Chapter 602: Hired Goons
Beneath the dusky skies, a nauseating crack sounded as yet another (S-) ranked corpse was destroyed by a vicious hammer blow from one of the ten adventurers.
However, this time, the Necrollin didn’t throw a short tantrum like it did earlier.
Nookie merely gazed at the humans coldly, engraving each of their faces deep into its memory, a single teardrop sliding down its left cheek.
For the more faint-hearted ones, the evolved necrollin’s actions were extremely disturbing, making their hearts pound wildly in negative anticipation of what was to come in the future.
“Everyone, stay calm! The monster is down to its last two puppets. The Ember Wyvern poses little threat, so focus on taking down the Bloodwyrm. Victory is within our reach—don’t lose your composure, and don’t rush! Stay steady and secure a slow, but certain, victory!” The leader, Abel, said.
He was the only one with nary a hint of fear in his heart, believing that dead necrollins need not be feared as they would never be able to achieve revenge from the other side of the Samsara bridge regardless of how hard it tried.
Moreover, he secretly fired a signal flare asking for the assistance of high-ranked goons he secretly hired for such a moment.
Once the mercenaries he hired arrived and secured their victory, he had a plan that would allow him to claim the lion’s share of the spoils, leaving the rest of the purge party to pick at the leftovers.
He didn’t care whether the others benefited or not—they weren’t from his guild anyway.
Besides, with his extensive connections in Roddentrodge City, no one would dare retaliate against him for what he planned to do.
This was the reason why he wasn’t scared of Nookie one bit despite its evolution.
‘Oh? Has help already arrived?’ Abel thought inwardly upon hearing multiple footsteps coming behind them, a smile gracing his ugly, scheming face.
Unfortunately for him, it indeed was reinforcements
However, for the enemy, that is; and since his crafty, conniving, and dastardly self was a mage, he stood at the back, safest amongst his peers.
This positioning backfired on him, as he was in prime position to be attacked by the corpse puppets first.
“Hahaha, wasn’t your response a bit too quick, Adan? I didn’t expect you to arrive so soon. I guess the rewards were just too tempting to resist, huh?”
were Abel’s last words as the next second, scarlet blood fountained into the air, splattering on the ground as his head rolled a few meters beneath his comrades.
“H-HIIIHH!! ABEL!!” The priest standing just a few meters away screamed in terror, utterly confused by what was happening.
Moments later, the priest turned towards the sound of approaching footsteps, nearly fainting from sheer fear and disbelief at what he saw.
Behind them were fifteen of their comrades, whom they had all seen die without a doubt.
Yet there they were, moving as if their bodies bore no wounds at all.
“C-CORPSES!!” The priest exclaimed, prompting even the warriors, who were doing their best to survive the Bloodwyrm’s attacks, to look back, momentarily losing focus.
This led to one of them being instantly killed, reduced to nothing more than dismembered flesh.
With Abel and another warrior dead, only eight members of the purge party remained. Panic set in as their hearts trembled in terror at the grim fate that seemed to await them.
Otherworldly ghosts seemed to be celebrating, beckoning them to come to the other side.
Almost instantly, they fell apart, four of them instantly ran away while the other four immediately changed targets, opting to destroy the corpses of their former comrades first.
Unfortunately, what could they do when their allies already abandoned them?
The four who dared struggle against their dark fate were easily overwhelmed by the fifteen corpses, slashed and blasted apart, quickly joining the ranks of Nookie’s puppets mere moments later.
Meanwhile, the other four darted in different directions, increasing their chances of surviving, albeit minimally.
Nookie immediately pursued one with its Ember Wyvern and Bloodwyrm puppets while sending the adventurer corpses after the others who were desperately fleeing.

If it let them get more than a kilometer and a half away, its revenge would have to wait for another day—though it would certainly hunt them down if it came to that.
The master puppeteer, however, would prefer to kill them all today, thus quickly disposing of the adventurer it was chasing with a single vicious swat from the Bloodwyrm puppet.
It then swiftly moved toward the others, its skill, [(Dark) All-Seeing Eye Lv.1(Epic)], monitoring everything within a kilometer-and-a-half radius.
Unfortunately, it seemed impossible to kill all of the adventurers today as it was inevitable that one would escape.
Hence, Nookie decided to coldly gaze upon the face of the adventurer who would escape, engraving it deep in its memory.
What the scrawny necrollin didn’t expect, however, was that two blurs would dash out from the thickets near the adventurer who was about to escape, blocking the man’s path and putting a smile on its hideous face.
“Master! It exclaimed happily.”
It seemed that it wasn’t in any danger today, after all, as its master was nearby, observing its progress.
Eager to meet its master it hadn’t seen in a long time, Nookie momentarily forgot about the destruction of its favorite puppets, quickly killing the remaining stragglers before flying over to where Shye and Zeth were.
“Master! You’re here!”
“Nookie, I apologize for not moving sooner, resulting in the destruction of your puppets. However, I wanted to see how far you can go.”
“No worries, Master! Nookie understands. Also, I thank the master for capturing the remaining one.”
It seemed that after evolving into a master puppeteer, Nookie’s mastery of the human language improved by leaps and bounds.
It now spoke like a normal human.
“No problem. I suspect that at least one of these bastards knew you’re a tamed monster, yet they still dared to hunt you down. I also wanted to teach at least one of them a lesson, so you don’t need to thank me.”
