Chapter 598: Delivery
Still incomplete was the Colzen Seven, thus prompting Shye to delay his plans a bit more.
Though he wasn’t yet prepared to confront the mightiest adventurers, he was confident in his ability to either hold his ground or escape if necessary.
This made him anxious about gathering a dependable, strong team, as he sought to gain every small advantage he could for their faction, for a green dawn, steadily building up over time until the final battle against the evil hero.
He had no idea when he would receive an order to clash with Dweezel’s forces and time was of the essence.
Therefore, while awaiting Harry and David’s arrival, Shye instructed the Colzen members, along with Luna, Lesurii, and Seira once she returned, to split into two parties and farm guild contribution points under the pretense of “aiming to become a five-star division,” as he couldn’t yet reveal the truth about his real mission.
At least not to Siegfried, Ian, and Kiin.
Shirley, Siegfried, Lesurii, and Wendy formed the first party while the second comprised Kiin, Luna, Seira, and Ian.
All of them were of diamond and high-emerald rank. Moreover, they were far from “normal,” as they were elites among their peers, capable of challenging those a rank higher.
They were talented individuals getting closer to the peak after years of training and combat, with some starting from a young age.
While some had received Shye’s help and others had not, the differences in their strengths were minimal, and they were certainly toe-to-toe—at least for now.
Shye did not join them for he had other things to accomplish, ones that would cause small ripples in the world and shape the final battle.
Two weeks from now, he shall be appointed as Valenzia’s first hero, receiving a crest on his body, a title, and a substantial increase in strength.
A tragic irony as he would be portrayed as one of humanity’s biggest enemies and shall go down the annals of dark history as one should they fail.
However, before anything else, he would need to accompany Reginald, respond to the old man’s summons, and deliver the false core, which had been so difficult to secure, especially with Mira going berserk.
He had nearly ended up in a confrontation with Albus Verona of the Poison Cloud over it.
If not for Frozen End and Rai Hou arguing fiercely for his sake, it would’ve been a disaster. It also helped that the WAA favored him over Mira Holyfield and, though unbelievable, Albus Verona.
They asked him, however, what he intended to do with it.
Luckily, his intelligence attribute was high, allowing him to spout out some bullshit reason that had something to do with research for his advancement as a mage.
The arcane was mysterious; and so, he was let off pretty easily by the handlers, a token of gratitude for a job well done.
This, however, made Mira go eerily silent, appearing to have accepted the ownership of the false core.
Swearing to avoid the exteriorly kind yet mentally unstable priestess, Shye left, the false core in his hands.
Now, he was off to deliver it to the old man.
“Regi, let’s go.” He said to the young man sitting on the couch inside Hadean Varsa’s secret establishment in Valenzia City.
“Yes, Your Majesty!” Reginald Bodan jested, retrieving a specialized return scroll from his spatial bag and tossing it toward Shye.
Off the two went as they activated the scrolls, eerily enveloped by dark purple light that sent them straight to a metal room with an enormous magic circle on the floor, seemingly of the void and space element.
‘Phew….’ Shye took a deep breath. He was back to Hadean Varsa’s headquarters—the unpleasant faction he swore allegiance to for a hopeful tomorrow.
If given a choice, most, including him, would’ve preferred to be a side character that lived a normal life, a mere shadow to the brightest of lights.
Who the hell would volunteer to save the world if there were others who could? Certainly not him.
However, apparently, it was only he who could do so, the lone vestige of light capable of blowing away the encroaching dark.
‘Bullshit!’ he inwardly cursed.

He was no hero!
He merely wanted to live a decent and happy life, with Shirley, with his children, his grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren should his health allow him to.
Now, if he wanted all that, fiercely he would have to battle.
Arriving at the familiar room where he learned of the greatest of revelations, Shye took another deep breath, causing a metallic sound to echo the next moment as he knocked on the door with a not-so-pleasant countenance.
“Old man.” He said, compelling a sigh out of the bald elder’s mouth.
“You may enter, Shye.”
Upon receiving the old man’s confirmation, Shye entered immediately, his eyes widening in shock and anger.
It seemed that Sanada had a talent for infuriating him.
Beside the old man sat a familiar face, not human but monstrous.
It was the same bastard who had ambushed them repeatedly, the one responsible for Koneko’s death and for threatening to ruin the extermination party’s mission early on: the Voidos Nightstalker.
Shye had always wondered where it went.
Heck, he even anticipated its ambush at the final battle, ready to take its life in one swift and decisive blow.
It didn’t appear, however, even when they were claiming the true core which would result in the destruction of what Shye perceived to be its home.
As it turned out, the Horza Blaidde Mana Dungeon wasn’t the creature’s home as it was merely another intruder sent by the old man.
“YOU BASTARD!! THIS CREATURE WAS YOURS ALL ALONG?!” Shye raged in a loud voice, causing Reginald to flinch.
This was the first time he was allowed by the old man to accompany Shye when meeting him. Thus, he was quite surprised to find that the two weren’t on pleasant terms.
“Calm down, Shye, I’ll explain my actions and the reason why I needed a false core…”
