Chapter 563: A Reliable Pillar In Times Of Despair
‘F*ck! Even I could barely see anything in this darkness!’ Shye inwardly cursed, worried about his party members.
His initial vision of more than fifty meters had been reduced to a mere five.
If even he couldn’t see, then his other party members should be as blind as a bat.
“Shit! I can’t use any elemental spells!”
“Me too! I can’t even use heal!”
The mage and the priestess, Walter and Mira, panicked.
They were protected by Dalton. However, knowing that they couldn’t even cast spells, their blood ran cold.
They could feel death’s whispers, beckoning them to come closer.
Who would have imagined that a mere (S-) ranked creature would be their downfall?
They had hunted many creatures of similar ranks and had even taken down (S) ranked ones alongside their guildmates.
Hence, most of them, especially Dalton, couldn’t believe that they were in such a tight spot against the (S-) ranked Brallnr.
This brief period of reflection on what went wrong helped them grow as adventurers.
They recognized that some species are significantly stronger than others, even if they share the same rank or are ranked lower.
This underscored the importance of studying various high-rank species and noting their strengths, weaknesses, combat styles, and other traits, as this knowledge could save not only their own lives but also the lives of their party members.
Unfortunately, they learned this lesson a bit too late and now found themselves in a perilous situation where none of them knew if they would survive.
Despite believing their preparation had been thorough, the current circumstances proved otherwise.
“Don’t panic! Release the signal flares! Group together!”
Luckily for them, Shye, with his [Unfazed Heart] trait and high wisdom attribute had long lost the ability to panic in crucial situations, finding it more efficient to put his mind to work and shout orders.
Naturally, a calm and collected leader would result in calmer and more collected party members.
Hence, after hearing Shye’s orders that sounded as though everything was still under control, hope returned in the hearts of the extermination party members.
With a clearer mind, they remembered that this was merely a final struggle for the severely wounded Brallnr.
If they could get through this, victory was theirs.
The first step, of course, was to follow their party leader’s orders.
Retrieving signal flares from their spatial bags, small golden lights scattered in all directions, resembling five fireflies rebelling against the oppressive darkness.
This let everyone know where Dalton, Walter, and Mira were, as their flares ascended close together.
“Everyone, gather around Dalton and the others!” Shye exclaimed, rushing towards the location of the three golden flares himself.
Shortly after, he arrived beside the currently useless Walter and Mira, allowing them to relax further, feeling protected with two warriors in front.
It wasn’t long before Rai Hou arrived as well.
Only, there were no signs of the Kreborian champion, Freeze.
It didn’t take long for them to locate him, however, as a furious shout echoed from somewhere to their right.

“GET THE HELL AWAY FROM ME! WHY DID THIS THING TARGET ME OF ALL PEOPLE?!” Freeze cursed, utterly enraged at his bad luck as he faced the berserk Brallnr Cyclops.
Fortunately, as one of the party’s scouts, he was equipped with night vision goggles, giving him at least a fighting chance.
…The floor guardian wasted no time, immediately attempting to grab the isolated scout in hopes of devouring him.
However, Freeze, incompetent as he may be in the eyes of the other champions, was a talented champion himself.
He would never be caught by such a simple attack.
Dodging beneath the enormous hands, Freeze cleverly stayed close to the Brallnr’s unusually thin feet, aiming to exploit its relatively low agility.
Unfortunately, he miscalculated the floor guardian’s experience.
In response to his clever tactic, the one-eyed monster simply flapped its wings slightly, using its feet to grab him and lift him about five meters into the air.
It then grinned ominously at its captured prey, gathering energy in its mouth to blast Freeze into the afterlife.
“NO!!” The Kreborian champion screamed in despair.
Luckily, it seemed that today wasn’t the day he would meet his maker as another demonic figure flew half a meter above him, swiftly slashing the Brallnr’s thin bat-like feet clean off.
Freeze was showered with viscous black blood as he fell on the ground with a thud, the berserk monster roaring in agony just above him.
“Dark Pull!”
Soon after, he felt supernatural forces pulling him towards the location where the others were.
He was initially scared.
However, upon realizing that he was probably being pulled by Walter, he calmed down.
Finally, he was safe.
“F-Freeze! Are you alright? Only [Dark]-type spells are allowed inside this dark domain so I can’t heal you…” Mira asked and explained.
“I-I’m fine…I was somehow saved by another monstrous creature…”
“Monstrous creature? What do you mean? Wasn’t it Crowley who charged in to save you?” Dalton asked, confused.
“C-Crowley? That monstrosity was Crowley?!”
Hearing that the demonic being he just saw was their party leader, Freeze felt his blood run cold as a thought lingered in his mind for a few moments:
‘I dared challenge that guy?’
“What are you yelling for, you idiot? If you’re alright, then get up and help Crowley!” Walter said, irritated with Freeze, who time and again was the source of trouble.
Since the Kreborian champion no longer harbored any hatred for Shye, his anger was now directed at Walter, the mage, who was clearly an arrogant jerk.
‘I’ll overlook your arrogance this time, but after we clear this damn dungeon, I’m going to teach you a lesson about messing with scouts when you’re a mage…’ Freeze inwardly vowed, forgetting that it was Walter’s [Dark Pull] that got him out of harm’s way.
…The other champions swiftly moved in to help despite not seeing anything.
However, before anyone could jump in to assist, the rushing Freeze suddenly stopped right in front of everyone, shaking as he appeared utterly shocked and horrified.
“YOU MORON, WHY DID YOU STOP ALL OF A SUDDEN?! DOESN’T YOUR BRAIN REALIZE THAT CROWLEY COULD DIE WITH EVERY SECOND YOU WASTE?!” Dalton raged, fed up with the Kreborian champion’s incompetence and idiocy.
Only, they didn’t expect him to talk back this time.
“SHUT THE F*CK UP YOU OAF! T-THERE’S NO NEED TO HELP! C-C-CROWLEY HAD ALREADY…”
