Chapter 569: From Behind
The WAA extermination party entered the guardian room with a resolute expression.
However, when Walter’s golden orb exploded and lit up the entire room, the hearts of the more faint-hearted members, such as Freeze, Walter, and Mira, began to falter.
In front of them was a monster that had slain many of their guildmates, including a few of the seniors they respected.
It was only an (S-) ranked creature, yet, it struck fear in the hearts of even the highest-ranked of adventurers.
“A-Abyssal Drake!” Freeze exclaimed, evidently shaken.
The sole reason why the Abyssal Drake was only classified as an (S-) ranked creature was because the average attributes of their species were short of a few points to make it to the ranks of (S) class monsters.
This was mainly due to its underwhelmingly low wisdom and agility attributes, though, in reality, they were just as fast as most (S-) and (S) ranked creatures if not faster because of their abyssal wings.
However, it was well-known that the Abyssal Drakes’ extreme aggression and immense damage output could instantly kill even the highest-ranked adventurers if they made a single mistake.
This was why they were so feared.
Now, they were facing such a creature themselves. Their true mettle would surely be tested in this battle.
Luckily for them, there wasn’t a hint of panic on their leader’s face.
Shye was as calm and collected as ever.
Naturally, his demeanor influenced his faint-hearted teammates, serving as their psychological pillar.
“Everyone, calm down. We’ll take down this drake just as easily as we did the other bosses, as long as we fight like we usually do.” Shye said, taking the lead in attacking the drake by dashing straight at it.
*ROAR!
A powerful draconian roar echoed through the guardian room as the Abyssal Drake raged at Shye, not appreciating the audacious head-on attack.
Black flames filled its mouth as it gathered the energy of the flame and darkness elements.
In the next moment, the Abyssal Drake breathed the black flames toward Shye, eager to see the arrogant human charred black.
Unfortunately for the Abyssal Drake, although Shye did turn black after being engulfed by the guardian’s dark flames, it was because of the Impious Origin Belt’s [Barrier Of The Condemned], which completely shielded him from the fierce attack.
Consequently, Shye was now in the prime position to attack.
‘Nightfall Reaper!’
Without hesitation, Shye activated one of his [Epic]-tier trump cards, viciously slashing his greatswords at the Abyssal Drake’s neck.
Monstrous creatures possess naturally sharp instincts for detecting danger.
Hence, the floor guardian immediately realized that Shye’s attack was bad news.
Discarding its pride, the Abyssal Drake summoned a black barrier, completely covering its head up to the upper part of its body.
Black sparks erupted from the shield, drawing random murals in the air as the [Nightfall Reaper]-empowered greatswords clashed with the black barrier.
Unfortunately for the fifth floor’s guardian, the black barrier was nowhere near enough to defend against Shye’s trump card, shattering immediately the next second.
However, it was at least able to weaken the power of Shye’s attack down to seventy percent.
*ROAR!*
The Abyssal Drake roared once more as it braced for the attack.

It didn’t expect the puny human’s strike to instantly shatter the barrier it had conjured, leaving it no time to escape.
It had no choice but to take the blow.
*CLANG!* *SPURT!*
Black, viscous blood spurted from the wound as both of Shye’s greatswords shattered the thick draconic scales blocking their path, embedding themselves deep into the Abyssal Drake’s long neck.
‘Tch, as I suspected, it managed to survive my attack…’ Shye thought to himself as he quickly pulled his greatswords out and retreated to safety.
Meanwhile, the heavily wounded drake staggered, struggling to find its footing after being on the receiving end of such a vicious blow.
To make matters worse for it, the extermination party is already in position.
“Great work, Crowley!” Rai Hou sincerely praised, utterly impressed at Shye’s decisiveness and self-confidence.
[Congratulations! You’ve earned 5 points!].
He was initially surprised when Shye attacked alone.
He believed that Shye only took the lead because he wanted to increase the party’s morale.
However, who would have expected that not only did he devise a great plan requiring both courage and skill to pull off, but he also managed to inflict severe wounds on such a fierce creature right from the start?
This brilliant move of using his trump card right away would make things much easier for them.
Even the Abyssal Drake knew that it was in lethal trouble.
As a result, it immediately activated its [Draconian Rage] skill, with its scales and eyes turning pitch black. It appeared as though it had become the embodiment of darkness itself.
Sadly for the drake, Shye had predicted what it would do next.
“Everyone! Focus on defense! For now, there’s no need to try and damage the monster. Concentrate on using your spells to stay alive.”
The next moment, the Abyssal Drake went berserk.
It thrashed about, its tail sweeping everywhere as it dove, clawed, and unleashed devastating blasts from its terrifying maw.
However, no matter what the drake did, it wasn’t able to deal a significant amount of damage, only bruises and minor injuries.
To make things worse, its rage skill was starting to time out.
However, just as the Abyssal Drake was about to fall victim to the extermination party’s defensive tactics, a purple crack suddenly appeared five meters behind them, and since everyone was focused on surviving the floor guardian’s attacks, not a single one noticed.
Until it selected a target, that is.
Shye and his party were truly incredibly lucky that somehow, the humanoid monstrous creature that captured Koneko chose Rai Hou as its target of all people.
Thanks to his talent, the Yon Augenn champion was able to instantly sense the danger and quickly turn his head to see who was attacking him from behind.
“Ambush from behind!” Rai Hou exclaimed as he hurriedly got out of the way, narrowly avoiding the roaming boss’ claw attack by sidestepping to the left.
It then attempted to capture him within its one-on-one domain. However, the Yon Augenn champion was far too perceptive, anticipating the move.
As a result, Rai Hou was able to use one of his repositioning skills to escape the domain’s range.
“Hihi… Clever human…”
