. Here, take this.”
Retrieving a high-quality distress signal talisman from his inventory, Shye handed it to Nookie, who was a bit confused.
“If a party of high-ranked adventurers tries to hunt you, crush this talisman and do your best to survive and hide. Zeth and I will come rushing to help you.”
It wasn’t illegal to kill someone else’s tamed creature outside the premises of a city.
Hence, people might try to kill Nookie.
It could never hurt to give the little imp a life-saving item just in case.
“Well then, Nookie, continue to train here and grow your army. I’ll drop by to check on your progress and situation once in a while.”
