Chapter 535: A Talented Individual’s Blues
“That’s about it, do you have any questions?”
“No, these tasks are fairly easy, though. Are you sure you only need me to do these? I can help with a few more of yours.
“No need. Since I was the one who established the division, it is only natural that I burden myself with its paperwork. You focus on becoming stronger.”
“Well, in that case, shall we go on a quest together?”
“Sounds great! Just like old times!”
Having decided to go on a quest together, Shye and Siegfried left the deputy division leader’s office, causing their division members to turn their heads toward them.
Many were unsure whether to greet Siegfried, as some found it hard to accept that Reginald, who had been with them from the start, was replaced so suddenly, utterly unaware that Reginald had been wishing for a replacement every night.
Naturally, Shye noticed their actions and subtle whispers.
Yet, he couldn’t do anything to assist Siegfried, as Siegfried needed to earn the members’ acknowledgment through his own strength.
‘Well, there’s no need to worry about Sieg too much. He’s a super rookie in his own right. I’m sure he’ll earn the members’ stamps of approval on his own.’ Shye mused glancing at his friend, whose face was as relaxed as ever.
He found it impossible for the guy to be an enemy, as he entered Colzen Academy the same way as everyone else: through the entrance examination.
Moreover, before his admission to the academy, he was nothing but a street rat who wasn’t even worth a second glance.
Therefore, in Shye’s mind, Reginald’s claims couldn’t be further from the truth. However…
“It’s best to stay vigilant and careful, so I’ll keep an eye on Sieg’s actions…”
Arriving at the quest board, Shye unhesitatingly grabbed an (S-) ranked quest, leaving Siegfried slightly taken aback.
“Hey, Crowley, I mean, I’m up for the challenge but can I really tag along on such a high-ranked quest?”
“Hmm? Yeah, if you think you can keep up, we can even take on an (S) ranked quest.”
“…”
For a few moments, Siegfried couldn’t reply.
He was someone who wasn’t scared of death.
However, what he was scared of was dying due to stupid reasons.
There was absolutely no need for him to rush things too much, as not only was he still young, but he was also already strong for his age.
He didn’t have any particular reason to grow stronger as quickly as possible, except to catch up to his old friend and rival, Shye.
However, that was not a valid reason for him to recklessly risk his life.
The right time will come for him to confront the legendary (S) ranked creatures.
For now…
“No, let’s go with this (S-) ranked quest.”
“Hmm, alright then.”
This time, Shye had no intention of allowing Zeth to help, and for two good reasons:
First, their combat and survival skills would improve more quickly if they hunted the creatures on their own.

Second, he decided to heed Reginald’s warning and observe Siegfried before revealing more of his secrets.
It wasn’t that he didn’t trust Siegfried.
It was just that the stakes were simply too high to let personal feelings cloud his judgment.
He just chose the safer and more logical option.
“Crap… an (S-) ranked Dragrex, huh? The strongest creature I’ve fought alone was barely an (A) rank. Now that I’m about to face an average (S-) one, I can’t help but feel both nervous and excited, hahaha!”
Hearing Siegfried’s words, Shye was taken aback.
He found it hard to believe that his friend, without the assistance of a cheat like the Flashy Adventurer System, was able to enhance his attributes and combat techniques to the level where he could battle (A) ranked creatures like the Ember Wyvern at such a young age.
Given Siegfried’s personality, he likely didn’t participate in the Rookie Adventurer Competition of his own accord, believing it would be a waste of time.
If he had, second place might not have necessarily gone to Damien.
With his luck and determination, he might have even given Shye a challenge, especially since Shye was unfortunate enough to barely encounter any high-ranked creatures during the two-week Rookie Adventurer Competition hunt.
‘Tch, I get it already. He’s the true son of heaven, not me.’ Shye inwardly sighed.
Deep down, he knew he was a fraud, relying solely on his recently unlocked talent and the Flashy Adventurer System to surpass others.
Given that his parents were undeniably talented, he might have become a respected adamantite-ranked adventurer over his lifetime and achieved his dream life regardless.
However, achieving his current strength and accomplishments at such a young age would be exceedingly difficult, if not impossible.
He might still be considered a genius, but likely a second-rate one, destined to play second or third fiddle to more naturally gifted individuals.
His little sister’s story, though, was different; it was clear she was far more talented than him, possibly even more than Siegfried and the others.
‘Sigh…why am I thinking of such depressing things, don’t I have a few good qualities as well? Like…uh…hmm…Well, it’s probably better to focus on the quest first! Such internal struggles can be resolved later! Yes, hahaha!’
“Hahahaha! I truly can’t help but admire your outlook, Sieg. Well then, shall we head out?”
“Let’s go.”
Under thousands of curious gazes from their guildmates, Shye and Siegfried exited the guild headquarters to embark on their first duo quest in a long time.
Unfortunately, without Zeth’s assistance, they had to travel the conventional way: walking and using teleporters to move between cities, aiming to reach their destination quickly—the Magna Death Zone.
There, adventurers spotted the nest of the Dragrex that had repeatedly crossed into expert adventurer zones, disrupting the power balance by hunting and killing apex (A) ranked creatures in those areas.
After approximately four days of continuous travel with minimal rest, the duo arrived at the desolate lobby of the Magna Death Zone.
Cold winds blew as tumbleweeds crossed the barren landscape.
The sight of dead trees and the cracked cement floor did little to ease Siegfried’s slightly nervous heart.
Taking one deep breath, he spoke: “I’m prepared. Let’s go in, Crowley.”
