Chapter 588: A Human’s Valiant Counter Offensive
“Ha…Hahaha! Human!! You!! Puny human!! You’re just a human…when you’re nothing but a mere human!!”
Veidrax’s ancient voice reverberated across the battle dimension followed by a mighty aura as horrifying as a stormy sea, enveloping everyone in the room.
As Shye spouted confident words from his mouth, the Void Dragon stared right into his eyes, peering into the depths of his heart.
Was the human merely trying to anger it? No! The human sincerely thought he could win.
This was the reason why Veidrax was so infuriated to the high heavens.
A young puny human thinks he could defeat a dragon alone? Audacious!
“Alright, it looks like I’ve played around with you long enough for some foolish ideas to take root in your mind. Do you really believe that just surviving for more than half an hour gives you even the slightest chance against me, Veidrax the Void Dragon? Very well, then! Let me show you the true extent of my power!”
*ROAR!*
An ancient roar as old as time resounded once more, assaulting the minds and the hearts of the four remaining youngsters.
Shye thought, pressing his right hand against his chest. His heart raced uncontrollably. His human body trembled in fear.
‘Guess I still have a lot to improve on…’
Gripping his shield and elemental staff tighter, Shye waited for Veidrax’s attack, planning to deal with it before counter-attacking.
It didn’t take long for the furious dragon to make its move.
After a fearsome roar, it flew high, its form majestic. At that moment, Shye understood why dragons were sovereigns, monarchs amongst monsters.
He didn’t have a chance to appreciate its beauty, though, as the next moment, a massive magic circle appeared, accompanied by four smaller ones positioned to the north, east, west, and south.
A powerful gravitational force suddenly emanated from the four smaller magic circles, dragging Shye toward the massive central circle.
Within it, a giant void sphere materialized, poised to tear him apart.
“Die, human!” Veidrax roared, anticipation in its eyes. It wanted to see Shye’s mangled corpse.
Shye had no plans of perishing soon, however, so he tried to resist the gravitational pull by flapping his wings.
Unfortunately, the skill’s range was so vast that, despite his best efforts, he was gradually drawn toward the center.
He tried blinking, dashing, and even spatial tunneling, but nothing worked.
“Hahahaha! It’s inevitable, human!” Veidrax laughed, a sadistic smile on its draconic face. “Face your doom!”
‘Tch, a bit earlier than I planned but…I have no choice, do I?’
Welcoming the gravitational pull with open arms, Shye changed into dual greatswords once more, gripping their handles tightly in preparation for his attack.
He couldn’t just waste one of his strongest defensive skills by using it without counter-attacking shortly after, could he?
‘Barrier of the Condemned!’ He inwardly exclaimed, prompting the Impious Origin Belt’s skill to activate.
The next moment, a blackish transparent barrier materialized around him, a ghostly aura filling the air and dropping the temperature around him significantly.
The barrier appeared fragile.
Hence, the prideful Veidrax merely sneered in disdain upon seeing Shye’s futile struggle to survive, a human’s pathetic attempt to cling to life.
‘Not yet close enough…’ Shye inwardly thought, gauging the distance between him and the magic circle with a void sphere in the center.

Time seemed to crawl for the remaining members of the extermination party as they watched their dependable leader, Shye, being drawn ever closer to the deadly void orb.
They knew his barrier would protect him from a single attack without taking damage, but none of them knew what would happen if Shye remained inside the void sphere for too long.
That uncertainty filled them with dread.
Shye was their final hope—the only one among them who never lost his resolve and had the audacity to insult a dragon, boldly declaring that he stood a fair chance of defeating it one-on-one.
Though none of them truly believed he could fulfill his promise, they all feared his death, knowing it would spell their own doom.
Only about fifteen minutes remained until reinforcements would arrive.
If Shye could endure and hold on a little longer, there was still a chance they might survive to see another day.
“How about lending a hand instead of just standing there?” Shye shouted, prompting a triumphant laugh from Veidrax, who took it as a sign that Shye was growing desperate, despite his outward composure.
His words, however, snapped his comrades out of their stupor.
Unfortunately, the three of them didn’t have his [Unfazed Heart] trait, nor his high wisdom attribute.
As a result, though they all wanted to help, only Rai Hou managed to muster the courage.
He drew his bow, steeling himself to assist Shye.
Meanwhile, Shye carefully measured the distance, his focus as straight and sharp as a laser.
‘Now!’
Reaching the optimal range, he gave his wings one final flap before they timed out, allowing him to glide on the wind currents pulling him closer to the deadly void orb at unbelievable speeds.
His actions initially confused Veidrax, who burst out laughing the next moment upon understanding what he was trying to do.
“Hahahaha! Has despair corroded your brain, mentally challenged human? Do you want me to explain why your plan won’t wo–”
The prideful Void Dragon’s words were cut short as it witnessed the arrogant young human crash against his void sphere.
However, what made Veidrax abruptly stop speaking was the sight of Shye, dual greatswords in hand, emerging unharmed behind the massive magic circle in the next second.
Somehow, he had survived the void sphere that was supposed to shred him to pieces.
“Impossible!” The Void Dragon exclaimed in utter disbelief, its attention quickly drawn to the scarlet edges of Shye’s weapon.
The greatswords were silent as midnight, radiating no aura. Yet, despite their seemingly harmless appearance, they sent a chill down the dragon’s spine.
‘I’m…threatened? By this kid?’
Veidrax didn’t have much time to contemplate, however, as Shye approached, fierce as a horizontal meteor.
‘For now, I must raise my barrier!’ It thought, prioritizing safety and acknowledging Shye’s attack as a threat.
The next moment, an enormous purple barrier made of countless mana octagons with traces of the void element appeared in front of Veidrax, protecting him from Shye’s attack.
It believed that the insignificant human’s attack wouldn’t be able to kill it, as the barrier would diminish the attack’s power and its naturally tough draconian body would do the rest.
Unfortunately for Veidrax, a green ray of light suddenly whooshed past Shye, who was already flying at unimaginable speeds.
The projectile was accompanied by a howling gale, spinning endlessly as if it sought to pierce through both space and the void.
“Zephyr Penetration!”
Rai Hou’s voice sounded from behind Shye, bringing a smile to his face.
A few milliseconds later, the green wind-elemental arrow struck the barrier, shattering it before dispersing into green mana particles that scattered throughout the entire battle dimension.
“Nicely done, Rai Hou!”
‘Boost! Boost! Boost!’
Confronted with Shye’s [Nightfall Reaper], empowered by three boost charges and with no protective measures active except for its tough body, Veidrax gritted its teeth.
‘Endure!’ it thought as Shye’s greatswords made contact with its extremely tough purple scales.
*CLANG!*
A metallic noise echoed across the battle dimension.
However, the noise didn’t last long as the next moment, it was replaced by the sound of a sharp blade cutting through flesh and blood.
“Im…possible…”
