*BANG!*
Clouds of dust billowed once again as the two young adventurers narrowly avoided the Dragrex’s gaping maw.
Its dive attack missed Shye and Siegfried, causing the creature to stagger wildly on the ground.
This allowed the two youngsters to reposition at a safe distance.
“Sieg! Can you capture its attention while I attack from the back?”
Hearing his buddy’s words, Siegfried felt rather happy but also a bit nervous.
‘Me as the decoy, huh?’ he mused.
It was clear that between the two of them, Shye was the one who could deal more damage with each attack.
Therefore, it made perfect sense for him, being faster but physically weaker, to act as the bait.
It was an important yet dangerous role.
Despite his current shortcomings, Shye still trusted him to take on this perilous task, for which he was grateful.

He preferred facing dangers head-on rather than feeling like a pathetic, useless sidekick.
“Leave it to me!”
Responding with a resolute gaze, Siegfried dashed towards the clouds of smoke, emerging close to the Dragrex’s face.
“False Draconian, die!” he shouted, successfully capturing the enormous creature’s attention.
This allowed Shye to fade into the background and wait for the perfect moment to strike.
…Stabbing his katana with nary a hint of hesitation towards the Dragrex’s eyes, Siegfried’s speed suddenly increased mid-air, catching the enormous creature off-guard.
Shockingly, although the katana managed to pierce the crawling draconian’s eye, the wound wasn’t deep enough to completely blind it.
The creature could still see with its right eye, albeit somewhat unclearly due to the blood.
Still, being stabbed in the eye naturally hurt, and the Dragrex was no exception to the rule, roaring in agony as it smashed its face with its enormous paws in an attempt to squish Siegfried to meatpaste.
Unfortunately for the enormous creature, Siegfried’s combat sense was way too high for him to be caught by such a clumsy move.
In the end, it was the Dragrex who was hurt by its own attack, falling on its back due to its own force.
*Whistle~*
Watching Siegfried’s immaculate opening attack, Shye couldn’t help but whistle in admiration.
It seemed that his close friend was still as reliable as ever.
‘Oops, I can’t idle around too long, or Sieg might end up in danger…’
Shye had the option to deal a massive amount of damage to the Dragrex using his [Epic]-tier skills.
However, the two of them wouldn’t grow if he simply relied on his trump cards every time he fought high-ranked creatures.
Worse, he might even develop a dependency on them, which was definitely not a good idea.
Hence, Shye made a rule for himself to never use his trump cards on (S-) ranked creatures.
Meanwhile, in the area once filled with trees and shrubbery, now cleared, Siegfried stood before the Dragrex, which had just recovered from its fall, its right eye still bleeding.
His previously nervous expression seemed to dissipate into thin air, replaced by his usual battle-crazed smile.
Realizing that his agility would at least grant him a decent chance to survive for a while against the (S-) ranked Dragrex, Siegfried’s fighting spirit was not only ignited but also blossomed into a roaring flame.
Part of him even wished he could battle the Dragrex alone to test himself to the very limit.
Unfortunately, despite his eagerness, he knew that it would be reckless and selfish to do so.
Hence, he decided to stick to the plan for now and act as the bait to allow the main attacker, Shye, to deal huge amounts of damage to the monstrous creature.
…After a brief standoff, the Dragrex lunged wildly toward Siegfried again, shattering his thoughts of attempting to take one down alone anytime soon.
Its enormous jaws opened, locking the space around Siegfried and preventing him from dodging.
This left Siegfried with no choice but to face its claw-smash attack head-on.
‘Crap! I underestimated it!’ He inwardly cursed, readying himself to crush his life-saving Safeguard Talisman, which would protect him from a single attack, no matter how powerful.
It was a great item, and he felt that it was a pity that he had to use it here.
‘Well, I should take this as a lesson, I suppose.’
He hadn’t known that high-ranked creatures could lock the space around their target. ‘
This meant he either needed a spatial repositioning skill like [Blink] to escape or the ability to withstand its attack head-on.
Naturally, he attempted to use a charge of his [Spatial Shift] skill to escape, but unfortunately, the Dragrex’s ability prevented any spatial pocket from opening in the locked-down area.
As a result, he was forced to crush his life-saving talisman.
However, just before he could do so, a sudden loud noise of solid metal clashing against the Dragrex’s tough scales echoed across the clearing.
The enormous creature soon staggered sideways, nearly falling.
To Siegfried’s shock, a closer look revealed two huge gashes on the Dragrex’s neck, bleeding profusely.
The scales around the wounds were either destroyed or bent.
“Sieg! How are you feeling?”
