Chapter 568: A Pleasant Call
Two and a half weeks passed since Shye single-handedly slaughtered the second floor’s guardian, and since then, Dalton didn’t dare covet the Impious Origin Belt.
After all, he wouldn’t dare claim that he was as tough as the Voidos Devourer.
Moreover, they were teammates now, but if he angered Shye too much, it could be him on the receiving end of whatever skill it was that killed the second-floor guardian instantly.
As a result, Shye’s authority as the party leader became rock solid after his intimidating display.
This led the party to nearly speedrun through the third and fourth floors, putting them significantly ahead of schedule.
*RING~!* *RING~!*
“Wait, someone’s calling me,” Shye said, walking away from the party to answer the call from his Mana Communicator.
Unfortunately, since this was the first model, one wouldn’t know who was calling until one heard the voice of the other party.
However, since Shye had only shared the unique numeric combination of his mana communicator with fewer than ten trusted individuals, he was certain this wasn’t a prank call.
‘Oh, wait…Mana Communicators work inside mana dungeons?’ He mused as he tapped the button and answered the call.
“Hello?”
“Shye!”
Hearing the familiar and sweet voice from the other side of the mana communicator, Shye couldn’t help but smile.
He didn’t like more than half of the people in his party.
Hence, hearing his beloved’s voice was truly refreshing.
“Oh? Shirley! How have you been? Sorry I haven’t called in three weeks. I’m currently inside a mana dungeon, completing a mandatory quest from the WAA…”
“Oh…I see, this isn’t a good time to call you then…”
“No, we can talk. Do you have something important to say?”
“…”
Shirley didn’t answer for a while, making Shye feel slightly anxious.
“Hey, Shirley?”
“Oh! No, I don’t have anything important to say. It can wait until you finish your mandatory quest!”
“Are you sure? You’re not hiding anything, are you?”
“Really! Don’t worry about me. Well then, talk to you later!”
*BLEEP~!*
In the past, Shirley had always been stoic, choosing not to inform Shye of her problems and handling them on her own.
However, ever since their heart-to-heart talk, she had consistently communicated her issues to Shye through the mana communicator, and Shye was very pleased that she was doing so.
Moreover, there were no traces of worry in her voice, only excitement. Therefore, Shye decided to trust her.
‘Oh well, if she says there’s no problem, there shouldn’t be,’ he thought to himself, returning to his party members. ‘I’ll just reprimand her if she starts hiding her problems from me again!’
“I apologize for the interruption. Let’s continue. We need to meet Sir Fyun and the other handlers in a week, so let’s hurry and clear the fifth floor.”

And so, the WAA extermination party continued on their way to clear the fifth floor.
Since Freeze acquired the Safety Whisper, he never failed to detect any traps, making their journey incredibly smooth.
Moreover, not a single monstrous creature had escaped detection from Shye’s [Mana Pulse].
This allowed them the advantage of always making the first strike.
If not for the darkness that enveloped the entire fifth floor—just like it did on the first and third floors—they would have been able to clear each pathway and find their way to the guardian’s room and the descending staircase much faster.
From their observations, the odd-numbered floors were always pitch-black, while the even-numbered floors were brightly lit, purple, and populated mostly by [Void]-type creatures.
…For five hours, the extermination party explored the dark fifth floor, but unfortunately, luck wasn’t on their side this time, as they had already encountered more than three dead-ends.
To make matters worse…
“Everyone, I’ve run out of mana and mana potions…” Freeze said, slightly embarrassed.
His mana pool wasn’t as extensive as Walter’s or Mira’s.
Additionally, the dungeon drained one mana every thirty seconds, on top of the mana used by the Safety Whisper.
It was inevitable that he would run out of mana.
“Tch, don’t look at me. I’m nearly out of mana potions too, and I need the remaining ones for the guardian battle.” Walter said, looking at Freeze as though he was a beggar.
‘You bastard, I’ll hunt you down after this…’
Left with no choice, the Kreborian scout champion shifted his gaze toward Mira.
“U-Uhm… Mister Winfield. I-it’s not much, but I hope these two bottles of mid-grade mana potions can help. I also need to keep a few bottles for the guardian battle. I hope you understand.” The priestess said.
In reality, she couldn’t afford to give any mana potions to Freeze either. However, being someone who always found it hard to say no, she couldn’t help but give him two.
“T-Thank you for the mana potion bottles, Miss Mira.”
‘Tch, what can I even do with two?! Oh well, better than nothing, I guess…’
Gulping both bottles down, Freeze could feel that his mana pool was filled.
However, he wasn’t happy at all, as this was his last refill. Freeze could only hope that they would find the guardian’s room soon.
After all, if his mana ran out before they could find and fight the fifth floor’s boss, then he would be in deep trouble.
What use is a scout who can’t even use [Stealth]?
Fortunately, it seemed the gods had not abandoned him today, as he received unexpected generosity from the most unlikely person.
“Tch, didn’t Sir Fyun tell you to prepare lots of mana potions?” Shye said, handing Freeze five bottles of high-grade mana potions.
“Oh…T-Thanks, Crowley…” Freeze said awkwardly. He felt a bit embarrassed to receive Shye’s mana potions, especially since he had talked the most crap about Shye at the beginning.
“Just keep doing your job properly. If the main force gets caught by a trap, I’ll hold you responsible.”
Luckily, their bad luck on the fifth floor finally ended when they spotted a golden glow at the end of the dark pathway they were on.
“Everyone, prepare for combat!”
