Chapter 527: The True Ace
“T-T-THE COLZEN KHIMAIRA IS DOWN!! IT’S STRUGGLING TO GET UP, LEAKING A LOT OF MANA PARTICLES! WHO COULD’VE IMAGINED THAT MAIA CROWLEY WOULD GRAVELY WOUND THE KHIMAIRA IN THE DECISIVE MOMENT?!”
Spittle flew in all directions, and tables cracked as Bart, utterly exhilarated, screamed his heart out, his right foot planted firmly on his commentator’s desk—his eyes—wide open.
Instead of racking her brain to figure out how to survive, she focused instead on devising a way to wound the enormous (A) ranked simulation.
Truly mad.
Meanwhile, on the other half of the sphere, blue particles also leaked out of the Eusford Khimaira’s paw and face due to the return damage of Varis’ shield.
However, there was a heaven-and-earth difference as on the Eusford side, an azure ray of light shot out of the dome, materializing into a confidently smiling Varis, offering a fist-bump to another male Eusford representative.
Utterly confused, the male Eusford representative bumped fists with their ace rather unenthusiastically.
Naturally, sensing that something was wrong, Varis quickly scanned his eyes over the entire Eusford camp.
None of them were happy, and he couldn’t understand why.
‘Why are they looking at the stage as though Maia Crowley was able to sur–?!’
Turning around, Varis’ eyes almost popped out of their sockets, his mouth agape as he stared dumbfoundedly at the wobbling Maia on the stage.
She looked exhausted and weak as heck.
Yet, there she was, standing gloriously on the stage with her right arm held high in a victory pose.
“UOOHHH!! SENIOR MAIA!!”
“SENIOR MAIA IS MIGHTY!!”
“COLZEN! COLZEN! COLZEN!”
The Colzen crowd erupted into wild cheers as yet again, their ace representative with the surname of Crowley turned an almost impossible situation around, tying the match up 2-2.
On the other hand, those from and who were cheering for Eusford were downcast.
They haven’t lost yet.
However, they didn’t seem to have the heart to continue.
“V-V-VARIS HECHANOVA HAS BEEN ELIMINATED!! THE EUSFORD ACE FAILS TO SURVIVE THE FEROCIOUS DIVE ATTACK!! ONCE AGAIN, AN ACE REPRESENTATIVE SURNAMED CROWLEY RUINS EUSFORD ACADEMY’S PLANS!!
Hearing Bart’s words, veins popped at the sides of Eusford ace representative’s head.
“HOW?! HOW THE F*CK DID SHE SURVIVE THAT?! EVEN I, A SHIELD USER COULD NOT, SO WHAT COULD SHE, A SCOUT, EVEN DO?!” Varis erupted.
He couldn’t make sense of the situation.
Dodging a dive-bomb attack with such a vast effective radius in a limited space like the Valenzia Main Stage was impossible.
Hence, the only thing his inexperienced mind could conceive was that Maia had used some sort of protective item to survive.
Varis expected that his teammates would side with him and also voice out their frustrations.
To his surprise, they remained silent, making him feel more distressed and humiliated.
Luckily, the instant replay, that played mere moments later, told him all he needed to know about how Maia survived.
Watching how her unwavering heart, astonishing speed, and intense focus enabled her to decisively tilt her body and spin mid-air, carving a long, deep wound from the Khimaira’s right front paw to its right flank, left Varis gaping in awe.

He had to admit.
At that moment, Maia Crowley looked like a hero.
Clenching his fists in frustration and slight resignation, Varis remembered his position.
He was Eusford’s ace.
He couldn’t allow himself to feel dejected, as there was still another match ahead.
“Tch, so that’s how, huh?” Varis said, turning around to face his teammates. “No matter. She fought well. However, it doesn’t mean we’ve already lost. There’s still one more match, and judging by the damage she sustained, ten minutes won’t be enough for her to fully recover. We have a fair chance of winning. So, wipe that depressed look off your faces!”
For the next ten minutes, the Eusford representatives huddled and brainstormed, thinking of ways to effectively defeat Maia Crowley in a one-versus-one.
On the other hand, Maia simply waved enthusiastically to her big brother before entering the Colzen Academy station.
She then drank some potions, lay down on the bed, covered her eyes with a face towel, and took a short ten-minute nap.
Her teammates, who were also already her close friends, knew that this was her recovery routine.
Hence, they didn’t say anything and simply allowed her to rest with smiles on their faces.
She saved them again.
Ten minutes later, someone woke her up.
Standing up from the bed, Maia yawned and stretched as she walked out of the academy station, seemingly still very sleepy.
The Colzen crowd found her relaxed actions very cute, as Maia had blossomed into a fine young woman.
However, naturally, those who supported Eusford found her actions rather arrogant.
After all, the next match would decide who becomes the champion.
Yet, despite such huge stakes, Maia seemed very calm, as though the thought of losing never crossed her mind.
Well, they were partially correct.
Maia indeed had quite the confidence to believe that she would never lose in a duel against those from the same generation.
However, a huge part of why she was so calm was because she didn’t give a single f*ck whether she wins or loses.
As long as she gets to face a strong opponent that pushes her to fight at her full potential, she will be happy as a clam, even if she loses.
This was where her personality differed from Siegfried’s.
Although both were battle-maniacs, Siegfried was a bit prideful. He would still be happy if he lost to a strong opponent, but there would always be a touch of frustration in his heart due to the loss.
Maia, on the other hand, didn’t care about the results at all.
As long as she believed she learned something from the battle, she wouldn’t feel a hint of regret or frustration.
Ascending the stage, Maia performed some last-minute stretches with an excited smile on her face before pulling her dagger out of its sheath.
This specific action, despite looking harmless, made her opponent even more nervous.
He could never hope to be that calm in front of such huge stakes.
Still, Eusford’s championship was in his hands.
He couldn’t allow himself to keep trembling with anxiety.
Pulling his dagger out, the representative named Koochi assumed his battle stance, readying to yell a battle cry in an attempt to calm his nerves.
“Maia Crowley! I shall put an end to your undefeated record!”
Unfortunately, his voice cracked at the wrong time.
