Chapter 539: Hawks

“I-Is it dead?”
“Yep, even if it’s still alive, I doubt it would be able to stand, let alone threaten us.”
Hearing Shye’s words, Siegfried walked closer to the dried-up Dragrex, poking it a few times with his katana.
Since there was no response from the creature, the two grew bolder, cautiously approaching and struggling to lift a few body parts and allowing it to fall back down to confirm that the Dragrex was truly dead.
“Phew…seems like we did it.”
“Yeah, you did great, Sieg.”
After a quick fist bump, the two started butchering the Dragrex’s corpse, harvesting the quest requirements and dividing the loot evenly.
Inevitably, though, they managed to dig out the Dragrex’s monstrous core.
“Hey, Sieg, can I have the core?” Shye asked bluntly.
There was no need to talk circles with his close friend as they both knew each other’s personality quite well.
“Sure, I barely helped, anyway, so you take the lion’s share of the loot.”
“Thanks!”
It was already enough for Siegfried that Shye agreed to take him on an (S-) ranked quest, giving him the chance to broaden his horizons and gauge the strength of (S-) ranked creatures.
For someone who enjoyed completing quests solo from time to time, this experience was invaluable.
Once the two of them were done harvesting the Dragrex’s corpse, they decided to immediately head back to the guild and report.
The return journey was quite peaceful.
There were no syndicate bastards who tried to assassinate or abduct him, which was a refreshing change of pace for Shye as it had now been quite the common occurrence for him to be ambushed before or after a quest.
He was even expecting a few enemies to wait for him outside the Magna Death Zone.
Luckily, there weren’t any this time, allowing him and Siegfried to chat peacefully while stopping from time to time to rest, eat great food, and admire the stars.
Of course, Shye observed Siegfried’s actions and analyzed the possible hidden motives behind each of his friend’s questions as they chatted.
However, it seemed Reginald’s warning was completely unfounded, as there was nothing unusual about Siegfried, his actions, or his words.
‘Better act carefully and observe him for a bit longer before concluding things…’ Shye thought to himself before closing his eyes to sleep, nestled snugly in his premium sleeping bag.
In the morning, the two continued their journey, arriving at Valenzia City exactly three and a half days after leaving the Magna Death Zone.
Since Shye was already well-known in Valenzia City, the guards didn’t even check for their identification documents and directly granted the two of them entry.
Shortly after, something occurred that completely stupefied Siegfried, leaving him feeling utterly at a loss.
“Shye Crowley!! Can I please get an autograph for my son? He’s a big fan of yours!”
“Sir Crowley, can I take a photo with you?”
“Accept this token of my gratitude for always protecting the region!”
“Sir Crowley, I’m excited to watch your next broadcast!”

Shye was quite used to it, though, impressing Siegfried as he masterfully rejected all of his fans’ requests without hurting their feelings and damaging his reputation.

‘Hahaha! Aren’t I great, Sieg?’ Shye inwardly thought, pleased that he got an admiration point from his friend.

Meanwhile, in an office adorned with hawk banners in another region, a slender middle-aged man with blonde hair and monocles knocked on the enormous door, intricately carved with the image of a hawk.
“Milord, I have arrived to report something of great importance.” The middle-aged man knelt and said respectfully.
However, there was no response from the room.
Nevertheless, the middle-aged man remained kneeling, patiently awaiting a response from the individual he addressed as “Milord.”
“You may come in.”
Finally granted an audience, the middle-aged man entered, disregarding the repulsive stench of rotting flesh assaulting his senses.
From the man’s seasoned actions, it was evident that he was a regular at the office.
“What’s this important matter you mentioned?”
“Reporting to Milord, I received a report last week from Fifteenth Hawkling that he has been promoted to the same guild branch where Specimen Fifteen, Shye Crowley of the Valenzia Region, is assigned. He will soon reunite with the target.”
“Good. Send Fifteenth a message that I, Dweezel Hawkins, will grant him one wish if he does his job properly and his target turns out to be the one I’m looking for.”
“Will do right away, Milord.”
“You may leave.”
After a brief yet meaningful reporting session, the blonde middle-aged man left the office.
Alone once more, Dweezel stood up from his seat and gazed out the window, staring into the horizon.
‘Heh, who would’ve thought Fifteenth would be this lucky? Aside from that youngster from the Fanfir Region and Yon Augenn’s Rookie Champion, this Shye Crowley from Valenzia was the next candidate with the highest chance of being my chosen one,’ Dweezel Hawkins mused.
‘No need to rush…I’ve already waited for more than four decades. Waiting for a few more years wouldn’t hurt…’

Standing outside Raven’s Blade’s main headquarters, a dashing young man with long blue hair tied up in a ponytail and a slim, toned body that suggested agility over strength, wore a mysterious smile.
“I’m sure Crowley’s already here, but what about the others? Am I second? Third? Fourth? Hahaha!” chuckled the young man before confidently entering the front door, drawing confused gazes from the Raven’s Blade guildsmen.
Walking straight towards the receptionists’ desk, the young man queued and patiently waited for his turn.
After about ten minutes, one of the receptionists, Becca, motioned for him to come closer.
“Hello, young sir. How may I help you?”
“Ahh, I’ve just been promoted to the main branch from the Bastbarrow branch.”
“I see, may I please see your recommendation letter?”
“Here.”
After reading the letter to verify its authenticity, Receptionist Becca’s expression relaxed, reassured by its legitimacy.
Shortly after, she raised her head and shifted her attention back to the young man.
“Sir Kiin Wujin, correct?”
