Chapter 599: False Core’s Purpose
The old man naturally knew that Shye would be angry should he reveal that the Voidos Nightstalker was his tamed monster.
However, to prevent Shye from lashing out at a critical moment, he decided it was better to face his wrath now rather than at a crucial time later.
“You better…” Shye said in a low growl, gnashing his teeth as he tossed an orb of truth over to the old man.
“AHEM!” Sanada cleared his throat in preparation. “The reason is simple yet important: to grow our monstrous creature army.”
Hearing the old man’s words, Shye’s eyes narrowed.
The arcane and the soul arts were equally mysterious and could never be fully uncovered without millenniums of research and practice.
Hence, Shye’s curiosity was piqued, and he momentarily forgot his anger, for he yearned to learn more about how Sanada planned to use the false core to grow a monster army.
“Let me get this straight. First, you sent that cursed Voidos Nightstalker to kill one of us—the lead scout, no less—then had it turn her head into a false core on the ninth floor before ordering the beast to retreat. Is that correct?”
“…Yes, that’s correct. However, I chose her because you could cover her role best with your abilities. Taking the mage or the priestess would have led to failure. The lead scout had the fourth highest intelligence and wisdom, after the three of you. It had to be her.”
Shye was naturally surprised to find that Koneko’s intellectual attributes were higher than Rai Hou’s.
‘Hmm…so she’s a crouching tiger, huh? Unfortunately, her journey was destined to end early when this bastard of an old man targeted her.’ He thought inwardly upon witnessing the orb of truth turn blue.
He was slightly terrified.
If Old Man Sanada, who was merely the leader of a terrorist group, could take a champion’s life so easily, then he could only imagine how Dweezel operated.
The man was, after all, way more despicable than the bald old man.
Oh, how much worse were the atrocities committed by the so-called greatest hero?
“I shall continue with my explanation.”
Sanada’s voice once again sounded, seizing Shye’s attention and cutting his thoughts off.
“The (S) ranked false core, once placed inside a Lord Dungeon under our control, would enable me to create an entrance barrier that restricts adventurers’ access, much like those of mana dungeons.” The old man explained, pausing slightly to observe Shye’s reaction before continuing:
“I intend to make the requirements so high that not many could attempt to enter, allowing our forces to breed and grow. Additionally, the false core would siphon mana, and with a bit of assistance from soul arts, it would harness elemental energies to produce variant species.”
Shye couldn’t deny that he was impressed at the old bastard’s knowledge in the mystical arcane and soul arts.
He could even create a hybrid of a lord and mana dungeon depending on what he needed and what would be advantageous for him.
However…
“Wouldn’t the WAA find this dungeon of yours strange?” Shye asked with a doubtful expression.
“Of course they would.” The old man replied confidently, perplexing Shye even more. “However, the Lord Dungeon is located in a region whose city lord and director swore allegiance to our faction. The enemies wouldn’t notice until it’s too late.”
Shye nodded in understanding. If it was like this, then he found the old man’s actions tolerable, inhumane, and desperate as they were.
He wouldn’t wish for their faction’s operations to fail.
Moreover, he wasn’t some pretentious bastard who would pull punches against an equally despicable, if not more adversary.
The two rotting old bastards could sink as low as they wanted, as long as their vile actions didn’t involve those close to him, and he wouldn’t bat an eye. However, he would make sure they emerged victorious, for the outcome would determine whether a bright dawn or infinite, cold darkness awaited them.
“Fine. I’ll go along with your plans, old man. I’ve been saving up points just like you told me to, and I assume you’re aware that I’ll be appointed as a hero in two weeks. Any advice on how to get the most out of it?” He asked, turning the old man’s expression into a stern one.
“Great thing you asked. Prioritize increasing your agility, dexterity, and intelligence. Raise them by fifty more points before the hero inauguration ceremony.” Sanada said, causing Shye’s brows to furrow.

“Those three attributes will become increasingly difficult to improve the more points you invest in them, in line with the real world’s training mechanics. Additionally, the system will raise the cost of those attributes once you surpass a certain threshold.”
“I’m the system’s administrator. But as I mentioned in the past, it has its limitations, and everything comes with a price you wouldn’t want to know about—at least not right now.”
Shye inwardly agreed with Sanada.
He knew that the old bastard, despite his noble intentions to correct his wrongs, was a despicable man who would do anything necessary to achieve his goals, possibly a firm believer that the ends justify the means.
If he persistently asked for the old man’s secrets now, it might simply dampen his mood or resolve upon learning of the atrocities Sanada committed.
He, too, was already deep into this.
He had no choice but to lower his moral standards for as long as Dweezel was alive and his forces aplenty.
“Fine. If there’s nothing else then I shall take my leave.” Shye said, retrieving a return scroll from the system’s inventory.
He had lots of things to do back at the guild, mostly his duties as a division leader, so he had to go back as soon as possible.
“You’re…not gonna ask where your parents are?” Sanada asked.
“Hmph! And why should I? Since they’re prioritizing the mission, I shall do the same.” Shye snorted, swiftly activating the return scroll in his hands.
‘They should be the ones looking for me. Why should I seek them out when I’ve spent the past few years doing just that, only to discover we’ve been abandoned?’
