However, he naturally wouldn’t say such things, as it was not only somewhat irrelevant to Shye’s question about his physical condition but also rather embarrassing to admit out loud.

“I’m fine, thanks for the timely help. Now that I’ve seen its spatial locking skill, I won’t get caught a second time. You can rest assured. Let’s stick to the plan.”

“I’d prefer to stick to the plan, but… I doubt this enormous creature will simply let me, the one who inflicted such a deep wound, escape so easily.”

Hearing Shye’s words, Siegfried frowned.

‘So I’ll be the main attacker this time, huh? Will I even be able to damage it?’

He wasn’t one to overthink, though, opting instead to let his attacks answer his questions.

Watching the wounded Dragrex charge towards Shye in a furious frenzy, Siegfried felt his blood run cold.

This Dragrex was only an (S-) ranked monstrous creature, yet, it’s already this hard to kill.

He wasn’t a stranger to Shye’s strength.

Hence, he found it unbelievable that even a full-powered blow from his close friend, squarely landing on the monstrous creature’s neck, failed to kill it.

Heck, forget about dying; the darned monster still had ample strength to go on a frenzied rampage.

‘Tch, what am I thinking about? Focus!’

…The enormous Dragrex attacked Shye with consecutive claw smashes, leaving moderately deep mini-craters on the ground.

Unfortunately, none of its claw smashes hit as everything was either dodged, parried, or blocked by Shye.

After his duel with his former instructor, Fienna, Shye was reminded that he shouldn’t slack off on combat techniques.

Therefore, while his movements weren’t as fluid as Siegfried’s, his adaptable fighting style—fluid like water at times, solid as a mountain at others, and fierce like fire—enabled him to engage the Dragrex on equal footing.

This gave Siegfried lots of openings to exploit; ones he would naturally capitalize on.

Rushing towards the Dragrex, which had narrowly missed another claw strike and now had its back exposed to him, Siegfried swiftly used his ultimate skill, [Seraphim’s Rage], enhancing both his strength and appearance.

He now once again looked like a valiant angel warrior from ancient stories.

‘Celestial Cut!’

Swinging his golden glowing katana vertically, scorching red blood splattered across the ground as Siegfried’s blade effortlessly bypassed the tough scales, dealing direct damage to the Dragrex’s flesh.

Unfortunately, as the katana lost its glow, it also stopped penetrating deeper into the creature’s tail, leaving Siegfried slightly frustrated.

‘Tch, I can’t even take its tail with my killing skill?’

Siegfried aimed for its tail for three reasons:

The first was because the Dragrex’s tail was rather slim and was probably easier to severe compared to the other body parts.

Even if he was considerably weaker than Shye in terms of raw strength, he believed that he could at least cut its tail clean off with his ultimate skill, which unfortunately didn’t happen as he had expected.

The second reason was to neutralize one of its most troublesome attacks, the tail swipe, thereby making its basic attacking patterns more predictable, limited to claw smashes and monstrous dives.

As for the third, it was to weaken it through blood loss.

Slim as its tail might be, it was still a body part that would bleed heavily once severed.

His plan ended up only half succeeding, though, as the tail remained half intact but it was now painful for the Dragrex to use it for attacking.

Moreover, a considerable amount of blood flowed from the moderately deep wound, weakening the enormous creature over time.

“Great job, Sieg!”

Upon hearing Shye’s words of praise, Siegfried snapped out of his disappointed state, enabling him to respond to the Dragrex’s furious counterattack.

‘Crap!’

Realizing that a huge flaming ball of ultra-condensed mana was aimed towards him, Siegfried swiftly flapped his wings and flew higher.

The enormous creature had equally swift reflexes, however, and was able to readjust its aim on time.

The winds howled as they violently parted, clearing a path for the blazing ball that viciously hurtled toward the loathsome ratty attacker now gliding through the air.

‘That’s right, attack me…’ Siegfried inwardly thought as he waited for the ball to arrive.

Then, at the last moment, he vanished into a spatial pocket, causing the enormous fiery ball to explode in the sky, temporarily replacing its serene blue hues with a raging orange.

Unfortunately for the Dragrex, it had no time to feel frustrated before a heavy force struck its forehead, slamming its face into the ground and generating clouds of dust.

This was Shye’s [Half-moon Slash], its silver arc empowered by a single charge of [Boost], striking squarely on the Dragrex’s forehead.

*ROAR!*

Furious after being struck repeatedly without managing to land a single attack of its own, the enormous creature roared, ready to use its ultimate skill, [Death’s Whisper Lv.4 (Unique].

It was once again interrupted, though, as a youngster reminiscent of a combat angel suddenly materialized right in front of its left eye.

“Surely this would at least take your left eye, no?” Siegfried said as he plunged his katana, coated in a golden aura, into the creature’s eye.

Sadly, it was only able to penetrate shallowly into the eye, unable to continue.

However, Siegfried already anticipated that this would happen, and was already prepared to give his attack a little follow-up.

‘Rush Stab!’

*SPURT!*

This time, although Siegfried’s katana only penetrated slightly more than his initial attack, it was enough to sever a crucial optic nerve, leaving the Dragrex blind in its left eye.

*ROAR!*

The creature roared in agony, its cry cut short by another, heavier stab that penetrated deeply into its skull but not deeply enough to cause any real damage.

‘Gravitational Drain!’

The penetration was deep enough for Shye to cast one of his spine-chilling mage skills, quickly sapping the life from the Dragrex through his dual greatswords.

Although the skill would come out weaker without an elemental staff, its point-blank casting range more than compensated for the lack of potency.

Soon, under Siegfried’s slightly horrified gaze, the Dragrex…withered away.
