Chapter 540: The Crazy Woman And The Bastard
One month had passed since Shye and Siegfried completed their first (S-) ranked quest together.
Currently, they were on their way back to the guild to submit their quest requirements and complete their third (S-) ranked quest.
“Hey, Crowley.”
“Yeah?”
“I just noticed that (S-) ranked monsters aren’t that hard to beat anymore.”
“Hmm…I see…”
Upon hearing his close friend’s words, Shye instantly understood what Siegfried was implying.
After all, he too noticed that ever since Siegfried got used to the (S-) ranked creature’s speed, power, and cunning, the hunts had become rather…boring.
Well, at least for Siegfried, all he had to do was run around, wait for Shye to severely wound the creature, and then contribute whatever small amount of damage he could while waiting for Shye to deliver the finishing blow.
It was a reliable tactic.
However, it was honestly boring, and Siegfried didn’t feel that he was growing anymore.
Hence, he decided to speak up:
“At this rate, we’ll both stagnate, so…I don’t know…maybe I should go on solo quests for a while…”
Siegfried naturally felt embarrassed to say such words, especially since in his mind, Shye had been doing the lion’s share of the work in the past three quests.
However, it was exactly because of this reason that he decided to speak up.
His personality and pride simply wouldn’t let him exploit his friend to rapidly advance his career without feeling that he truly deserved it.
Shye knew Siegfried’s personality, and he already knew that his close friend would go solo sooner or later.
Hence, despite feeling a bit sad, he readily agreed to Siegfried’s proposal.
“Well, if that’s what you think would work best for you, then I will not stop you. However, will you be fine alone? Will you still take on (S-) ranked quests or will you go back to taking (A) ranked ones?”
“Thanks for understanding. I want to take on (S-) ranked quests, but in my current state, it might be too dangerous. Sigh…if only one more member from our Colzen team were here, (S-) ranked monsters would be perfect training targets…”
If any other person heard what the two young adventurers in their early 20s were talking about, they would probably struggle to believe their ears
Fortunately, it was only Shye—who actually agreed—who heard Siegfried’s sigh.
(S-) ranked monstrous creatures would be the ideal targets for Siegfried if he could find someone equally skilled to assist him in taking them down.
Surprisingly for Shye and Siegried, though, the heavens quickly made it clear who was its favorite between the two of them.
Upon arriving at the guild headquarters, the two headed towards the lobby to purchase a few refreshments before turning their quest in.
There, they were greeted by a familiar face —someone Siegfried had been thinking about on his journey back to the guild, as the guy was the perfect teammate to hunt down (S-) ranked creatures.
“Kiin!” Shye and Siegfried exclaimed in unison, staring at the blue-haired young man sitting at one of the lobby tables, eating a meal.
“Hey, Shye, Sieg. Sigh… looks like I’m the third to arrive, huh? When did you two get promoted to the main branch?”
“Sieg got here a month ago, and I’ve been here for a year.”
“What?! Promoted to the main branch in just one year? Damn… Well, I should’ve expected nothing less from you.”

“Hahaha, yeah, nothing less from me, the great Shye Crowley! Nyahaha!” Shye jokingly replied.
He was actually partly embarrassed by Kiin’s words of admiration.
However, should he act so, the situation would get awkward.
Hence, he simply decided to go all out in bragging!
“Hahahaha! I see you’re still as confident as ever. I thought that Valenzia City would at least humble you a bit!”
“Haha! Who in this world could possibly stop me, the unstoppable super rookie?” Shye exclaimed, amusing Kiin as he sensed the displeased snorts of a few guild members.
They were accustomed to Shye’s jokes and understood that deep down, he wasn’t arrogant.
Therefore, Kiin and Siegfried felt no negativity upon hearing Shye’s words, unlike some of their guildmates who were likely inwardly fuming over a few self-praising remarks.
Interestingly, however, none of them dared to retort to Shye, apparently fearful of provoking an actual confrontation with him.
‘Heh, these wusses.’ Kiin inwardly remarked, shifting his attention back to the duo.
“I’ve been waiting for you two to return for about a week now! Where have you been?”
This time, it was Siegfried who boasted:
“Hahaha, we just got back from an (S-) ranked quest!”
“W-What?! When did you two start taking on (S-) ranked quests?!”
“Of course, I, the great Shye Crowley, have been taking on (S-) ranked quests for a few months now!”
“What?! Crowley! You lied to me! Didn’t you claim you were new to (S-) ranked creatures?! Tch… I should’ve noticed from your movements during our first hunt!”
“A-Ahh…that’s…”
Listening to the friendly banter among the three youngsters, Shye’s haters were irritated, while those aspiring to befriend him felt envious, prompting them to investigate the two young adventurers who were so friendly with him.
As a result, Siegfried and Kiin unknowingly received a substantial fame boost.
“Wait for us here, Kiin. After we turn our quest in, I’ll show you around the division lounge.”
During the past week of idleness, Kiin had already gathered information and learned that Shye had established a division.
Naturally, he preferred to join his close friend’s division rather than one where he didn’t know anyone, as he wasn’t great at socializing and loathed the idea of making new friends.
Unfortunately for him, it seemed that he had no choice but to do so as a loud female voice suddenly sounded from the main branch’s entrance.
“THERE YOU ARE YOU BASTARD!! I FINALLY FOUND YOU!!”
Siegfried didn’t know why, but after hearing the familiar yet unfamiliar voice of the young woman who caused a scene upon entering, chills ran down his spine.
Turning around to see who the newcomer was, Siegfried’s eyes widened in utter shock, disbelief, and…fear.
“Y-You!! Didn’t I already tell you that what happened two years ago wasn’t my intention?! I even risked my reputation and asked around to confirm that I have no obligations to stay by your side! Y-You, you crazy woman!”
