Chapter 528: New Legend
“Koochi! Focus! What are you doing?!” Varis exclaimed in frustration.
They needed their scout representative to be at the top of his game, but in this crucial final match, he’s behaving like an incompetent fool who can’t fight.
All because his voice cracked during his battle cry!
Although they couldn’t deny that it was funny, in their opinion, Koochi had to set the embarrassment aside and focus on the battle momentarily.
Maybe he could even salvage his reputation if he defeated the now-renowned Maia Crowley.
Unfortunately for Eusford Academy, it seemed that the championship would slip from their hands this year despite being so close.
Koochi was somehow able to win his internal battle.
However, he was losing the duel horribly.
Maia, despite not a hundred percent recovered, moved like a phantom.
There were times when it looked like Koochi would be able to deal a significant amount of damage to her only for the targeted body part to move or shift at the last second with pinpoint precision.
It was as though Maia could perfectly judge the distance.
Well, she indeed could.
With her incredible focus, impeccable combat sense, and flawless dueling techniques, combined with her love and passion for one-on-one combat, Maia fearlessly dared to dodge nearly every attack by a hair’s breadth in her past battles, from her first year as a student to her current fourth year.
Naturally, she f*cked up quite a ton of times in the past.
However, due to constant high levels of training to do so, she rarely misjudges the distance now.
As a result, Koochi, despite trying his best to have his dagger touch Maia’s simulated body, failed time and again—his heart wavering with each miss—his morale plummeting.
He couldn’t believe how huge the gap between him and Maia was in terms of one-on-one combat.
Koochi studied combat at a top-tier academy in their region, and although Colzen was now rapidly climbing the ranks, it remained hard for everyone on the Eusford side to believe there could be such a significant gap between two top-tier scout-class students.
Judging by the difference in skills, it was as though Maia had been trained by a reclusive master from another region.
Well, they couldn’t be farther from the truth, as everything Maia had was obtained by her through sheer passion and determination to become stronger.
Her inspiration? She wanted to help her big brother search for their parents.
“Puhaahk!”
…Cornered near the edges of the stage, Koochi suffered from a clean side kick, rolling on the ground the next moment with a painful expression.
Naturally, Maia wouldn’t allow him to recover.
She quickly bolted towards her fallen opponent and tried to finish the guy off with a [Bloody Stab] to the throat.
However, Koochi wasn’t just some random scout either and was able to barely dodge her vicious stab by leaning his neck to the right.
Unfortunately for him, he didn’t expect what Maia would do next.
Like a four-legged beast, Maia planted her limbs and stabbed her dagger on the ground, using it to swiftly maneuver and make an instantaneous “u-turn”, dashing towards the unprepared Koochi once more.
‘I’ve always wanted to try this in a duel!’
With an excited grin on her face, Maia cut off her opponent’s right forearm, causing Koochi’s dagger to fall to the ground.

“AAARGHH!!”
A scream of agony echoed across the arena.
Although the simulated dome protects one’s life, it doesn’t eliminate the sensation of pain.
This made battles within the dome safe yet realistic.
Due to this, the scout representative from Eusford fully experienced the sensation of having his right forearm cut off, completely seizing his focus and attention.
In the next moment, Maia’s left forearm slipped underneath Koochi’s chin, while her right arm moved to complete the rear naked choke, causing both of them to fall to the ground—Maia underneath Koochi.
Recognizing that she had fully secured her opponent’s back and neck, she began to slowly inhale, thereby intensifying the choke.
Naturally, by this point, the Eusford representative realized he would be choked unconscious if he didn’t tap out.
Hence, he subconsciously did after feeling his consciousness slowly slipping away.
Unfortunately, in the Adventurer Academy Competition, there was no such rule as a “tap out”.
The torture would continue until someone turns into an azure ray of light.
This was what Maia meant by “she always wanted to try this”: choking an opponent until they die.
“W-W-WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HAPPENING! F-FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE HISTORY OF THE ADVENTURER ACADEMY COMPETITION, BARE ARMS AND HANDS WOULD DECIDE THE RESULTS OF THE FINAL MATCH OF THE GRAND FINALS INSTEAD OF WEAPONS!!”
Bart exclaimed in utter astonishment.
He had been the official host and commentator of the Adventurer Academy Competition for more than two decades.
Yet, he had never seen such an ending, especially in the final match of the grand finals.
Hence, he was wide-eyed as he watched Koochi slowly go limp.
The man was already unable to protect himself.
However, due to the competition’s rules, Maia was allowed to continue, despite the referee feeling uneasy doing so.
With a rather eerie smile on her face, the Colzen ace choked harder and harder.
Soon after, a nauseating cracking sound echoed from Koochi’s neck, prompting the Eusford Academy deans to slam their armrests in utter rage.
This was very humiliating for them.
Luckily for the Eusford camp, the Colzen deans didn’t want to create unnecessary blood rivalries.
Hence, crushing a short-distance communication talisman, Dean Privett told Maia to stop.
‘Sigh…I thought I would finally be able to finish someone with a chokehold…Oh well, the deans know best!’
Consoling herself with such thoughts, Maia released the unconscious Koochi, finishing him off with a clean stab to the forehead.
Watching the azure ray of light materialize into a fine and healthy Eusford representative, Bart snapped out of his stupor.
“A-AND THAT’S IT!! FROM A SEEMINGLY UNRECOVERABLE SITUATION, YET ANOTHER STUDENT WITH THE SURNAME CROWLEY SAVES COLZEN ACADEMY FROM THE BRINK OF DEFEAT AND CARRIES THEM TO VICTORY!! MAIA CROWLEY, THE ACE REPRESENTATIVE OF COLZEN ACADEMY, CARVES OUT HER OWN LEGEND!!”
