Chapter 580: A New Combat Idea
“Mister Crowley, could you please give me Miss Koneko’s head?” Mira said, desperation and slight despair in the tones of her voice.
It was as though she was close to becoming one with darkness herself despite being of the holy attribute.
Unfortunately, it was impossible for Shye to cater to her heartbroken wishes, as it was his quest to obtain the false core.
She looked pitiful. There were no traces of her once cute and innocent countenance, her hands shaking, traumatized.
“As much as I would love to, Mira, I cannot give you the azure core, as it would be detrimental to the mission. I will be keeping it for now.”
“Hiih!”
Hearing Shye’s words, the holy priestess let out some sort of strange half-squeal, the desperation on her face becoming more and more evident.
It was weird.
“M-Mister Crowley…Please…I’m begging you…hand her over…to me!” Mira begged, almost shouting right at the end of her words as she tried to forcefully grab Koneko’s head with the most desperate expression Shye had ever seen.
Even Rai Hou, Dalton, Walter, and Freeze, found her actions strange.
They had only been with Koneko for a short time. Furthermore, she was an assh*le to deal with. Hence, despite their initial trauma, they view Koneko’s head as merely a false dungeon core.
None of them, except for Mira, cared about her current situation.
The others were as happy as clams, knowing they only had one more floor to clear before escaping this hellhole.
“Mira, calm down. Why are you acting so aggressively?” Rai Hou asked with a frown. “We know you’re close with Koneko, but please understand that our mission comes first. Once this is all over, you can talk it out with Crowley, alright?”
For a while, Mira couldn’t talk. She was clenching her fists tightly.
“I…understand…” She finally replied, dejected and depressed. She was nowhere near her kind and understanding self. At that moment, Mira didn’t look sane.
Realizing that the young priestess was finally under control, Shye took a deep breath, looking at the dissolving corpse of the floor guardian shortly after.
Out of the nine guardians they defeated, only three dropped a total of seven items.
One of these, the Impious Origin Belt, went to Shye, while the remaining six were distributed among his party members.
There were a few reasons why he didn’t fight for the ownership of the other items.
First, the items didn’t offer him much benefit.
Second, their quality was rather subpar, making it not worth the effort to fight over them.
Lastly, he planned to brute force his way to obtain the Impious Origin Belt after the mission, arguing that he had given them all the other items. Hence, the belt should rightfully go to him.
A not-so-logical argument. However, it doesn’t matter as probably none of his party members would dare duel him for it.
As the Daemon’s body vanished, however, another azure orb appeared, materializing into a black shield.
One that looked way heavier and tougher than the peak Mithril-ranked shield Dalton obtained on the third floor.
The item naturally made Dalton’s eyes gleam with greed, glued to the black shield as though under hypnosis.
‘Appraisal!’

‘An Adamantite-ranked heavy shield!’ Shye exclaimed, greed consuming his heart.
He wanted to obtain it for himself.
“HAHAHAHA! Another shield! let me try it on!”
Dalton’s eager voice echoed across the guardian room as his left hand immediately grabbed the shield and tried it.
Naturally, the brutish ape’s actions brought a frown to Shye’s face.
“OH CRAP!” Dalton cursed, an ear-splitting metallic noise reverberating inside the room as the lower part of the shield slammed heavily onto the concrete surface.
The brutish ape failed to lift the shield with his left arm. It was too heavy for him.
“How the f*ck is this shield so heavy?!”
At the prime age of 29, Dalton already became an adamantite-ranked adventurer—proof of his overwhelming talent.
Although his ranking was somewhere around the bottom of his region’s adamantite rankings, his physical attributes could already be said to be on par with a few veteran adamantites.
Yet, despite this, it seemed that his strength attribute still wasn’t enough to lift the shield, leaving him pulling his hair out in frustration.
If even he, an adamantite-ranked shielder-type warrior couldn’t lift the shield, then who could?
Dalton tried a few more times but to no avail.
His full strength only allowed him to lift the shield around twenty centimeters off the ground for three seconds.
“Curses!”
*BOOM!*
Dalton angrily unequipped the heavy black shield, sending it crashing to the ground with enough force to slightly crack the concrete beneath it as clouds of dust filled the air.
Despite being a seasoned adamantite-ranked adventurer, he couldn’t believe that he still couldn’t use the shield.
However, after a few moments, he realized that as long as he possessed the shield, he could always train harder and eventually wield it once his attributes allowed.
Unfortunately for him, letting go of the Dark Shelter was a huge mistake, as Shye grabbed it the next moment and tried it on.
“Hey, Crowley! What are you doing?!” Dalton asked warily in a loud voice. “You’re a dual greatsword wielder, are you not?! Don’t you target my shields!”
After all, the last time Shye behaved this way, he had forcefully claimed the Impious Origin Belt.
Moments later, Shye effortlessly lifted the shield off the ground, though it was clear that even though he could wield it properly, he could still feel its weight.
“Great shield!” Shye exclaimed, turning his head to look at Rai Hou and then Dalton.
Naturally, Shye’s actions confused even Rai Hou and the ten old men watching.
“Since Dalton can’t equip this excellent gear that would undoubtedly make our dungeon run easier, I’ll use it for now. It would be a shame to let such a fine shield sit unused in someone’s inventory.”
