Chapter 581: Shye The Shielder
Multiple footsteps—eerily distorted, echoed across the fully concrete, magenta hallways of Horza Blaidde Mana Dungeon.
The WAA extermination had recently descended to the tenth and final floor after a heated argument where Shye defended his decision against all five of his members, including the logical Rai Hou, and Mira, who seemed to be filled with resentment towards Shye.
Not a single trace of her gracious kindness remained, only barely hidden hatred. She had never looked more unholy.
Nevertheless, Shye silenced any objections by declaring he would prove the shield wouldn’t be wasted on him.
Of course, having worked miracles for them time and again, none of the five dared to dismiss his words as mere boasting.
They at least gave him a chance.
It didn’t take long before they encountered monstrous creatures.
Just moments later, three towering monsters, each standing two and a half meters tall, emerged from the void and ambushed Shye and the others, catching them off guard.
“We’re being attacked!” Rai Hou exclaimed, prompting Shye and Dalton to immediately move forward and protect their backline.
Meanwhile, Freeze faded into the background using [Stealth].
“My detection skill missed these damned monsters?” Shye muttered in frustration as he pulled out the black shield from his inventory, quickly positioning it to block the incoming attack.
Shockingly, despite their varying builds, the monsters were holding weapons.
The creature attacking Dalton wielded a red greatsword, while the two assailing Shye were armed differently—one with dual battle axes and the other with an extremely long, crude black spear.
As the weapons approached, Shye and Dalton braced for impact.
However, it was evident that one of them had a more strained expression than the other, visibly a beginner.
*CLANG!*
The next moment, the monstrous creatures’ weapons finally clashed with the warriors’ shields, producing an ear-splitting metallic noise echoed across the purple, concrete hallways of the Horza Blaidde Mana dungeon.
Eerily, the sounds slowly got distorted as they moved farther away from them, gradually turning into high-pitched screams that sent shivers down one’s spine.
Dalton looked forward to Shye’s pathetic performance as a shielder so that he could mock him and retrieve the adamantite-ranked legendary black shield.
Unfortunately, no such thing happened as upon turning his head slightly to glance at Shye, Dalton simply found the guy confused.
Shye then smirked and said,
“What? That’s all? I was expecting them to, you know, push me back more. I barely felt their hits!”
His words were a deliberate jab at Dalton, subtly showing off his strength as a shielder while mocking the creatures’ feeble attacks.
Shye’s goal? To naturally secure the black shield for himself!
After all, with the system’s help, he could freely switch equipment in the blink of an eye.
A legendary shield would only make him more legendary.
‘Why didn’t I think of this before?!’
Due to this sudden epiphany, Shye finally escaped the shackles of “classes”, planning to develop a battle style that was as free as a bird.
Adrenaline rushed through every part of his body as excitement consumed him, causing him to become a little too overzealous about this battle, temporarily forgetting about the fact that the void-type monstrous creatures managed to bypass his mana pulses.
“Hahahaha! Fighting against monstrous creatures with a shield is this easy?”

Shye did a quick appraisal to check the monstrous creatures’ attributes. They turned out to be (S-) ranked all-rounders of the Voidos race called Voidos Sentinels.
Each of them had exactly four hundred points in every attribute, except for intelligence, which was only two hundred, and wisdom, which was just one hundred.
Unfortunately for the monstrous creatures, Shye was a nightmare for any all-rounder. Not only were his base attributes astonishingly high for his age, but his strength—enhanced by his greatsword—was on par with, if not greater than, the monsters themselves.
When fighting against him, it would be better for one to specialize in a single attribute to stand a chance.
Hence, even against two (S-) ranked Voidos Sentinels, the battle was easy for Shye.
He simply blocked all of their attacks using his shield with ease while counter-attacking with his greatswords—his footwork unusually agile for a shielder.
His entire kit reeked of heaviness, yet, he was as swift as a swallow, catching the Voidos Sentinels off guard.
As a result, one of them misjudged Shye’s ability to turn around quickly, suffering a grievous diagonal wound from its left shoulder down to the narrower part of its abdomen.
If Shye had fully mastered the weight of the black shield, the monster would have been killed instantly.
The backliners didn’t stand idly.
Shortly after the monster stepped back with an expression of agony, a flaming arrow that drew a thin vermilion ray across the air roared alongside its embers, embedding itself deep into the grievously wounded Voidos Sentinel’s neck and turning the insides of its neck and head into a charred mush.
This naturally resulted in the monster losing its life, making things easier for Shye.
Meanwhile, Dalton, with the help of Walter and Mira, fought the greatsword-wielding Voidos Sentinel, effortlessly blocking its attacks while chipping away at its health with a barrage of spells and mace strikes.
They seemed to be winning decisively as well.
Realizing that things weren’t going well, the remaining Voidos Sentinel, the one using dual battle axes, suddenly retreated into the void, disappearing from everyone’s sight.
“It retreated?” Shye muttered with narrowed eyes.
Aside from the Voidos Nightstalker, none of the dungeon monsters retreated.
Hence, Shye, despite his newfound combat style, couldn’t help but feel wary, as the monstrous creatures on the tenth floor didn’t seem to be mere mindless monsters whose objective was to prevent them from moving forward.
‘Tch.’ Shye inwardly clicked his tongue, the unpleasant memory of him being cornered at a certain food storage room popping up in his mind.
However, he didn’t dwell on it for long.
It was in the past, and he was much stronger now than he had been then.
He was confident he could handle such situations far better now.
“Let’s proceed.”
